That last race really showed his genuine class, as we have seen the beaten horses like Carlton House and Reliable Man run in Australia, so we can say this was a quality field.
It was IMO, a solid if not elite field. I think the best field he raced in was the British Champion Stakes where he backed up 13 days after running a creditable 4th in the fastest Arc in history to be beaten by a seriously good horse in Cirrus Des Aigles in another very fast time (2secs inside standard). You could forgive him for being a little dour in that race. But look at the horses he beat. Snow Fairy (who also ran in the Arc), Nathaniel, Midday, Wigmore Hall. I think that, with another week lead in he'd have beaten CDA over 10F convincingly. This 5-6L thrashing by Frankel is a figment of overzealous imaginations.

he did run his very best in champion stakes he beat snow fairy by the exact same distance he beat her by in the irish champion stakes earlier that year he beat her by exactly a 1/2 length both times so he ran right up to his best hear. truth is . CIRRUS DES AIGLES was just to good for him and the scary thing is CIRRUS was much better on soft going which he didn't get here.
Poor Manhattan Rain. Very classy but his shot at 3 big prizes: Slipper, C Guineas and Cox had him as a bridesmaid. I think he won a sires because Gai always trained her slipper horses for a 1-2 punch a week apart.
Would have been a shoe in for the Cox Plate of 2011. He would have lapped the likes of Pinker Pinker. It would not have been a good financial season though as he would have had to miss a full southern hemisphere breeding season. He would have had to have won 3 Cox Plates to make the same amount as he could in the barn... not to mention the importance to getting his first foals on the ground as early as possible.
Dato turned into a silly old wealthy man who had long ago lost the understanding of pleasure and instead turned over another quick buck in selling So You Think! He could have taken himself and Bart on a conquering journey to Europe and taken all before them - instead at a stupid old age he sells him off for money he didn't need and then Aidan O'Brien proved he only walks in Bart's shadow, being forced to publically admit that yes Bart was right on how to get the best out of the Champion! Under Bart's guidance So You Think would have won more races in Europe!
Bart was not one to campaign horses OS, especially after what happened with Saintly in Japan. As it was I am glad Datonsold him. Although I wasn't at all impressed with the way they managed his career at least we got a chance to see one of our quality middle distance horses campaign in some of the best European races. Up until then we had some outstanding middle distance horses that were massively under-rated in world racing. SYY demonstrated that and ratings like that which will be bestowed on the likes of Winx is a result of this new benchmarking. JMO.
B Gardiner I got the feeling that SYT was a horse that Bart would have taken to Europe. There is no doubt that Bart was disappointed that Dato sold him. With Bart it's not what he said at the time but what he didn't say. Of course this is my opinion but I think Bart rated SYT far more than he let on.
Who knows what might have been had he stayed in Australia. You can guarantee he'd have aimed him at a 3rd Cox Plate and you know the history with Bart and the Cup. But he was always going to be sold as a stallion for mega bucks so a trip to Europe would probably have been on the cards at some point. I would have liked to see him in a Japan Cup. You can also bet that he'd not have had a crack at a World Cup or a BCC.
Dubai WC and Japan Cup would have been huge - but you are right - if you can take your horse to Europe and pick up G1s then it bolsters your breeding price/standing. I think that is where Winx will go. The only race in the Autumn that is worth it in Oz is the QE II Stakes - it's our highest rated race on the world stage - I'd be surprised if they don't take her to Europe next year for their summer.
