    I think the true power of 3D printing comes when you start making/customizing models.

      Absolutely! Once I started building my own models and adapting others is when I really doubled down and started printing a lot.

    Agree that a 3D printer is great for many parts around the shop. So is metal working kit. We do not have to stick to dead plants...

      Absolutely! Metal work is on my bucket list of things to learn how to do. Hopefully I can add that as a stretch goal for my 2024 list.

      Well to be honest I haven't printed anything for any pets though I did once consider doing a water bowl.

    I'm curious about the time that it takes to print parts. Can you provide a couple of examples of print times? What is the print rate on your Prusa printers?

      Sure the first example is a cable or hose holder that I printed 0.15mm layer height with a 0.40mm nozzle and that took 12 hours and 9 minutes. Link -> www.printables.com/model/269911-hose-and-cable-holder-wall-dog-screw-adaptation
      Now looking back I could have probably printed that at 0.20mm layer height without issue and that would have shaved off some time. The smaller the layers the more passes the printer makes and the more time it takes.
      The next is 6” radius jig template for my router table. It printed at 0.20mm layer height with the 0.40mm nozzle and took 5 hours and 36 minutes. Link -> www.printables.com/model/565655-6in-corner-radius-jig
      The last example is a deflector for my Jet air filtration unit. This printed at 0.20mm layer height with the 0.40mm nozzle and took in total 43 hours and 40 minutes to print all 4 parts that I later glued together. Link -> www.printables.com/model/501560-jet-afs-100b-exhaust-deflector
      I hope that answers your question. The one thing I should note is that my Prusas are in enclosures and for added safety I am have fire extinguishing devices in them. Which for me means once I start a print I can walk away and come back to check on them. Most of the time I am not far away, but I also am not worried. The Prusas are really good machines.

    Why do you choose Prusa over Bambu for your next printer?

      Great question I was actually thinking about shooting a video to talk about this because I just bought two MK4s during their black Friday sale.
      For me the allure of the Bambu Labs X1 Carbon was printing quickly with multiple filament colors for the same cost roughly as at the time getting a Prusa i3 MK3S+ in a case. All of the reviews for the Bambu looked great and I could get it really quick without the wait. I had at the time an order pending with Prusa for 2 enclosures that were at around 7-10 weeks wait time.
      What happened after I got the Bambu Labs X1 Carbon was a painful exercise in dialing it in. While they had their own PLA figured out and the settings worked well with other PLAs when it game to PETG it was a mess. I actually have a Reddit post where I talked about my experience, got help from others and eventually gave help to others. It is kind of funny because along my adventure in trying to figure out the Bambu I wasted so much PETG printing where it would look great until all of a sudden then a pimple or bad inner wall layer would happen. Very frustrating in that regards, but what I didn't have was corner curl which was a problem with my Prusa in an open air world in my office.
      Eventually my enclosures got here and once I put the Prusas in them they have been flawless. I should note that I had the Bambu 95% figured out with PETG, but the answer was slowing it down to the speed of the Prusa and I still had another 5% to figure out. I even tried OrcaSlicer the open source edit of Bambu Studio which is based on PrusaSlicer, but still not there.
      I guess long story for me is the Prusas now in cases print flawlessly with little to no supervision. I have also had issues with the Prusa: thermistor wire replacement, bearing replacement, hot end replacement, and a nozzle replacement. All of these were easy-ish fixes that were well documented via Prusa's own support pages. When it came to fixing a clog on my Bambu I had to go to one Reddit post and 2 TH-cam videos at the time to figure out how to do it. Bambu's documentation and support just don't rival what Prusa has plus you can get Prusa support to talk to you live fairly quickly which was a huge plus. For example I was troubleshooting an X axis layer issues which turned out to be bearings and they were so helpful.
      So for me tried and true, easy to follow support, lots of support, and flawless prints are the reasons I am back in Prusa's camp.

    What is your primary filament type, pla or petg?

      Primarily I use Prusament PETG and dry it for 6 hours in a SUNLU dryer at 65°C before printing.

      @@builderdads what are you default bed and print temps? I am having all kinds of print issues with PETG.

      I am running PrusaSlicer default settings that have Nozzle settings at first layer at 240°C with all other layers at 250°C then Bed settings are first first layer 85°C and other layers 90°C. These default settings work great for the Prusa MK3S+ printers using Prusament and the Bambo Labs Carbon X1 spawned a whole Reddit thread where I never really found the right answer, but got close.

      @@builderdads I'm using the new AnkerMake M5C. I am new to 3D printing in general. So, I'm still trying get the basics down.

      @@carpentersson2884 no worries while I do not have experience with that printer I can tell you from experience with Bambu X1 Carbon step 1 is a good first layer. Once you have a good first layer for me it was all about slowing down the print and heating it up. Once I was able to reproduce a reliable small print with PETG then I started dialing in settings until I was happy.
      Since I don’t have experience with that printer I can’t give you a clear answer, but if you search your printer and PETG you might find a post somewhere from someone who solved that problem.
