I think Rob and Sean fought a similar Paulo Costa but the difference is that Sean moved forwards ALL THE TIME and checked some of Paulo's leg kicks which caused pain to Paulo.

Why is everyone forgetting the constant threat of the takedown? This is why the striking is successful, not because they're the better stiker but more complete fighter..
Your take on strickland not getting a title shot is weird man, you are clearly hating since whittaker the potential fighter for the title is in front of you. Belal is boring too but he is the one who deserves the title shot in his weightclass similar with strickland.
Dude is so hard on Jailton. He's finished in every win of his career including 6 UFC fights but one decision against Lewis and bro is not having it. lmao. That fight did suck but Lewis is known for KOing people who spend too much energy grappling him.
Facts, hes finished most of his ufc fights in 1st rd before the lewis one off. Lewis should take partial blame for that too, hard to sub someone who dosent even attempt to move
This fight should've been Sean vs Robert. You can call it boring but they both beat Coasta and one came out with way less damage even though Coasta backed up the whole fight. Something he didn't do against Robert because he hurt Robert.
@@robng3793 I understand that. When Robert survived that headkick and then stood his ground and threw back, I was pumped. But it's not Sean's fault that dudes like coasts and izzy go backwards the whole fight.
I think Dustin commented on his lower volume in striking and it was due to the takedown threat so he couldn't strike with the ferocity that he normally does. Let me know your thoughts on that. I think Islam is a master at mixing it all together to give him that advantage on the feet.
Listen to you say that costa didn't show up against sean was wild. Atleast Rob knew that wasn't the case. I don't know why but sean is the best fighter in the world at 185 right now. He beat ddp in the first fight and deserves the rematch.

The thing is that Makhachev never faces an opponent in pure striking. He faces opponents in a set of circumstances where they are wary of his takedowns while he doesn't care about their takedowns. Under those circumstances he's the best striker in the division.
It's Mixed Martial Arts, so that's a given yes? It's to see who has the best style to win a fight. I agree that in MMA, Islam's striking is elite. It's exactly the way DJ was able to survive Rodtang's Muay Thai in their mixed rules fight and then submit Rodtang in the 2nd round when DJ was able to use strikes to set up the grappling.
@@josepharmand6117 in your logic the grappling doesn't count, So why is poirier "best boxer" is loosing his time in mma instead of boxing where he makes 8 figures? Im genuinely asking.
@@Merguez1900 I think you've completely misunderstood what I'm saying. Absolutely nowhere do I say or imply that 'grappling doesn't count'. The opposite in fact. Secondly, I never said Poirier was 'best boxer'. Thirdly, even if Poirier was 'best boxer' in his division of MMA...that is absolutely not the same thing as being 'best boxer' in a boxing division. How is this Sean's fault that it was boring. His opponent is running away the entire time dude, i don't understand why people are blaming him for the fight being boring, it takes two to tango.
The most frustrating thing about sean is that he only really lets go in the last minute of round 5 he does it in all his fights and immediately his opponent is overwhlemed if he just done that for 30 seconds to a minute in the other rounds he'd be unstoppable but he just keeps fighting the same pitter patter fights, never really looking for the finish when he easily could get one
What was sean supposed to do? Costa was running the whole fight. Was he suppose to get reckless and just close his eyes and swing away? He did what he was suppose to.
Nah being harsh on Strickland I think. Costa was backing up the entire fight, which was because of Sean and what he was doing. He won all 5 rounds. If you don’t like his style, then your mind is a bit closed I think. Respectfully.
Have you ever seen Alex Pereira have to chase opponents? No, because he can cut the cage off. Strickland's style is boring. If he can't time you off-balance then he's going to jab, 1-2, teep, rinse and repeat for 4 rounds and 4:50 minutes until he opens up in the last 10 seconds. He's legitimately more boring than Adesanya and Leon. Very risk averse to take the finish.
Bro I forget robs cohosts name, but how are you going to tell Sean to do something when he’s just walking down Costa. Costa was at fault because he kept backing up and running away
Great content as always guys, just dont agree at all with jonnys take on the strickland costa fight. Strickland is walking foward the entire time against a very dangerous guy, if it’s someone’s fault for a boring fight it’s the guy whos backing up (Costa). What do u want sean to do lol? Run at him like a madman so he can get countered? I think sean was by far the more aggressive fighter and there was just nothing coming back his way which lead to the mediocre fight.
