That was really interesting from a newcomer's point of view - I'm from Cramlington (near Newcastle) and we had something similar for Cramlington. Really cool to be able to recognise some of the places as they're being built :) Well done
Great Memories - Walked through the town every School night for five years to get home From Wheelwright Boys to Bywell Road. Went to Dewsbury last week - it appears to be dying - Mark & Spencers has now Gone - Dec 2007
Great pictures driver804! It's a long time since the roads were that quiet (although I now live in Sweden and the roads are quiet here). Thanks for uploading
yep, you're completely right. What I love most is being within walking distance of the moor as well...! Beautiful greenery, the stream, nice breeze in summer! also, good luck next season in the premiership ;P.
I grew up in Dewsbury all my life, 40 years of it, I moved to the States 3 years ago and quite honestly don't want to see Dewsbury again....or most of England come to that. Thanks for the pics though, reminds me of a time I used to love my town and the people there.
Hey, I was brought up all over Dewsbury/ batley/heckmondwike area. It used to be muchbetter then. I remmeber the old Wakefield Rd and how Dewsbury was always packed with traffic by the phone boxes before the Ring Road was built. They made a mess of dewsbury when they paved it all over .
For anybody trying to picture if thats the bus station at Dewsbury, its the original bus station, which is now where the 'Princess of Wales' precinct is, ie Boots, Argos, WH Smiths are. I've the same photos on disc
@LauraIsobelx Correction - I live in Dewsbury (I was hoping to see Machells Mill in this video) and it WAS was a lovely place but it's gone to the dogs now. Just have a look at my Dewsbury video to see why.
Hi driver804, I have lived in dewsbury all my life 33 years, I remember the two roads that were in front of what is now Yorkshire bank (cant remember if it was the bank then or not) and also remember the old road layout leading up to Wakefield road. Dewsbury had gone down hill but its still home. Im mixed race and hate all the racism and also hate all the bad publicity Dewsbury has got in recent years. Do you have any more photos? Thornhill Lees or Thornhill?
@burnleyfan1965 - I agree. I was brought up round the area in the 70s and 80s. Moved away for most of the 90s but moved back to the area. There are loads of worse towns than this !!!!
Dewsbury Worries Me - I was born and bred there, but now - well no integration anywhere - like two different countries - The young Muslims are Muslim when it suits them, does anyone question how these young unemployed Asians drive round Saville town with impunity in top of the Range Audis and Mercedes?? They can't justify earnings to buy a £ 70,000 car. The Police & Authorities daren't ask questions - too sensitive
ye coz your hard aint ya u can tell your from dewsbury usual chav! and ye im from dewsbury so what its full of them but there no need to say that ff's get a grip an grow up !!!!!

I would love to see these photographs in an album type format, as I love the old photos of my town. I'm from Thornhill Lees by the way and thanks.
Nice compilation. Mum and dad still there; but I don't go there very often.

I wish there were street names under each picture as I dont really recognise many of the streets shown in the video. I was born in dewsbury too.
