Liked my previous Umidigi F1 which I've since sold. Broke my Galaxy A51's screen accidentally and was debating about replacing vs just selling it and buying the S5 Pro. The deciding factor AGAINST purchasing the S5 Pro was lack of updates. With the F1, I received about 9 months of updates, mostly bug fixes and a single security patch. They never upgrade OS versions, so if you like staying on Android 10, it's a good value. Personally, I need at least quarterly security updates.

Would this Umidigi S5 Pro be a cheaper alternative to the Xiaomi Mi 9t entry model? Amoled screen, Pop Up camera and 6 GB of Ram in both, Helio G90T vs Snapdragon 730, 256 Gb of storage against the 64 Gb of the Mi 9t, I want to see about the cameras.
Not sure about the cheap part. I can't seem to find a consistent price on it. Looks like a good alternative to me though. Not sure if it'll have cameras as good, or some of the extra features.

Umidigi's camera quality/performance has always made me shy away from their offerings so curious how the S5 Pro stacks up here. Rest of the specs appear acceptable, even OK with its plastic build. Looking forward to your full review on this one Kevin.
Use opencamera. Makes a world of difference. Also if you want video stabilisation, download hedgecam and enable camera 2 API. EIS on front and rear cameras... Even with 4k footage. Very nice indeed.
I like where Umidigi is heading...this is a major step up from their previous devices. I hope they'll keep this device updated & optimized; that may improve the speed/responsiveness of the FP reader. Does it have stereo speakers?

Definetely get a Mi 9T instead. Cheaper, Headphone jack and smaller bezels plus a great update schedule. Plus, since it's snapdragon, you get Qualcomm quickcharge and ability to download gcam.
Got it two days ago.... having serious issues with the built-in speaker... Too loud and distorted... I have tried everything but still sucks!! I can't use the speaker phone...watch TH-cam or anything... May have to return it...
Hey Kevin it was because of your preview of the Umidigi Power 3 late last year that I chose to purchase that particular phone, you did get me excited about it. So I purchased it during Black Friday sale from of AliExpress, waited 2 mths, finally got it at the end of Jan 2020. Now by Jun 2, 2020 the phone has completely " bricked" for no apparent reason, no response whatsoever from pressing the power button or no charging bubbles showing on the screen while charging. Dead as a doorpost. Is there any advice you can give me as to what I should do? Please, please answer. Please don't ignore me on this ... thanks.
As a well known customer of umidigi phones, can you request to the company to factory install cam2api in their phones, i would buy one if cam2api is installed for us
Looks really good and as good as any current mid-range phone out there. Not having a headphone jack and especially 4K video recording may be an issue for some. I feel like Umidigi is really stepping their game up.
@lasest2 I'm on the MI 9T right now. Was looking to buy it before the Poco F2 Pro was released. It is too similar to the MI 9T for me to buy now. I was actually hoping for a larger screen. Not many full screen displays being made anymore, so I'd never rule out buying it.

I just hope the speakerphone and sound through bluetooth connected speakers work well on this phone. I have had some Umidigi phones in the past and bluetooth sound was horrible.

I love that they're trying to make good phones but I have not had good experiences with software/support - as in it was non existent. On their website they made it like appear that they do have support, does anyone know if this has improved over the last couple of years?
I swear I have asked over multiple sites and nobody has an answer. What about updates? I heard that they will do some updates for bugs and that is it. What about security updates. Does Umidigi have a "sell it and forget it” mentality?

You can from other videos... Stabilisation is not very good with this phone compared to Xiaomi. If that pisses you off, don't buy this phone. Actually for this price... I am not that disappointed, I prefer using a gimbal to get really smooth shots.
The camera is excellent. Very clear pictures. My Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G takes very clear pictures. I like to take the same pictures with both phones to compare and I can say, the Umidigi S5 Pro's camera is excellent. Most times the photos are just as clear as the Note 5 and the vivid colors stand out. I tested video quality and it's good but sound quality is low. Although my videos are very clear, I don't usually take videos so I'm not an expert at settings or video comparison. I don't know the video language but there was some "shakiness" or "jumpiness" in the videos on certain settings.
im staying away from Umidigi. i mean I had good use out of 2 of mine but both got cracked to hell , I cannot find a proper case such as otterbox or supcase

