That’s nice man I hope to get a protein skimmer soon I heard they work wonders. I just have a sump I made out of a hang on filter and a big canister filter.
Great video, thanks for sharing. Your tank is testament to your hard work and knowledge... its beautifully balanced and what all all nanos should aspire to be.
Beautiful tank and very well explained...believe it or not apart from Nopox dosing i am running the exact same method as you to control no3 and po4 on my lagoon 50....likewise i have been seeing low nitrates and phosphates as well...i second your comment about Chaeto Reactor it by far has exceeded my expectations either not to mention healthy growth of chaeto eliminating any nuisance algae growth in there....
Have a nano and I don't run a skimmer because it is almost pointless on a nano to have one. Water changes are the cheapest and easiest way to export Nitrogen and Phosphates on a nano. You don't need a ton of equipment. If your Nitrates are at 20 ppm and you want them at 10 ppm you simply do a 50% water change. If you want them at 5 you simply do another 50% water change. If your Nitrogen is at 5ppm on a nano and you are doing weekly 10-20% water changes, your Nitrogen levels will remain pretty constant as long as you are not overfeeding and overstocking the tank. You can easily calculate exactly how much you need to change each week. I actually do two smaller changes a week that total a 25% weekly water change. Each change is 1 1/2 gallons of water on my nano and it takes only a few minutes to do while keeping everything stable always. The water column is being completely turned over each month. Also, love my Fighting Conce for turning over the sandbed. Best damn cleaner there is. I run ultra ultra high capacity Aqua Vitro GFO and the stuff is amazing.
Did you ever have issues with your cheato reactor and do you prefer the reactor or the setup you have in your sump? Trying to add cheato to my tank.. Thank you in advance.
With total water volume of 75 gal (sump) and Main display of 50 gal. I have been using Chemipure (since a won some on instagram) and been using. But for me it's a Refugium, a good protein skimmer, mariepure blocks, running filter socks. Nitrates are at 0-5ppm, then Nitrites and Ammonia are always at zero
Used cheato ractor for a while, worked good at start... then it stoped growing and got covered with red-green slime and cheato start diying. And cleaning an maintaining was a mess... now i pulled it out so far all good.
Nice video. I would also add if there is a side effect to 0 nitrates and 0 phosphates that is, a reduced tolerance to alkalinity swings. Particularly in SPS dominant tanks.
Have you ever had "Really Bad Gases" or just read about them? I had read about them, decades ago, but in reality never found any release of "really bad gasses" so I think they're a myth. Theoretically maybe they could be there but never in practice over 50 years and dozens of tanks. In the past I did do sand stirring in some tanks and not in others and occasionally in others. I'm working on designing a much larger tank and want a sand bed both in the tank and in the refugium but I don't plan to be stirring as that won't be practical so I'm looking to maximize stand stirring critters. I've also been reading a lot about the various ways that people are succeeding, and failing. There are a lot of people who succeed with sand bottoms, with bare bottoms, with skimmers, without skimmers, with refugiums, without refugiums, with cheato reactors, without... Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any good scientific statistically significant study comparing the whole matrix of options. Most information is merely anecdotal. Nice tank. I like your setup. Nice colors.
I trie to use my Rowa Phos in my reactor, I watched vides on how to do it, I made 3 gallons of RO water, I placed the pump and the reactor in a bucket and aimed the exhaust in another bucket. It used the 3 gallons of water, I placed the reactor in my tank and it still dumped red dust all over my tank, for me it is too much of a PITA to use.
So I know every tank is different but just out of curiosity cuz your tank obviously looks amazing and you said you keep some nitrates....what level of nitrates is your range you keep it at?
Just make your own sump it’s easy there’s videos you can just use a hang on filter. I run de-nitrate, nitrate filter pads, bio media, and chateo. You’ll save money and it works, ohh and I have a big canister filter I’m running a bio sponge, bio media, carbon, and filter floss. Keep up with water changes and thoroughly clean. My nitrates are always under 0.5 and nitrites 0 I have a 40 gallon.
The faster the cheato grows the faster it removes elements. We have learned that with the right light it's a totally tunable system. If you understand how it works fully
Great Video, so having some issues and using your methods. Yep using Api reef for phosphate 1.0 no nitrates. I will invest in hanna checker phosphate, I have phosphates as have green to brown algae on rocks. Been using rowaphos in bag and media reactor along with carbon. Using protein skimmer, floss and filter socks, uv sterilizer. I started dosing red sea nopox 1m per day for 4 days and noticed alot being pulled out of protein skimmer and my socks more dirty. Does this mean it's working. I'm feeding corals ans under dosing the npox to slowly 🐌make changes to reduce the phosphate/ algae off rocks. Any advice for me System sump e260 litre redsea
What the name of that phosphate reactor? Do you think it can fit in an overhanging refugium? Is it easy to use, I have really high phosphate and need to reduce it
I had a sand sifting Goby like the one in your video and it just kept piling the sand up over my rocks and corals, so I got rid of it a purchased another one, guess what ? It did exactly the same, so I had to get rid of that one too, so now I have to vac my sand every week which is a real chore, any suggestions of another type of sand sifting Goby ?
i am trying to get rid of all these micro bubbles in my tank.. i am trying to get the surface moving live yours in this video by aiming my pump closer to the surface but it keeps creating bubbles from the movement of the surface... any ideas? i cant get rid of this dam surface dust and microbubbles its driving me crazy .. i have a 15 gallon waterbox peninsula
Hi I am trying hard now to take my nitrates up, its at zero, I have removed the filter sock and turned off the skimmer, how do I stop it at 4. Or 5.. I am new all this, the tanks has corals only 3...and 10 fish..5ft tank..
APN Films just throw a ball of chaeto in your sump where it gets flow and can grow and slap a light over it, you can really go cheap and simple with this.
Believe or not I’ve been fighting to increase my po4 for the last 2 weeks due to my sump and shaeto algae corals bleaching i even stop using my skimmer phosphate ist real serious part in the reef 🤦♂️
Shawn Mayer get a fighting conche snail it will do a just as good a job as the goby but won’t cover ur corals with sand I’ve had both and my conche wins
I wont use red sea test kits ever. The ones i had were either old or just off . I dont care they were all over the place, most inacurate kits ive ever used and ive been in the hobby for 40 years
You said “do do water changes.” Fitting. Hahaha
It’s great how you take us thorough what you do and why from your experiences. Thanks
Jeff’s Reef Tank all I can do I share my journey 🤙🏼😁
Beautiful little reef you got there 👍
Thanks brotha
beautiful eco-system nice job
That’s nice man I hope to get a protein skimmer soon I heard they work wonders. I just have a sump I made out of a hang on filter and a big canister filter.
That light gives an amazing color
Szells Zoanthids radions are the best for sure 🤙🏼🖤
Great video, thanks for sharing. Your tank is testament to your hard work and knowledge... its beautifully balanced and what all all nanos should aspire to be.
HI. thanks for great video. Can you tell me please what cheto reactor are you using? Thanks
Awesome video. How do you use both gfo media if you do?
Beautiful tank and very well explained...believe it or not apart from Nopox dosing i am running the exact same method as you to control no3 and po4 on my lagoon 50....likewise i have been seeing low nitrates and phosphates as well...i second your comment about Chaeto Reactor it by far has exceeded my expectations either not to mention healthy growth of chaeto eliminating any nuisance algae growth in there....
Ash ya chaeto reactor is surely the future. Why waste all the real estate with refugiums.
Red coris wrasse is one off my all time favorite fish
Wow, ur tank has amazing color. One of my favorites

