This explains a lot. I always wondered how on earth someone got 80+ words and I just about managed 50. I know some people cheat as they have that ruzzle cheat app downloaded. It tells you all the words in a grid. Those that do have no life, what's the point cheating? It ruins the fun and your own character. This however is awesome and I will apply it. Great technique. Once you get in the groove you'll find more words. Will defo give this a go.
It's possible. The more you play, the better you'll get. I've been playing for almost 2 years now and I average nearly 100 words per round and 4000 points a game compared to the 60-70 words/2000-2500 points per game I was averaging when I first started. I'm definitely not anywhere near leaderboard calibar like Dannene is, though. Keep it up and you could reach my level, if not better! My main tips: look for root words first and if possible, look for the chains(re-, er(s), ed, ing, etc and work your way from there and in rounds 2 and 3, slow down a little and work on the bonus tiles. Cheers, and you're right about improving. When I first started a few weeks back I manages 20-30 words. Now I get a bit more between 30-50. Mu highest is 66 so far. Do you know roughly how many boards there are? I've noticed sometimes I get the same boards after a while. This brings back a few memories and I find more words as I sometimes remember where the few big words are lurking.
I'm not exactly sure, but I've had a lot of repeats. The easiest one to remember is the one with "Plasterers" and "Replasters" which I've each gotten two and three times now. There's probably at least 2000 boards. There's 6 different 12 letter words that are valid and my longest is "Necessitated" which is one of the 6 valid 12 letter words. I think, but am not sure, that they are generating more words. Their minimum possible so far in a board is 251 possible words.
well, I have 35 years of musical training (including a doctorate) and musicians have faster reaction times than other people. That really helps....not to mention moving my fingers quickly to play my instrument :)

Talent + practice. I was #1 for a while with a max of 116 words back close to launch. Then people slowly got a lot better than me, while I kinda quit playing. It's a shame about the cheating.

Actually, when the first scramble with friends came out, I was pretty much winning right from the start. Probably because 1. I had been playing scrabble for many years, 2. I am a musician and response time for musicians is much faster than for non-musicians and I've been playing quickly with my fingers since 2nd grade...a long time!! lol
Yes, I'm going systematically around the board so I don't lose my place. I'm a bit ADD so sometimes I forget where I was on the board. I know most of the words I'm putting in. I do try words I'm not sure of though. I'm not perfect :)

Hi dannene. Nice work. I'm trying to get better, maybe break into the leaderboards. Question - do you always follow the same pattern around the board (focusing on one tile or grouping at a time)? Does that change in other rounds (eg. round 3 go to bonus tiles first)? From the videos it seems you mainly go for words you know, in lieu of experimenting. I think this is the most efficient strategy, but is tricky in boards with klvp type letters, or filled with vowels!! Thanks for posting :)

I see the words really quickly. I'm not putting in random words, I know each word I'm entering. Then I look for all the hooks to that word and anagrams too. Like if I see tat, I look for tate, state, estate, restate, etc. Or if I see senator, I look for atoners and treason, the anagrams.
So what does it take to get this good? I started playing probably a month or two ago, and I play quite often. I've gotten over a 100 words in a round twice but nowhere near 150+. How do you do it?
Without a dictionary penalty there's no negative to doing that. But also, she obviously has a good understanding of accepted words (probably plays other Boggle-like games).
I agree. I've been playing for about a month. I'm pretty good, not great, but it's really frustrating to play against people who are obviously cheating--not the ones who have fast brains and fingers, that's legit, but the ones who get all of the top-scoring words and only those. Pathetic. I'm considering quitting. Wish there was a way to "black-list" the cheaters.

I start in 1 corner and work my way around systematically. I look at each letter and try to find all the words I see with that letter. Sometimes I may find a common hook like "EAR" and do all the words to that combo so I don't forget it's there. Yes, I go for the bonus tile in R3 1st! There aren't tricky type letters, I'm a scrabble player. Learned vowel dumps in that game and words that use QZXJ. I'll put a link in my description above. It will help!
Wow. Your speed is amazing! Usually I can make about 100 but that's in erratic patterns. I just try to find out words and different permutations or add prefixes/suffixes. The randomness of finding one word usually makes me lose my place, so I'll try to go about fixed patterns now. Hope it helps and that I'm able to beat you someday! :D

wow amazing speed. I play ruzzle way to much but im not quite that fast. Higest word count is 166 but usually sitting around 120 to 125 a game. You made the speed of that game look easy.
TWL or OWL they call it and it is used in tournament scrabble too. I played tournament scrabble for years so that's why I like it better. I always felt the SWF dictionary was messing me up and that I'd go to a scrabble tournament and accidentally play DA or something...lol

Those aren't words in Ruzzle. Ruzzle doesn't make words up. In fact they use a standard word player's dictionary that is used in tournament scrabble play called the Official Word List or OWL published by Merriam Webster

it's not possible to guess 150 words in 2 minutes. I'd say it's about 80% knowing the words and 20% looking for typical letter patterns in the English language. Once you find one word, you can build other words off of it. You don't have to know the definition of every word you know.

