Love Liz!! So connect with her, especially that I 'save' old gowns, lol. Goodwill Restore sells them for $1.99 a pound and I need to stop buying and make something!! New subscriber, Florida.
I was at a goodwill yesterday in North Florida and their wedding dresses were $30. And they were freaking AMAZING! The amount of gorgeousness to cut off the dresses was in sane. I think I’ll go back and get one.
I so appreciate the time you took to make this video. I love to "save" vintage dresses also and create beauty of some sort with each and every gown I'm able to find or for the most part I love to redesign and update vintage gowns with additional beading. Your video has been helpful and I hope you continue to share your ideas and your creativity. This video is very helpful and I thank you!
Thank you for making this series. I just got my hands on a wedding dress for 5 dollars. I'm so excited. This dress has appliqués ok the way down the back of the dress and train on both sides. Going to watch the rest of the videos. Thank you so much.
Hi Liz! I just purchased my first thrift store wedding gown! I'm soooooo excited!! I will be watching these 4 videos over and over! It's quite busy around here right now with Christmas just around the corner! I probably won't get a chance to play with it til after Christmas break. I thank you for your teachings and your patience in explaining how to take apart a wedding gown. I love watching your videos. You are so nice, its like visiting and talking with a good friend! Thanks again for this series. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! So excited to see what you have in mind for channel in the new year! Hugs, Bev.
+Gracist2 Merry Christmas to you. Thank you for all your kind encouraging words. You will find I began the new year slowly. I have surgery scheduled the first week, recovery 4-6 weeks. I plan to design a few things I can use in my own home for the coming year.

