Here’s the thing that gets me riled up about the Broad Street Line: I’m pretty sure the stations can accommodate like 8 or 10 cars, but they don’t have the ridership to justify running trains of that size. Outside of increased security on the trains and in stations, I wonder what major extension would increase ridership, and already has most of the infrastructure along the right-of-way built🤔
BSL cars are 67ft 6in long. A 5 car consist is ideal enough to fit into all the mainline stops. A 6 or 7 car consist would reduce frequency and honestly it's not enough ridership or enough cars for that. However things may change once the Roosevelt Blvd Subway gets built. That would be a much needed Northeastern subway extension in over 50 years and that subway would definitely ease the heavy traffic flow on the Blvd. Last extension was in 1973 further into South Philly.