mitian thanks :) glad you enjoyed. Hopefully I earned your SUB :)
Hey Ihave been following for a long long time!
mitian appreciate the love
Amazing video
Great video, watch the hole thing. I'm in the same line has you with your comments/observation. I use the same product or similar.
Thank you for the great informative video. Well planned and presentation.
Wayne Scott thanks glad you enjoyed it!
Should I be checking for ammonia level or phosphate level? And why please?
Hi, great video ! One question, where did you get that tubing holder for 8 lines? thanks in advance !
That scoly you have looks stunning. 👍
Did you ever have issues with your cheato reactor and do you prefer the reactor or the setup you have in your sump? Trying to add cheato to my tank..

Do you run the chaeto 24/7 or just through the night.
Nice video. I would also add if there is a side effect to 0 nitrates and 0 phosphates that is, a reduced tolerance to alkalinity swings. Particularly in SPS dominant tanks.
Beautiful tank
Krishna Karkera thanks a lot ;)

How did you make your chaeto reactor? Or did you buy that one?
Great video! Just started my Nuvo 40!
Copeland2220 you will love that nuvo!! I have a video here on how I made it. Step by step 🤙🏼😊
EAT SLEEP Reef wheres the chaeto vid.
Awesome video!!! You prefer pond matrix over marine pure?
Killer Reef yes I like the size and density of pond.
The important thing is how much porous the media is and how the material of it will affect the parameter of the water.
Hi, I presume the numerous white tubes behind the aquarium in the centre are dosing tubes. Can you please give more details?
what gfo reactor & chaeto reactor do you use?
So I know every tank is different but just out of curiosity cuz your tank obviously looks amazing and you said you keep some nitrates....what level of nitrates is your range you keep it at?
Where did u get chaeto reactor??? I have a 28.2 waterbox aio and having high nitrates thanks