Liz Benavides Oh my goodness! I didn't know you were having surgery! I will certainly keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. Can't wait to see your designs for your home! I hope it's shabby chic!! Take care, hugs Bev.
Hi, I am in the UK and wedding dresses here are usually too expensive in the charity shops to buy. However my local Hospice shop is selling them at £10. I am so excited - will watch your tutorial. Pauline.
I am so super glad I found your channel, this is so informative and I really appreciate all of the information, especially since I just purchased my first wedding dress to craft with. Thanks so much ☺
+Ciara Mcinerny , Thank You, I have recorded the bodice portion but have not edited it. I am using comments and views to help me determine what order I release videos. I have decided that once all the wedding dress videos reach 50 + views I will get to editing and post it. Please share the tutorial.
Liz, today I scored a wedding dress for $10! I appreciate you taking the time to teach us how to take it apart. I have shared this video in my group explaining why I need this information. I hope to also learn from you different ways to use these appliques. Most videos I have found so far are destash videos!!! Maybe others also struggle with how to utilize these beautiful pieces then just sell them off. I will find ways to use! And very excited to get started!
Can you do a video on detactching a tulle skirt from a bodice. I absolutely hate my wedding dress bodice. It's like a costume and I can't move my arms, so now I'm rushing to remove my bodice but keep my skirt.
Oh thank you for this!!!! I have been looking and looking for a tutorial like this and yours is the only one I've found so far! I can't wait to watch all of these and learn how to do this!!! Hugs 😘
+Kelly Weiskopf You are welcome. I am glad, I am pretty detailed because I learned a lot when I tried it. Have fun. I also have videos and tutorials where I use the fabrics.
Thank you for sharing these tutorials...I have my wedding dress from my 1st marriage (1972) yep old!!! No it's not near as Lacey and beautiful as the ones you have, but it does have some., I've been contemplating as to what I want to do with it for a loooong time. My daughter didn't want to use it for her wedding of course. I kept thinking my granddaughters might want to, but they have no interest in wearing it either. Which is just fine, but I want to make "Something" as keepsakes for them. Some day they just might appreciate it, like at there weddings. As something old!!! Anyhooo, I love making mixed media things, so thinking one of my keepsake/time capsules boxes might be a way to add bits of the dress. And with your tutorials of deconstruction I think I could do it. So again TFS... God Bless
+Crafty Devotion “Crafty Devotion” Liz Benavides thank you for your response, I'll try and share with you whenever I get them made, probably later in the year. I've never shared anything on TH-cam either...
You know the ring barrer pillow would of been beautiful from your wonderful wedding dress. Or the garter. Or you could make a regular pillow for the bedroom if you have a Victorian or lacy guest room or your own bedroom.
I found a prom dress that’s the shape I want for my wedding dress I’m just adding more to it! I need to deconstruct so I can add layers of tulle to the satin
Hi, If you are replacing it unless you have experience. I would take it to a seamstress. To alter something is much more skill than cutting it apart for crafting purposes.
I'm thinking of turning my wedding dress into a quilt so this video was very helpful. I was wondering if I could save time removing the lining if I used a rotary cutter and mat instead of scissors. Has anyone tried this? Thanks again for this video.
Hey liz, wow wish i had seen this before i got my wedding dressed deconstruction . I bought the, weddung dresses from thrift stores though.. you can also get them from garage sales too. I have big plastic containers that hold one drawer of the appliques one of satin on of tulle. I will be using them for my jackets or refashioned items. Oh what editing programs do you use? People have been asking me to actually show the before and after pictures and also while i am sewing so it is not too long or boring. Thank you so very much. I was babysitting my grand daughter and the nap is the only time to do things like this. Just remember to put those scissors up so they don't........ help?!?!?👀👀👀👀👀
Hi, thank you for watching and appreciating my editing effort. I have learned that editing is also a craft. I use the free version of windows movie maker.
Hi Liz My name is Jan - R. Elstad and I am from Norway. I have been watshing your tutorial and finding it very interresting. I happen to own Norways largest privately owned cultural historical collection of weddingdresses. The oldest one from the year 1877. I have about 378 various dresses, and dresses made from parachutesilk from worldwar two too. I, among other tings, watshed you rip the skirt of the weddingdress with a mix of dread and joy. Dread because of the gorgeous weddingdress beeing ripped. And joy because of you finding use of the dress, the lace and appliques, in this Shabby Chic kind of way. In a kind of way I liked the sight and sound of the satin and nylon fabric beeing ripped. Still - as a serious collector at first I felt terrible about it.
Would it be possible for you to have the weddingdress up on a manequin when you are cutting it up? To show where and when on the skirt and train you are cutting / ripping? Was hoping that one could get a better idea not only where, but also how big peases of fabric, and how many of them you get, both from the satin and the linning? The reason beeing the grainline / tearline in the fabric of the dress and how the skirt and train is sewn.
+Jan-roger Elstad I can imagine your mixed emotions. Maybe not to your degree but I do battle the same thing. With the dresses as well as with doilies and vintage linens. I also cringe when some vintage furniture is shabby chic. Do you have a link I can follow for photos of your dresses?
+Jan-roger Elstad , I have been considering added another part to this series including tips and tricks. I just need more time. Haha I am still in recovery from surgery, am raising an adorable rambunctious 3 year old in my 50's, running a small business along side my love of designing. Therefore I may take a while before I can do that.
I am sorry to say that i do not have such a link. But if you could concider beeing a friend of mine on Facebook, I can send you a couple of photos. I can also try to forward them to you on E-mail, since I want your opinion of the dresses only.
Hi Frankie, when I first began crafting I used a wedding dress and my suscribers suggested a deconstruction video. This series has a slow and steady growth of greatful new crafty friends who are encouraged to upcycle a vintage dress. Seems I found another kindred friend. Welcome.
Crafty Devotion Liz Benavides I am wanting to start doing video's as well showing my Work as a Recycle Artist. I just don't have the setup to do that just yet. Working on that!
I am staying very simple. I use my old cell phone because I am of the sort that doesn't update all the time. Currently i have a Samsung Note 4. I use free editing software, Windows movie maker. I have purchased umbrella and something to hold my phone for me. I focus on my hands for more than one reason. I don't need to be in front of a camera and I only need to clean my table area. Haha Messy Crafter. If you want link s to what I use let me know.
+debra vanzant. Yes, I think I explain that in one of the tutorials. Each dress may have various ways that you need to cut them out. Sometimes no layers other times leave te layers especially the bodices it needs to stay or you will lose beads.
I wish I'd seen this before I deconstructed 2 wedding dresses. I found the sequins and beads had been sewn after and they sent from 1 applique to the others haha beads and sequins were going all over
+christmasfemano. Thank you. This was one of my first tutorials. I noticed I have pronounced tulle incorrectly for quite awhile haha. I shared pretty much what I learned after deconstruction of two dresses. I am glad you enjoy this series.
OMGdness! I'm sitting her deconstructing a wedding dress. :) See what you started. LOL This one doesn't have any bling, but it has these sweet 1 to 1 1/2 " flowers all over it...SCORE!
I am. I've bought three dresses so far. The first one I paid 20 dollars for, no bling just these tiny individual flowers all over it. The second one one was purchased withe the first for 65 dollars. Had being through sequins and seed beads, I ended up having to let a lot of the seed beads go as they were sewn on last and through 4 layers of fabric...made it difficult to deconstruct. The last one I found was on sale 50% off and also found some ribbons etc for a total of 27 dollars. I think im hooked. LOL I'm on the lookout for that perfect applique dress that doesn't cost 65 dollars :)
+debra vanzant. Hooked, I am glad. Haha. Glad your having fun. For the beaded applique try a cold glue brush it on with a brush let dry and cut. I also leave the layers on and cut around it leaving the white background.
Love Liz!! So connect with her, especially that I 'save' old gowns, lol. Goodwill Restore sells them for $1.99 a pound and I need to stop buying and make something!! New subscriber, Florida.

