I loved hades cuz it felt so good to play.. combats so slick and builds are fun. what you said about the stories tho was a revelatioin for me, and it got me nodding my head along with you. Loved hearing you talk abou games!
aaaaa i wish i could watch this but i won't because of spoilers - you're one of my new favorite video-makers i've found this year, so thank you for doing what you do! i'd love to see a place where we can all chat about games somewhat soon (if it's on the radar) whether it's a discord server or something else, but for now i'll stay tuned for more of your videos!
Thank you so much for the huge compliment! Also here's spoiler free summaries on my ko-fi if you'd like. And I think a Discord is in the stars for 2024 :)
Hey Marisa! I'm a month late to this video, but since you asked, I just got done playing the entire Metal Gear Solid Franchise on PS3+PSP+PS5 (~11 games or so), since I never played them as a kid. I also played Death Stranding to cap off my crash-course in Hideo Kojima lore 🤣. They're all very macho-man-action-hero type games, but overall I think my favourite was MGS4 - it had some pretty emotional moments and the plot was brilliantly linked back to the previous games. Gameplay was a lot more intuitive with more modern controls as well. Hope you have a great 2024!
Thanks for sharing! I definitely want to tackle the MGS franchise and I think I'm going to play Death Stranding soon - I got it for free on Epic Games so I may as well~
I played Super Mario Bros 1 & 3, Super Mario World, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Def Jam: Fight for NY, Wendy Every Witch Way, Crash 2 (GBA), Spyro 2 (GBA), 999(DS), Megaman Starforce 1 (DS), Spider-man (PS1), Spider-man (PS4)... I think that's it... Fun times.
@@yourcoolunclemarisa It was Crash 2: N-tranced & Spyro 2: Season of Flame. Different from home consoles but still pretty fun. Crash was a fun 2D platformer. Spyro was a weird isometric pov that took some getting used to, but still a fun collect-a-thon.
Fun fact about Zagreus' origins, there's a lot of myth that conflates him and Dionysus as the same character. One of the interactions between Zag and Dio has Dio suggesting to Zag that you play a trick on Orpheus, and Zagreus tells Orpheus that he and Dio are the same person. They in-universe poked fun at the real-world fact that myths attributed to the mythical Orpheus conflate Zagreus and Dionysis. I though that was hilarious. And amusingly I've felt the exact opposite about Supergiant's catalogue. The combat in Transistor was so annoying that I've barely been able to get a couple hours in, despite trying multiple times, and Bastion was so underwhelming that I just forgot to keep playing it about a third of the way through. I will grant that the music in both was phenomenal though, as was the music in Hades. My wife and I listen to it in the car all the time. I agree with your take on Moonlighter though. There's just something about games with a cozy half and an action half like that. Mageseeker is a recent example that had the same thing, and you might like it if you liked Moonlighter (same devs too).
Yeah, I read that about Zagreus/Dionysus - really interesting that one won over the other haha. I will definitely check out Mageseeker too - I had no idea they made another one! Thank you for watching!
Firstly thanks for talking about playing 12 games - I’ve seen so many people on social media who seem to have played hundreds and I’m just like who has the time!! The only one in this vid that I’ve played is Hades - I did like it a lot, I think I enjoyed mainly the gameplay rather than the story really but I did enjoy the setting? I think I’m one of the people who knew most of the myths it was based on, but haven’t got an English or theatre degree so I’m not sick of them yet. So many games in this video you made me to eager to play !! I don’t have time or money for this 😅 nier replicant is on ps plus though so I think I’m going to give that a try soon. I also really appreciated your discussion of how some of these games reflect things going on in the world. Have you read much Mark Fisher? He wrote more about movies and music but it would be interesting to see how the stuff he says in books like Capitalist Realism connect to the games you’re talking about here
Thank you for watching! I feel like twelve games was a lot for me - how are people playing 100?! I feel like I've read Mark Fisher in one of my readers in college but I'll take a look at that book. Hope you can check out NieR and that I didn't spoil anything for you too terribly :')
I really recommend you pick up Sam's Journey for the Famicom or NES. I will be playing on my Famicom Toploader with my Rad2X Cable. I will be doing some Handheld too with the HD-938 from Ali-Express. Now just waiting for Orange Island and Piopow to come out.
A Summer's End: Hong Kong 1986 was an amazing visual novel. I watched it played on a stream recently and everyone was enthralled with the story. The dialogue is a little funny sometimes but the story is just great. I’ve thought about it many times since.
@@yourcoolunclemarisa i work at studio where we made a visual novel 3 years ago. It's called "A field of Flowers and Stars" it's a lesbian romantic sci-fi adventure ✨
Played Parasite Eve like 12 yrs ago. Remembered it being pretty good. Loved the NYC settings. FF12 started out so strong. Fun combat, good world building, cool characters. I lost interest towards the end as the story got too convoluted and I didn’t know what the heck was going on. I did beat it but I don’t even remember what happened. I played a lot of good games this year. Sea of Stars, Jedi Survivor, Ghost Trick, TotK. The game I spent the most hrs on was Persona 5 Royal. Very good game but a big time commitment cause it takes 150 hrs to beat. But I’m glad I can knock it off my list. Anyways, happy holidays
I haven't played my PSP in a hot minute but I love it. Star Ocean First Departure was a fun game! I have the first God of War psp where it was all glossy red and has Kratos' face on the battery cover.
@@yourcoolunclemarisa I just kept hearing "BOY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! I THOUGHT YOU KNEW HOW TO PLAY GAMES" Which was weird because that was years before the newer games

That's a good amount! How are Spyro and Crash for GBA? I always assumed they were sad shells of what they were for us handheld kiddos.

Only if you play with me.
I really like Ohsat Games Kid Bubblegum and Chibi Ninja Shino Kun. I enjoyed them this year a lot.
