This is absolutely gem of tennis lesson. To the point with the most understandable demonstrations. A must watch to those who are learning to play tennis.
Agreed! When you watch the pros they are usually moving into the ball. Watching any practice video you can see this. I also see all professional players using split steps in between shots as the ball comes off the opponents racket. You may want to comment on this. It takes more energy, but infinitely helps in preparation and moving into the ball in my opinion.
If only I could give you two, yes two, thumbs up!! I just hit with my wife today, and I tried to rely the concept of weight transfer to her. She turns but doesn't uncoil. I'm gonna try to get her to watch this video. tks.
Great course it's obvious the power comes from the waist in the step in shot we the hips rotate more around. Let us know when you are in Toronto canada to give some lessons. Cheers.
Master Thomas, your videos are great, congratulations! About this one, to transfer weight of the body, is it useful and simpler to flex and bend legs and (little) bounce on them when opening and before moving to the ball? In my experience, in this manner it's automatic to move not only the arm but also rotating the trunk.. Is it correct?
I have noticed in the pro tennis players that the weight transfer it's toward the side of your body from right to left in a rotational movement and very often they lift the right foot and spin with the torso as an axis of spin, all the body turn toward the ball.
This video is excellent. The triangle movement is very much like the poach movement when you go from the center of the service box on an angel to the net. Cool. Thanks.
There are so many great instructions in your videos, but how can we remember to implement them all. Is there an order we should do them in, week by week?
I am impressed by each of your videos. You are brilliant. Will you please share you idea about weight transfer with respect to different rackets? I noticed you are using BLX five which is heavy on the head side. Are heavier rackets or rackets with heavier heads create more power? if so, what is the the drawback?
meltal noma In terms of body weight transfer, there is no difference in what racquet you use, it's all the same. Heavy head racquets just give you more swinging feel. I feel it like momentum that I want to accelerate. The downside is that they are harder to maneuver in tough situations but my racquet is very light actually (264 grams) and that's no problem either. The only real problem is hitting a fast incoming ball because it's simply not stable enough but I rarely receive those. ;)
This is an excellent video. However i would like to ask you how Federer uses his weight transfer. As i can see from various videos, Rogerer uses the neutral stance in the most of the cases, especially during forehand process. Does he create a powerful stroke by using his core and rotating his body leaving his hand following or he just moves towards the ball in the same way as you describe in the very beginning of this video?
Great info.... majority of the courts I play here are clay. Still practicing the slide on clay. But how in the heck does Monfils slide so good on the hard courts....
Hi Tomaz, would you say that using weight transfer is a foundation for learning to hit the ball earlier ? By hitting earlier, I mean timing the hit closer off the bounce, when the ball is near rising or at the top of the bounce, rather than when it has started to drop. I have a problem of hitting the ball late, so I want to learn to hit earlier. But I'm at a loss of finding what causes effective early hitting of the ball. You're a master at correctly identifying causes and effect in tennis, so I am eager to hear from you on this. Thank you and more power!
Henry N Weight transfer might help you but it has nothing to do whether you hit the ball on the rise, on top or when it's dropping. You only want to move your weight forward as you're making contact, but again, this might be a trick that works for you. Take a look at drills I did with Shaheed when we worked on hitting the ball earlier: th-cam.com/video/MO01CaN6lFc/w-d-xo.html
efortless power dont exist, wat is the case is to use legs power and torso instead of arms power which will make u feel better because they are more energy stored in those than in the arms but the effort will be there anwyay.
Best instructor. Period. Most tennis coaches focus so much on arm acceleration but forget that power is from big muscles
This is absolutely gem of tennis lesson. To the point with the most understandable demonstrations. A must watch to those who are learning to play tennis.
Very much appreciated!
Very good!
Finally someone talks about this! Coaches, all they talk about is the arms and the followthrough
The Triangle tip was priceless! Thank you.
Thanks so much, this is the best video for weight transfer and the Triangle movement is priceless.

excellent connecting arms and body improve the tennis a lot and a necessary step to get an upper level
I really like the way you explain. Thanks a lot for the video.
Great! In Gongfu, we call it hit from the spine or foot.
Brilliant tutorial, Thomas - thank you very much !

Thank you for teaching me to use my core. I have forgotten that principle for a long time.
Thank you Thomas! Your Video is a game changer for me. Again thank you so much!!!

Thanks coach. Perfect suggestions, as always!
First: great video
Second: what would you recommend for the open stance weight transfer if a player is like "over turning" with his hips ?
Another gem....thx coach !!
Wow great video! Very articulate instructions.
Very interesting lesson. Thanks
MUY BUENO TOMÁS!! SIMPLE, COMPLETO Y CLARO...

Excellent video, coach. Thank you!
Thanks for the lesson on weight transfer.
Please come to NYC! We need you here.

Another amazing video. Thank you!
Very down to earth explanations. Thanks.
very well explained. It all make sense. Thanks
Should we tensed core muscles while hitting the ball?
Great job Coach!
Excellent stuff

Thank you !! You are good science sport teacher..

thanks for the knowledge
Congratulations....very didatic video !
Triangle movement is gold!
So underestimated yet so important, always about swing which is wrong. Encourage more body and less swing, less can go wrong under pressure. 👍
Good lessons
Seems like I have to learn those two ways to hit the ball depending on whay kind of shot I'm presented with.
Remarkable ! Thanks
Great video !!
Great Tomas!
Excellent as ever - thanks:)
Good point
Thanks so much
Top vid as usual
It' s really hard for former table tennis player to use first the body before the arm or wirst!
Good
When I do weight transfer, in my mind, I think, "step in" and that way I am stepping into the ball as I hit it.
Interesting
And shoulder
Emphasizing weight transfer rather than balance and rotation causes most beginners to be off balance and lose timing
sweet tennis court, facility. looks like a skyscraper with clay courts
efortless power dont exist, wat is the case is to use legs power and torso instead of arms power which will make u feel better because they are more energy stored in those than in the arms but the effort will be there anwyay.
If you dont transfer wieght your arm will suffer
that's not weight transfer, that is called body rotation.
Yeah he discusses both
$$
Oh my god this was very very helpful, thanks!!
thank you!