Making a quilt with a few wedding dresses, found this very helpful! Thank you for sharing ♡
+Lisa Capen Quilts. So glad, sounds beautiful.
Do you have a photo of the quilt? It must be finished. It's been 5 years.
That is a very beautiful dress. You sure know what your doing. Your awesome
Thanks so much 😊

Thank you for making this series. I just got my hands on a wedding dress for 5 dollars. I'm so excited. This dress has appliqués ok the way down the back of the dress and train on both sides. Going to watch the rest of the videos. Thank you so much.

+Kiki Dodson how exciting. I have used them in ornaments, wreath, totebag. Just scan my channel you will find either a project share or diy.
Would you use a seem ripper in some projects to save more of the fabric?
Yes. Definitely. It depends what you plan to do with it. I have a few dresses I want to keep the skirt intact and will do so.
Can you do a video on detactching a tulle skirt from a bodice.
I absolutely hate my wedding dress bodice. It's like a costume and I can't move my arms, so now I'm rushing to remove my bodice but keep my skirt.
I would unsew it. Usually the skirt is first gathered then attached to the bodice.
Oh thank you for this!!!! I have been looking and looking for a tutorial like this and yours is the only one I've found so far! I can't wait to watch all of these and learn how to do this!!! Hugs 😘

In your case you may wish to take the time to use a seam ripper at the seams instead of cutting it for crafts.
I’m trying to take the skirt off of my wedding gown and replace it with satin. Should I do it myself or go to a seamstress
Hi,
If you are replacing it unless you have experience. I would take it to a seamstress.
To alter something is much more skill than cutting it apart for crafting purposes.
Crafty Devotion Liz Benavides is there a way I could email you a picture of the dress and show you what I mean?

+katlady5000 hi, It is possible but might be bulky. You would need enough space. Those skirts are usually very full.
Very informative video tfs hugs Nita

Haha, your not alone that is how I learned, by doing. Keep crafting and experimenting.
This is my exact dress can't find the applique or the right place to cut in , as it's too big now. Sigh!!
Make sure you watch the bodice video so you don't loose too many beads.
got one for 15 was not on sale ;) love the dresses
