Clive, you share so much good information. I'm paying close attention and as you said indirect painting isn't taught but they're intent on one doing a sketch or drawing with tone values (if that's the correct way to say it) and I have been doing direct painting. I surely recognized the extra work that I saw you doing..before I go to the next tutorial I think I shall have a cup of coffee. And on my next painting I'm about to begin it's going to be (difficult at first, I'm sure) indirect. I'm thinking once I master this then my paintings will be much better.
Mmmm ?? Off the top of my head I would start with a light grey then add highlights of different shades of white mixed with maybe a yellow ochre or a cold grey not tried it but it would be similar to that I guess

What colours would you use if you were trying to emulate white satin?
