Music is at the heart of Indian culture. From birth to death, all occasions, sacred and secular, personal and tribal, in the life of the Plains Indian are inextricably intertwined with musical performances. Native American music is the music that is used, created or performed by Native Americans in the United States and First Nations people of Canada, specifically traditional tribal music. In addition to the traditional music of the Native American groups, there now exist pan-tribal and inter-tribal genres as well as distinct Native American subgenres of popular music including: rock, blues, hip hop, classical, film music, and reggae, as well as unique popular styles like waila ("chicken scratch").
Singing and percussion are the most important aspects of traditional Native American music. Vocalization takes many forms, ranging from solo and choral song to responsorial, unison and multipart singing. Percussion, especially drums and rattles, are common accompaniment to keep the rhythm steady for the singers, who generally use their native language or non-lexical vocables (nonsense syllables). Traditional music usually begins with slow and steady beats that grow gradually faster and more emphatic, while various flourishes like drum and rattle tremolos, shouts and accented patterns add variety and signal changes in performance for singers and dancers.
I'm not Native American,i'm from Australia but I decided to look up Native American music on TH-cam because i've had a fascination for Native American culture for a while now, I think it's beautiful how devoted they are to their people as well as see the beauty in nature,the love & respect they have for animals & the planet etc is inspiring. If the rest of society had the same outlook and viewed the world in the same perspective as the Native Americans this planet would be a much better place. Also I find Native American music to be very relaxing & soothing as well,I would rather listen to this than a lot of the mainstream garbage we hear on the radio etc now a days. I am just saying but I appreciate the Native American culture etc even though i'm Australian . 💜