Rob, Dynasty Warriors 8 XL is on steam and it’s probably the best currently available Dynasty Warriors game. Could be one to get stuck in between training sessions while you’re over there.
27:19 To be fair to Almeida he’s never been a ‘boring’ fighter. He had one boring fight against Derrick Lewis but it’s Derrick Lewis, impossible to submit unless your DC and it’s so risky posturing up to throw strikes because he can explode up or explode into a sweep. Johnny don’t talk about what fighters need to do in fights, way above your pay grade
Totally agree with jonny on the way sean fight, i don't want to see him fight dricus again, i am a fan of sean style but because he always promise a war but then does the same thing that adesanya does, one leg kicks and run around the cage the other jab and teep kicks, i feel sorry for costa, i don't know where he goes from here
You're totally lost lol. Sean is always the one walking forward constantly staying withing striking range and trying to engage. Paulo walked backwards for 25 minutes trying to find low kicks that ultimately weren't doing much to Sean, instead of standing his ground getting into exchanges and trying to catch Strickland. After the Whittaker fight everyone was talking about the return of Costa, the power, the headkick that would KO Sean, and at the end of the day he did none of that just walked back and took it for 5 rounds.
@@annetteiles5724 sure but then neither him or his bandwagon fans should complain when he has close fights like the cannonier or dricus fight,it will happen again, maybe this time it was costa fault, but i have been watching Sean since the uriah hall fight, he never takes any risk so he will always have problem with judges
But Sean vs Dricus was a war so I don't get that take. This is like when people said Izzy is boring after Romero. Well it depends because you also have fights like Gastelum. I think it's clear that it just takes 2 people who are willing to engage.

Good luck, Rob on your flight I’m confident you’re gonna win. I love the way Rob kids are number 1 to him doesn’t matter how much noise they make. It’s okay and that’s the way it should be naturally a great father
Ppl are forgetting khabib didn’t get takedowns unless he was on the fence… he was like merab spam 100 takedown but when he got that 1 you were in trouble. Islam doesn’t do 100 takedowns. He does 1 maybe 2 but if he gets you down your in trouble.
Johnny makes a great point, Sean’s style is making it look way to close even tho he is almost dominating
Why is everyone forgetting the constant threat of the takedown? This is why the striking is successful, not because they're the better stiker but more complete fighter..
Let's go Rob!!!! Hoping for the best. Let's get this W
Your take on strickland not getting a title shot is weird man, you are clearly hating since whittaker the potential fighter for the title is in front of you. Belal is boring too but he is the one who deserves the title shot in his weightclass similar with strickland.
I believe that Islam will be even more dangerous when he moves to 170 because he wouldn't then have to lose that weight.
Ufc dropped the ball by not just making Whittaker Strickland for number 1 contender fight
Checking a leg kick with the opposite leg could break your leg. That one he check on Costa looked painful.
Difference is 3 rounds compared to 5 and costa hurt Rob for like 3 seconds and got countered right after
@@robng3793 I understand that.
I've got 6 grandkids. When I hear Robs kids, I think it is my gk.😂😂 Love it. 👍👍👍
Listen to you say that costa didn't show up against sean was wild. Atleast Rob knew that wasn't the case. I don't know why but sean is the best fighter in the world at 185 right now. He beat ddp in the first fight and deserves the rematch.
I've seen the Russian tie snap, and thats usually the wrist. That was the first time I witnessed whatever that was with the foot. Perhaps, "Makhachev foot swing"? 😂
My favorite part of this podcast is hearing the kids in the background. Rob isnt just a great fighter but a great dad!!! Let them babies yell!!!
Started watching Shangri-La Frontier upon your recco a few episodes back - and it just hits the spot 👌. Would love to hear you guys talk about it a bit more. Wondering if we could start a recco list somehow? Been having to scour old episodes back to find the names of anime and books 😂
Have an awesome fight, Rob!
