Life is not black and white sometimes things are not easily understood. Yes we let go of the CONTROL of others and if we're wise we learn how to love them UNCONDITIONALLY If you mean we need to let go of the unconditional love then you don't understand that it's our wholeness that matters.
One of my ex-husbands was one of the most beautiful people I've ever known and when he died my love for him did not It stayed unconditional and that's how I feel about my last husband I want him happy regardless of whether I'm in his life because he's a good person too so I have unconditional love with them and have been moving on.