I spot cheaters by looking at the top scoring words after the game. When my opponent shows they they got all top 10 to 25 scoring words in succession without any of the root words or smaller patterns in-between, I take it as a strong indication of cheating. But I could never accuse this person of cheating because she has words all across the spectrum and I doubt it's possible to get 150 words cheating unless there is some sort of bot.

He is right. You are "button mashing". You still are the fastest I have seen. If the game had any of a few simple changes, e.g. only words of a certain length or getting penalized for errors, your scores would be lukewarm. Other people can learn to be this fast or at least in the same league as you. Also, it is not your reflexes that are above average, it is your manual dexterity. Reflexes do not matter as much in this or instrument play.
I do have a screen cover (and it's not a phone, it's an ipad I'm playing on). I'm not sure what screen cover it is but I think I need a new one because there are a few spots where my kids have gotten something sticky on it that doesn't seem to come off for some reason :)
That was interesting to watch -- seems like a crazy technique rather than 'simply' sticking with certain letter groupings and not retyping the same words so many times. The other thing is, this speedy technique isn't necessarily going to win against fairly fast players who are also good at finding longer words that give bonus scores. All that said, I think this player would beat me most of the time. My high word count is 'only' 147, but most of the time I'm in the 100-110 range, going after longer words. My rating is generally around 2675 +/- 40 pts.
There's a handful of players around Dannene's level. I'm not one of those but my highest word count is 143 words and I'm currently at 2501. I could use a good challenge if you want a game. Username is Words72. I average 90-100 words a round and 4000-4500 points a game.

I found this game and the league through Dannene here who primarily played Scramble with Friends like I did before hearing about Ruzzle.
I get accused of cheating all the time so I can relate. Wow, you are damn good. I normally average anywhere from 98-101 words. I guess I have to work on my speed a bit. Do people resign from you a lot?
Thanks Jo. The "real" players have been disheartened too. We have asked them to fix it and they keep saying they are going to do something but then the hackers are still around. Like Shabazz, who is on the leaderboard. He doesn't even play any words and gets 30,000 in the last round to win. It is so lame.
I'd like to play you. I think if my phone were as good as yours I would easily be in the top 10 but unfortunately if I try to go that fast my phone freezes up and lags so the most I can usually get is 150-ish words

I would suggest playing more often so that you can get closer to Dannene's level. After a while you will have realized that you have come a long ways.

So the swipe distance, is it the total amount of distances swiped in games?

I do have a screen cover (and it's not a phone, it's an ipad I'm playing on). I'm not sure what screen cover it is but I think I need a new one because there are a few spots where my kids have gotten something sticky on it that doesn't seem to come off for some reason :)
That was interesting to watch -- seems like a crazy technique rather than 'simply' sticking with certain letter groupings and not retyping the same words so many times. The other thing is, this speedy technique isn't necessarily going to win against fairly fast players who are also good at finding longer words that give bonus scores. All that said, I think this player would beat me most of the time. My high word count is 'only' 147, but most of the time I'm in the 100-110 range, going after longer words. My rating is generally around 2675 +/- 40 pts.
There's a handful of players around Dannene's level. I'm not one of those but my highest word count is 143 words and I'm currently at 2501. I could use a good challenge if you want a game. Username is Words72. I average 90-100 words a round and 4000-4500 points a game.

Michelle Summer Haha. It's a very boring username. Did you check out the link for the Ruzzle league? I highly recommend it. I've nearly doubled my average since I first joined 2 years ago. I found this game and the league through Dannene here who primarily played Scramble with Friends like I did before hearing about Ruzzle.
I get accused of cheating all the time so I can relate. Wow, you are damn good. I normally average anywhere from 98-101 words. I guess I have to work on my speed a bit. Do people resign from you a lot?
Thanks Jo. The "real" players have been disheartened too. We have asked them to fix it and they keep saying they are going to do something but then the hackers are still around. Like Shabazz, who is on the leaderboard. He doesn't even play any words and gets 30,000 in the last round to win. It is so lame.

He's kinda right, there is no strategy youre just following a sequence of letters and vowels, which is cool but its not really playing the game right
I'm just seeing words I know. I don't randomly put in anything. I may try words I'm not sure of but I'm actually doing it very methodically.

I'd like to play you. I think if my phone were as good as yours I would easily be in the top 10 but unfortunately if I try to go that fast my phone freezes up and lags so the most I can usually get is 150-ish words
over 50% of the words by the end, good lord you seriously know how to milk this game
