Basically he wants to say "thank you" to us, that he is happy that we are here & that he thinks that no one of us can imagine, how important it is to them, that we are always there, that they can share their music with us & that we make it possible to them to be on stage every evening. Then he says that they want to give us back some of the noise we make for them, even though they are not as many people as we are. This is why they clap their hands then (:
