Brooklands has been home to the SmartFest ...since it began in 2002, the smart festival has grown every year and this years gathering (the tenth) certainly didn't disappoint with record numbers flocking to Weybridge - making it biggest and best-ever single-day gathering of smarts so far...
Many smart owners, smart lovers, celebrities and enthusiasts, travelled in convey from various 'smart dealers' across the country to enjoy the day - on arrival they were given 'goodie bags' containing a variety of items including free vouchers towards their food and drinks - which was a very nice gesture by Mercedes - and one I'm sure everyone appreciated...
Like last year, the weather turned out to be a gloriously sunny and warm one. The day began with the 'smart arrows display team' taking to the track and this was followed by various fortwo smart vehicles going head-to-head playing 'smart football' and the fun didn't stop there, elsewhere other activities were running too...
Smart 'egg and spoon' races and opportunities to drive the latest zero-emission smart fortwo electric cars all added to the days fun - there was a fashion show, balloon races, numerous stalls to visit and probably one of the highlights for many people was being able to see, hear and watch Lewis Hamilton, who really entered into the spirit of things...
Lewis demonstrated his skills on the 'skid pan' before giving out prizes, which were voted for by the attendees - for the 'best dressed', 'best kepted' and the 'most modified' smart of the day. He was also extremely generous with his time, answering questions and signing autographs on scraps of paper, tee shirts and photographs too...
It was a really great day ...enjoyed by all and well worth the visit, and if you're thinking of stopping-over next year and want to make a long week-end of it - I would most certainly recommend a couple of nights at the newly opened Brooklands Hotel which is ideally situated just a two minute walk away from both Mercedes-Benz World and the Brooklands Museum.