Umidigi Phones always have good hardware, but software support is horrible. After a few months there won't be any software updates, because they are only focused on their next flasgship then. I know that because I already had an Umidigi S2 Pro and S3 Pro. Latest security patch update for S3 Pro (released late January 2019): March 2019

No it is not. No software updates, kinda slow fingerprint sensor, Photos good but not as good as the Mi9t. No really after sale services... If it is no deal breaker for you you can buy it because it is not a bad phone after all that. I was considering the Mi9t but it is well overpriced here. I definitely would like to add a bit of small advise to the phone tubers, can you guys maybe let us know if the phones are LTE or LTE-A phones. I find that to be somewhat important considering a dramatic change in download speeds in the two. Also if they do or don't come with MIMO. My OnePlus 5 vs my Umidigi Power 3 is no contest in download speeds and if reviewing them i know something like that would not be mentioned and think it's important. Example, the LG G6 is LTE-A.. Much faster download speeds compared to anything else that isn't especially in your video of your picks of phones you'd suggest. I believe it was the only one with LTE-A. Bought it for the wife actually, mint condition $85. Awful battery life and UI but those can be fixed. How I wish it was AMOLED though. Anyways just saying is all. I know I like knowing these things.
This plus the Razer Kishi (if it ever comes out...) makes an interesting high end android gaming and emulation option, with the full display with no notch, G90T with liquid cooling, and big battery. Kinda makes me want to buy one just to stick in the controller case and not actually use it as a phone...
Some say so, others no... We kinda get lost. Those that say so say it's not working freaking crazy with 4k on. It kinda stutters on the screen... I may be able to tell you in a few days. I should be buying it
Well they pretty much offer all of the US LTE bands that the others, minus Oneplus, seems to forget. Some of their phones have even worked on CDMA Verizon.
I can't decide between the S5 Pro or the F2 the big thing that kills the s5 pro for me is the in-screen fingerprint scanner but Helio G90T is a lot better
I've got both. The F2 is good, but the S5 Pro is VASTLY superior due to the amoled screen, superior processor and 256 gb storage. I also have a 256 SD card in the S5 pro (£27 GBP from Amazon) making a total of half a terrabyte of storage. Also the finger print reader on the F2 can be a bit hit and miss.
Oh and buy the Ocean Blue one. (actually more green than blue) it's absolutely stunning.Bought mine from Umidigi Shop on Ebay. Came in 3 days from Germany to UK. Cheaper from China, but ages to wait for delivery.

I don't know what proportion of people who keep their phones for so long. Unfortunately the shopping therapy exists for many people. I have never kept a phone for that long... I mean using it... It would either get broken or lost. But one year or one year and a half is not much. Don't expect to make money selling your Umidigi. Here in France I don't think so.
This could be the sleeper cheap phone of the year. The ONLY thing holding it back is a locked bootloader (mediatek enforced, not umidigi) Custom rom development would make this a hit for sure.
The Battery is not charging as it used to before UMIGI pushed latest updates last month. Plugged the phone to charge overnight, but it was never fully charged unless you put it on airplane mode. Getting support from UMIGI is a joke.
Heres what you dont get from umidigi. Support. Like their previous phones it will get one or two firmware updates. Camera will be mediocre and not optimized at all and any issues will not be fixed. Just read comments from owners of previous phones. I do not recommend umidigi. I got the s3 pro that got three updates and F2 that got three updates as well and still it has mic and speaker and fingerprint issues that are not and likely won't be fixed.

I have found ways to get better photos and videos, EIS on both front and rear cams... All kinds of things. Steady OS updates from Umidigi also.
The problem with Umidigi is that they don't support their products. If you can't read Chinese don't even think about contacting them. The S5 pro could be the best value in a phone but with no support it is not a good buy.
What is the deal with all these umidigi phones that do not FAST CHARGE unless using the original charger that came with phone. So if u loose the charger u have to stick to regular slow charging , and these batteries are huge , not fun. All the Qualcomm 3.0 chargers 18w are not FAST CHARGING this device. And nobody is speaking on this , been dealing with this since the F1.
On official site there is information about 4-Sided 3D Curved Glass Back. However Kevin is not the only person who claim that back is plastic. You can see some comments (also on aliexpress) that people has plastic back. However I asked on another youtube channel La cueva del lagarto and he confirmed that model he reviewed has glass back. So I hope this will be not lottery and Umidigi are not sending different covers.

