Collecting SAK’s is definitely addictive, I am surprised there is not a support group for the addiction. I keep telling myself I don’t need anymore, but that dang post office keeps putting them in my mailbox. Looking forward to your next video.
You did a very good job cleaning up the blade on that 82mm Wenger. I was watching that knife on eBay and you got a great deal. Overall it’s in good shape for a 60 year old knife and a great addition to the collection. Wenger documentation and records are lacking as there was a major fire at the Wenger factory and HQ in 1986 that destroyed most company records.
Thanks for sharing I was wondering why there is such a lack of info on older Wenger knives. I was very fortunate that nobody bid this up. I’m sure the blade was a factor but I see ones in similar condition go for more all the time. There is a book called “The Collector’s Guide to Wenger Knives” by Dave Arnold that was just published a few years ago by the owner of what’s likely the largest and most complete collection of them in the world, but I haven’t been able to find a copy yet. Dave Arnold owns nearly every knife Wenger ever made and put together the most comprehensive collection of information but the book sold out quickly and hasn’t been reprinted yet.
@@swizzarmygrizz I am friends with Dave and have a copy of his book. I’ve got a pretty good collection of vintage Wenger Knives from starting around 1910 til when the company was absorbed into victorinox. The fiber scale Wengers are my favorites. The fit and finish is divine. The Tahara era knives with stainless steel and nickel silver liners have the best action and snap of any SAK I’ve felt.
@@jimihendrix731 that’s great. I am only aware of him because of his work with HobieonTH-cam and the videos of his collection as well as the knives he loans Hobie to cover. I am just starting to collect Wenger knives as I was mainly focused on Victorinox. I am basically a newb since I only started collecting in 2020 but I became disabled and suddenly had too much free time so have been learning quickly and already have well over 100 vintage knives, probably closer to 150, some dating back to the 1930s. As you know the older they get the $$$ they cost. Thank you for watching and helping me out by correcting me or adding information I missed. I am trying to do the best I can to share as much verifiable info as possible with the minimal resources I have available.
@@swizzarmygrizz was that you who just bid on that 84mm climber that was listed as a “91mm champion plus”? I thought I was the only one who noticed it and when I saw I had been outbid with 10min to go, I was caught by surprise haha I had to up the ante at the last second and got it. That’ll be my first 84mm Vic with the scissors. Looks to be one of the last ones made. I thought you said you were done buying SAKS for awhile? Haha it’s impossible to stop.
@@jimihendrix731 yeah it was. I figured if I could get it for $50 I’d take it but you got a great deal on it. I love when they have blade etches from the Swiss knife shops.
I could do a video showing that it won’t hurt them at all as they are overbuilt. The hardest part for me will be getting cans that don’t have a pull tab on them.
We just don't have the ability to get such gems here in th UK! Ebay wont allow knife sales and a very limited etsy Although they do come up but usually not like the really old ones you have there ! But i like you say I'm not buying anymore and then I'm deep in etsy hoping for a fix !
I know your country has some difficult laws about knives. I was always curious why I can never buy lives from UK and now it makes sense. As far as trying not to buy knives, the struggle is real. I just bought a Fox German Navy knife. My excuse being that it isn’t a SAK at least. I need help.
my about 100 ! yoa, has a weird camo and an inlaid shield, very small shackle- set up like a Spartan. someone said it a Pradel but did they steal logos!? could it be a Wenger?
I don't think we will se bails again. Perhaps on a limited edition or something like that. While I love the look of the bails, I do confess that I prefer the key ring for daily use.

Thanks for watching. Need to start SAKA, Swiss Army Knives Anonymous.
Excellent old knife. I'll bet it's had a lot of memories in it.
I’m sure it has PSTD from the trauma it endured being sharpened with a brick. Unfortunately knives don’t speak, by they still tell a story.
I love your knife to,great bit of history mate.atb paddy

I would like to see those different can openers open different cans. But it seem these collector's items are too fragile to show in action.

There are some SAK groups, even just Wenger groups, on Facebook.
Knives sure we're built better back in the '60s, looked better too.
Absolutely. I have to say that Victorinox, and Wenger managed to keep their quality consistently high over the years.

There were companies that copied the logos. I wouldn’t know without seeing it. I wish you could post pics in comments here.
@@swizzarmygrizz thanks, I'll try
I have little wild ✨🐀✨ living my balcony , I give him food ✨🐭✨ 🙂
Pet mice and rats are amazing. Like little puppies that never get big. I saved two wild mice from a glue trap in my basement.
I have the same knife without the shackle... lots of {{{{SNAP}}}}.... Red paint around cross is intact.. Cool little knife.
Nice seeing the older models,I wonder if they will ever put the bails back on the knives.
