Direct-copy covers, I tend to agree with you. There's plenty of covers out there, though, where the band makes it their own, including this one. Half the popular songs out there are actually remixes of much less well-done versions.
You know, covers are a way of a band showing their admiration and love of a certain band or song. Like Disturbed's Land of Confusion. That's a badass version of a song by Genesis that I wouldn't otherwise care for. It's not a bad thing to make a cover of a song. Aslong as, like Bryce said, they make it their own. Which this band does. I was really taken aback at how good this was. And it's because of my love of Maiden that I even found this, so covers also help pull in an audience they normally wouldn't have. And in turn, Van Canto fans have the opportunity to come across Maiden if they haven't heard of them alreadh
Well, i'm having a hard time coming up with a mainstream metal band that DIDNT do a cover at some point. I hope you realize there was an entire album released recently to support a cancer research foundation in the name of Dio. So I guess you just hate cancer by extension right?
Doing a cover needn´t necessarily be perceived as using other artists work to gain stardom. It may also be seen as recognition, respect and tribute to those artists. By using their songs the coverers inherently acknowledge them :)

This is the best maiden cover I have ever heard. This band is one of the best power metal bands I've heard.