I like algae scrubbers more but there's no difference I suppose. I just like the idea of not buying Chaeto hehe.
N03 is right but NO4 isn't. It's PO4 dude. Nice tank coloration btw.
The faster the cheato grows the faster it removes elements. We have learned that with the right light it's a totally tunable system. If you understand how it works fully
Great looking tank! Can you tell me what the green is at top back panel of your tank?
Mike Ginani GSP green star polyp easy to keep coral and would turn into a pest if it all rocks are connected
Sorry may have missed it but what are you running your nitrates at.
Hi loving your videos, what lights are you using? must say your tank looks great :)
Thanks!! Radion lights
If you could, please do a comparison video on the aquamaxx hob 1.5 and the cad lights pls-50 elite v2
Michael Birch will have that coming. :)
Great Presentation

What camera do you use to film?
Also do you use a filter? Thank you in advance 😊🇦🇺
GFO is not effect on Chito?
What the name of that phosphate reactor? Do you think it can fit in an overhanging refugium? Is it easy to use, I have really high phosphate and need to reduce it
Where can I buy the cheato rector? Looks like DIY but a lot slimmer than what I typically see online. Please elaborate on the cheato reactor.
The reactor wAs the one that was given away for free at 2017 reefapalooza. I forget the brand
I have the same light and tank as you and was curious what are you running your intesity at on your radions thanks
I run the coral lab ab+ at 65% overall intensity.
How much time you are using cheato reactor? does it still grows well?
I noticed in your "how I started " video that you had a cleaner shrimp. Do you have any inverts in your tank now ? Why's your thinking on that?
My hawk fish ate it. But I don’t like them as they walk all over zoas agitating them which is why I haven’t gotten another one
How did you rinse your GFO in the minimax reactor?
What kind of tank lid do you have ?
How are you testing your nitrates?
Great tank thanks for sharing
What happened with your aquamaxx hob. I thought that it was a beast! I was thinking about getting one
What kind of tank is that
Great vid! Lots of content there!
What Po4 and No3 levels are you trying to maintain?
i am trying to get rid of all these micro bubbles in my tank.. i am trying to get the surface moving live yours in this video by aiming my pump closer to the surface but it keeps creating bubbles from the movement of the surface... any ideas? i cant get rid of this dam surface dust and microbubbles its driving me crazy .. i have a 15 gallon waterbox peninsula
How do you keep your fish alive with ich in the tank? since you dont QT? any advice in keeping the stress low for peeps who also don't QT?
How much nopox daily? Amazing tank btw
Pedro Pereira thank! I would use 1-2 ml a day of nopox
Your no3 nitrat how many o/o?
Hi I am trying hard now to take my nitrates up, its at zero, I have removed the filter sock and turned off the skimmer, how do I stop it at 4. Or 5.. I am new all this, the tanks has corals only 3...and 10 fish..5ft tank..
Thank you for the info it’s very helpful 👍
Joseana Diaz thanks. Hopefully I earned your SUB :)
EAT SLEEP Reef I’m subscribed to your channel 😁
EAT SLEEP Reef You have an amazing tank and very good information in your videos 👍
Joseana Diaz thanks man :)
Joseana Diaz appreciate the kind words man :)
What are those dosing tube holders? I am looking for something for my biocube 29
Great video 👍🏿
i dig your videos. sub’d!
how do you check phosphates?
What nitrate level does your tank run on?
Is that GSP thats on the back wall of your tank?
Yes
hi there. What you say about my situation.. My Phosphate out is leaked into display. and mixed with sand.(
Hi! How much do I use rowaphos for 50 gallon tank? Thanks
i have lps an some sps not as much as you my nits are 16 i did 7 gallon change..
.
What type of Chaeto Algae Reactor do you use or have clipped on at the back of your tank?
Honestly I forget the brand
@@eatsleepreef9565 have you remembered yet?
APN Films just throw a ball of chaeto in your sump where it gets flow and can grow and slap a light over it, you can really go cheap and simple with this.
is our tank to small for no pox?
Believe or not I’ve been fighting to increase my po4 for the last 2 weeks due to my sump and shaeto algae corals bleaching i even stop using my skimmer phosphate ist real serious part in the reef 🤦♂️
what to add to my jbj 45 to keep nitrates at 3....it was at 16...
per red sea test kit
Lol do do water changes
Man I thought I was over filtering
I set up a chaeto reactor like you, and when I tried running GFO it killed my chaeto??? What did I do wrong?
MP Most likely the GFO stripped the water of nutrients.
How often an how much nopox do you dose?
1 a day
🙌
Low nutrients and not on purpose is a nice thing!
does ur goby cover your corals in sand at all? only reason im on the fence about getting one hahaha
also whats the chaeto reactor that you have?
Shawn Mayer get a fighting conche snail it will do a just as good a job as the goby but won’t cover ur corals with sand I’ve had both and my conche wins
I thought it was amonia first the bactearia out of fishes gut is good bactearia
Use sugar cheap as chips 👍
gorgeous looking nano!!! fish and corals look healthy!!! check my videos out
I wont use red sea test kits ever. The ones i had were either old or just off . I dont care they were all over the place, most inacurate kits ive ever used and ive been in the hobby for 40 years
What kit do you recommend
I dont have a sand bed... crap
@ 1:05 do do water change
