Besides Mahoosuc Notch in Vt, the Cat Rocks of NY can qualify for a treacherous punishing obstacle out of Dante’s Inferno. Or, seemingly an AT engineered challenge reminiscent of Hunger Games. Thanks for the pleasant commentary, beautiful views and all the formidable roots, rocks, mud, and steep slopes you encountered. Just another Bravo to you for completing this arduous hike. Very enjoyable. I appreciate your effort in producing the vlogs. Wishing you peace and good fortune. Happy Trails!
I loved your recap. I’ve seen others but they didn’t give mile markers or if it’s a blue blaze. This helps us actually plan for our hike. Thanks so much.
As much as I would like to give it to Pennsylvania, the graffiti-covered High Rock is actually still in Maryland. It's just a few miles south of Pen Mar, which itself is right on the Mason-Dixon line (or, maybe a half-mile south of it). I do agree it's a nice view, but the fact that it's basically on a road means that the local teenagers have made it a destination.
Thanks for the location correction! I couldn’t quite figure it out, and I kept thinking it was Maryland, but the mileage put it in PA for some reason - probably since it’s so close to the border. It was definitely…a sight…
So is one of things you sent home before taking on the Whites your bear canister? I’m starting a flip flop thru hike in May and trying to decide whether or not to take a hard sided bear canister.
I carried my bear can from Georgia to just before the Whites. I had planned to carry it the whole way, but when I added back my winter gear weight, I had lost too much body weight to make carrying that heavy of a backpack through that rough of terrain practical or safe for myself. There are only a few sections on the AT that actually require you to carry a bear can, and most people use ursacks or hang, but the canister is what the ATC recommends. Hope that helps! Have fun on your thru!

Of course! Hopefully I didn’t ruin all the surprises for you!
