  • Test, review of the PARKSIDE POF 1200 D3 top milling machine - What is the reality?
This PARKSIDE POF 1200 D3 top milling machine including accessories is housed in a cardboard box, so don't expect a more durable plastic case.
The box contains a detailed and well-done instruction manual, and we also appreciate the easy-to-follow drawings always on the first and last pages in the manual tabs.
Of course, the use of protective equipment such as gloves, goggles and also earmuffs should be a matter of course for safety reasons, even though the top milling machine exhibits rather lower noise levels.
The 1200W top milling machine itself has a really long cable of 4m. Its weight is just over 2.5kg and handling is relatively simple. The ergonomic light rubberised handles, sit well in the hand and switching the top cutter on and off with the control button and safety lock is very easy.
The included dust extraction adapter is handy as without it you have dust and sawdust lying around. However, the quality of the plastic used is not high .
Speed control is possible on the top milling machine by means of the control wheel from setting 1 to 7. At this setting, the milling machine reaches 11,000 to 30,000 rpm.
The upper milling machine has a stroke of approx. 5.5 cm, but the maximum milling depth is considerably less because it is limited by the length of the interchangeable cutters.
Thanks to the two types of clamping pliers in the basic package, you can easily use cutters with a diameter of 6 or 8mm.
Also included is a handy plastic box which contains 6pcs of 8mm diameter basic cutters. These cutters are quite good quality compared to the price and do the job very well. If these cutters are not enough for you, you can simply purchase the cost effective pack which contains 12pcs of 8mm cutters.
Changing the cutters itself is quite simple and can be done by anyone. The important rule is to always have the upper cutter disconnected from the power supply when changing cutters. Then simply loosen the clamping nut, insert a suitable cutter approximately to the depth marked with a mark on each cutter and tighten the clamping nut slightly. Then hold the locking button and tighten the clamping nut with the supplied spanner.
You will use the depth stop with a scale in millimetres to adjust the depth of milling, as well as the rotary adjuster, which allows fine adjustments in the order of tenths of a millimetre. A stepped stop in the range of 0 to 25mm, with increments of 5 millimetres, is also a handy feature for adjusting depth.
When milling, you will often use a parallel plastic guide, which is also adjustable to tenths of a millimetre, but has play, is not completely accurate and is not secured well. The parallel guide, however, allows another excellent function, namely that after fitting the centring tip you can mill in a circle very easily.
For milling without the parallel guide, you can also use the copy sleeve with a circular ring.
The overall quality and speed of milling is very good compared to the price of the top milling machine and the milling machine will not disappoint you in hobby use.
It's also important to note that Parkside offers a superior 3-year warranty on its tools, and that's certainly something not every manufacturer can boast
