  • While the weather was cold and snowy I decided to spend some time inside the shop making some snaffle bits, I had some orders for a few custom bits and made a few during this video. Hope you like it and learn a little more about how a snaffle is made.

    I have a Jeremiah Watt snaffle bit that I use, and I made a pair of spurs out of an old farrier's rasp. Maybe I'll try my hand at making a bit!

    Would you mind telling me where you get the steel balls for your mouth piece ends? I am making a few snaffles and would like to try them, thanks.

    What thickness of rod are you using for the rings, hinges, and mouthpieces?

    • @Lyonhorses
      @Lyonhorses  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pirateemily8394 I make most of mine to the customers request, but generally mouth pieces are 3/8, Rings are 5/16, and hinges are 1/2 inch.

    How do you inlay the copper?

      @@timyates9915 I use a band saw or hack saw to make a kerf or slot in the bar and tap a copper wire into the grove with a hammer.

      A snaffle bit is a type or style of bit that horses wear. The reins are attached to rings one on each side to direct the horse where to go.