Xiaomi has alot better software features . And is a better phone by far . Snapdragon 730 is a pretty good processor . Get the the mi 9t

I have the F2 and I've dropped it many times with the case it came with, no cracks or problems so far. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I definitely would like to add a bit of small advise to the phone tubers, can you guys maybe let us know if the phones are LTE or LTE-A phones. I find that to be somewhat important considering a dramatic change in download speeds in the two. Also if they do or don't come with MIMO. My OnePlus 5 vs my Umidigi Power 3 is no contest in download speeds and if reviewing them i know something like that would not be mentioned and think it's important. Example, the LG G6 is LTE-A.. Much faster download speeds compared to anything else that isn't especially in your video of your picks of phones you'd suggest. I believe it was the only one with LTE-A. Bought it for the wife actually, mint condition $85. Awful battery life and UI but those can be fixed. How I wish it was AMOLED though. Anyways just saying is all. I know I like knowing these things.
It has a pretty decent processor. It's faster than 5he 730g so pretty good

This plus the Razer Kishi (if it ever comes out...) makes an interesting high end android gaming and emulation option, with the full display with no notch, G90T with liquid cooling, and big battery. Kinda makes me want to buy one just to stick in the controller case and not actually use it as a phone...

Well they pretty much offer all of the US LTE bands that the others, minus Oneplus, seems to forget. Some of their phones have even worked on CDMA Verizon.

I can't decide between the S5 Pro or the F2 the big thing that kills the s5 pro for me is the in-screen fingerprint scanner but Helio G90T is a lot better
I've got both. The F2 is good, but the S5 Pro is VASTLY superior due to the amoled screen, superior processor and 256 gb storage. I also have a 256 SD card in the S5 pro (£27 GBP from Amazon) making a total of half a terrabyte of storage. Also the finger print reader on the F2 can be a bit hit and miss.
Oh and buy the Ocean Blue one. (actually more green than blue) it's absolutely stunning.Bought mine from Umidigi Shop on Ebay. Came in 3 days from Germany to UK. Cheaper from China, but ages to wait for delivery.
"you have the phone for a year or a year and a half", why do i have a yearly subscription for buying phones every year? Mine is the 1st Samsung A5, it works perfectly and I've got it for 5 years now.So what's the point of buying a new one? Shopping therapy?
I don't know what proportion of people who keep their phones for so long. Unfortunately the shopping therapy exists for many people. I have never kept a phone for that long... I mean using it... It would either get broken or lost.
But one year or one year and a half is not much. Don't expect to make money selling your Umidigi. Here in France I don't think so.

The ONLY thing holding it back is a locked bootloader (mediatek enforced, not umidigi)

The Battery is not charging as it used to before UMIGI pushed latest updates last month. Plugged the phone to charge overnight, but it was never fully charged unless you put it on airplane mode. Getting support from UMIGI is a joke.
Heres what you dont get from umidigi. Support. Like their previous phones it will get one or two firmware updates. Camera will be mediocre and not optimized at all and any issues will not be fixed. Just read comments from owners of previous phones. I do not recommend umidigi. I got the s3 pro that got three updates and F2 that got three updates as well and still it has mic and speaker and fingerprint issues that are not and likely won't be fixed.

@@asherstark4561 I am of the opinion Umidigi are going to develop a big following and their price to features will be the real selling point. I have the F2 and it just keeps getting better. I have found ways to get better photos and videos, EIS on both front and rear cams... All kinds of things. Steady OS updates from Umidigi also.

The problem with Umidigi is that they don't support their products. If you can't read Chinese don't even think about contacting them. The S5 pro could be the best value in a phone but with no support it is not a good buy.
What is the deal with all these umidigi phones that do not FAST CHARGE unless using the original charger that came with phone. So if u loose the charger u have to stick to regular slow charging , and these batteries are huge , not fun. All the Qualcomm 3.0 chargers 18w are not FAST CHARGING this device. And nobody is speaking on this , been dealing with this since the F1.

On official site there is information about 4-Sided 3D Curved Glass Back. However Kevin is not the only person who claim that back is plastic. You can see some comments (also on aliexpress) that people has plastic back. However I asked on another youtube channel
La cueva del lagarto and he confirmed that model he reviewed has glass back. So I hope this will be not lottery and Umidigi are not sending different covers.