Rob Whittaker is brutally honest and spot on! Thanks Jonny for this interview!
According to your logic poirier can beat Crawford lol
@@Merguez1900 Nope. I'd say that's clearly according to *your* logic.
For all we know he may not even be competitive among the best boxers.
Kevin holland doesn't want the title. He said post fight last night he will be the best gate keeper ever. That's why he can jump weights with no worries
Fun fact: The last time Rob finished someone was 2024
Would be awesome to see some MMArcade watch alongs to ufc fights with the two boys, and then maybe have Jonny watch robs fight against khamzat too. Love the podcasts though boys keep up the good work! 👍
Hope Jonny gets better, make sure to get some codral extra strength ones from the pharmacy, they’ll ask for your driver’s license but they’re much more effective than the usual shelf ones!
Dana made the smart move of offering belal the title shot against Leon to block Islam out
It's because Dustin couldn't committ to his striking. Even the strikes he threw he couldn't plant and put his hip into it due to being taken down.
How is this Sean's fault that it was boring. His opponent is running away the entire time dude, i don't understand why people are blaming him for the fight being boring, it takes two to tango.
Rob always wth the black eyes lol
The most frustrating thing about sean is that he only really lets go in the last minute of round 5 he does it in all his fights and immediately his opponent is overwhlemed if he just done that for 30 seconds to a minute in the other rounds he'd be unstoppable but he just keeps fighting the same pitter patter fights, never really looking for the finish when he easily could get one
What was sean supposed to do? Costa was running the whole fight. Was he suppose to get reckless and just close his eyes and swing away? He did what he was suppose to.
Makhachev i think he béat arman in Unnimas dessin next octobre I can see that
Hello legend! Much love Rob!
Volkanovski showed being patient wears out the dagestani
It wasn’t Sean’s faul Costa ran away from him. How can Sean make it a fun fight if his opponent is too afraid to engage with him ?
Dustin and Islam saved the card. What a fight! ✊
Islam clearly was winning every round
It’s genuinely unbelievable how blinded fans have become out of hatred for the guy. Shit is pathetic
Nah being harsh on Strickland I think. Costa was backing up the entire fight, which was because of Sean and what he was doing. He won all 5 rounds. If you don’t like his style, then your mind is a bit closed I think. Respectfully.
To be fair, they would be a bit bias cause they are both competing for the same fight next time
Have you ever seen Alex Pereira have to chase opponents? No, because he can cut the cage off. Strickland's style is boring. If he can't time you off-balance then he's going to jab, 1-2, teep, rinse and repeat for 4 rounds and 4:50 minutes until he opens up in the last 10 seconds. He's legitimately more boring than Adesanya and Leon. Very risk averse to take the finish.
I think Jon took Cyril’s confidence. Dude should just go kickboxing. He’s amazing on his feet.
Bro I forget robs cohosts name, but how are you going to tell Sean to do something when he’s just walking down Costa. Costa was at fault because he kept backing up and running away
Nah bro Sean needs the title shot. Robbed with DDP and beat costa better than rob. Makes no sense to get a shot off of khamzat.
I don't think it is Strickland's fault. If the opponent is running for 5 rounds, what can he do.
it's criminal Bassil vs Mickey didn't get a fight of the night bonus... that was by far the second best fight on the card.
Rob basically described Moonlighter in the game he wants
Rob, Dynasty Warriors 8 XL is on steam and it’s probably the best currently available Dynasty Warriors game. Could be one to get stuck in between training sessions while you’re over there.
Kevin holland knows he never gonna be champ. So he just wants to accept fights no matter the weight class and collect his checks.
Strickland doing the can-can in the first round
DP most dangerous 'tired striker' in the world. holy shit that is soooo fukin accurate. Tired Striking needs to be thought about more fr
He's fighting the best of the best, you can't be careless in the cage with killers, you'd last 10 seconds and that's being generous
And one more thing, Costa kept running away so how can sean beat him up
But Sean vs Dricus was a war so I don't get that take. This is like when people said Izzy is boring after Romero. Well it depends because you also have fights like Gastelum. I think it's clear that it just takes 2 people who are willing to engage.
Rob please close your door 😅
Jesus john what the fuck was that strickland take
