  • Step by step guide to programming a second key for your Honda motorcycle with the HISS security system. The bike in the video is my 2019 Honda CB650R but this procedure will work with most Honda bikes using the HISS system.
    If you like the bike then check out my series of videos covering the repair of this Copart salvage bike.
    I got my key from a seller called sam_doctor on ebay - I have no affiliation but it all worked out for me!
    Here is the key I bought: www.ebay.co.uk...

    Just managed to code a replacement key following your guide, I did the same buying a Honda NC750x from Copart, it came with one original key but I needed another, so bought one from Chema LTD, they cut the key from a photo I supplied with chip, and using your video it all worked perfectly, big thanks.

    Worked the first time for me, using:
    1kOhm Resistor and 10A Fuse on red wire,
    aligator clips for black and red wires on battery
    makeshift connectors on sumitomo
    4 HISS flashes = key programmed.
    Do them all, test them afterwards.

    May sound silly but could you actually connect all the small wires used from the spare radio harness to make the 2 longer wires just cut off the pins off all the other small wires then crimp them together to make the 2 long wires also do u have to use a inline fuse thank you

    • @beanosgarage9606
      @beanosgarage9606  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you could do that. No need for the thicker gauge wire I used, i just happened to have that spare. It also meant I didn’t need lots of joins. Can get away without an in-line fuse, it’s the resistor that’s essential for it to work. It’s not drawing a lot of power for this procedure. Thanks for watching.

Except for when I put the new key in, the HISS light will be on for a few seconds, then start blinking, it does blink 4 times, but the last 2 blinks are noticeably slower. Taking everything out and trying the key then, nothing happens and the HISS light will just stay on. This is on a CBR 600f4i. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      The programming process should remove any previous keys that are not recoded at the same time. I've done this on my previous bike (2002 cbr600f) with my own diy lead made using a genuine plug from a breakers yard. That ended up with 3 keys after only getting 1 originally so got a second then the dealer lost one but found the original spare....

  • @Mikethevidman
    @Mikethevidman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've read that if you already have 2 programmed keys and want to program another you have to use one of the keys as a sample but then have to reprogram both original keys and the new ones.
    I also read that there is a limit of 4 keys that can be programmed. Does this mean that if you have 2 good keys you can program an additional 2? Final question. If you have programmed the 2 original keys and 2 new ones, can you repeat the while process again if you loose a couple of keys, or will the process be"used" up and no longer effective?
    Thanks
    Mike

      Hi Mike, all great questions! And ones I unfortunately don’t know the answer to I am afraid!! On your last point, I cant see that the process would stop working if you kept losing your keys? Hey Beano's garage, looking the the service manual it states in a bullet point but not a step:
      The immobilizer system (HISS) enters the registration mode. Registrations of all key except the original key set near the receiver are cancelled.
      This is confusing I wonder if this means if a new (registered) key can be 'canceled' (cleared) so it can be used upon as if it were a new unregistered key?
      This is what I'm hoping

    • @ChemaLtd
      @ChemaLtd ปีที่แล้ว

      No. You cannot reuse an already programmed key. There is a "secret" that the motorcycle programs into the key transponder, that only the ECU and the transponder knows. So a key from a different motorcycle would have a different secret.

I expect if it has a hiss system then it would do. Do you have the original user manual and service book etc? Is there a tag or sticker in there? I would expect Honda should be able to sort it, alternatively, keep an eye out for a used hiss and key set on eBay??

    • @ChemaLtd
      @ChemaLtd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Key codes are only for the mechanical part (the key itself). The immobilizer system is separate. Maybe you can find a set of ECU/CDI and locks, or you can send the ECU/CDI to an specialist and get a transponder coded that would start the bike. After that, make sure you keep at least one spare!

    • @jimwyer4257
      @jimwyer4257 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any decent locksmith will be able to pick your lock and from that deduce the correct pin out and use that to cut a key. After that, I suspect a trip to the stealer to reprogram that newly cut key, because the process documented here starts with one programmed key, which you don’t have. Also, see if they can unprogramme any existing keys so the sub human that took your key can’t use it. My locksmith made a new key for my used transit. He asked if I wanted the 5 existing keys unprogrammed, I only owned one, so it was a YES from me.

      Hi Gerard. No ECU code, he told me the key code. He can tell this from the key design. 👍🏻 no need for an ECU code.

      Afraid not. I can only guess it would be around the same place as my bike? It should be wherever the crank position sensor plugs in. Hope you find it!!

    • @TheBockoboda
      @TheBockoboda 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1/4w (250mW) is ok, 12V over 1k give 144mW total dissipation. So you can use 100W if you want but minimum is 1/4W :). And when you disconnect +12V wire, put it on battery negative for 5sec an then again to +12V to avoid trying 5 time like in video :)

    • @beanosgarage9606
      @beanosgarage9606  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don’t have any keys at all then it’s a visit to the dealer I am afraid as you need at least one working key to programme a duplicate. Programming aside, If you have the key code (possibly in your purchase docs) you can contact a key cutter and they will be able to cut you one. It will not start the bike until programmed though.

    • @ChemaLtd
      @ChemaLtd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you lose all keys, the dealer would have to change the ECU/CDI and all the locks, probably around the £900 mark.
      Specialized locksmiths would pick your lock, decode it, cut a hole in your ECU/CDI case and program a new transponder directly there. Would be cheaper than a new ECU/CDI from the dealer, but probably you will be looking north of £300.

      Does this work with coding a single key to a new ECU?

    • @posborn321
      @posborn321 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or for example, I've put a new barrel on, with the old ECU can I use it to reprogram the key that were used with the new barrel.
      So basically what I want to do is reprogram a key that was registered to another ECU to the original ECU.

    • @posborn321
      @posborn321 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I fear I won't be able to turn on the ignition then though will I, maybe I can bolt off the wiring and hiss and have them separate to get the bike to turn on and read the key to turn on propely. Then do this, then hold the other key new it and see if I can reprogram it to the old ECU and new barrel?
      Sorry if this Is confusing it is for me too

    • @ChemaLtd
      @ChemaLtd ปีที่แล้ว

      If you separate the ring antenna and the ignition switch, you can pull a switcheroo (switch the ignition with the new barrel key but put the old ECU key on the antenna) and set the ECU into learning mode, but you won't be able to program a key from another motorcycle. You will need a new transponder :)
