    Best video I've seen on this sight. Everyone else just rambles or shoots and doesn't talk about the specifications. Thumbs up

    thorough review. I'm impressed good job .
    my son and I have been using Vortex products for a few years now and I will tell you we are impressed .
    we put Vortec right up there with Nightforce and Leopold. we own all three, Vortex Nightforce & Leopold products....
    I only wish that they supplied some type of a lanyard for the cover to be attached to the site so that when you flip it off you don't have to worry about losing it and an extra battery, o-ring and Battery cap. perhaps an option to order from them as soon as possible and extra battery cap and o-ring depending on the environment one might be in if you dropped it you may not be able to retrieve it if you had to change it on the go in the field .
    edit was for a misspelling

    I've been shooting my 6moa Venom for almost a year on my Glock 19, probably just short of 5'000 rounds. My only complaint is that the battery cap needs to be tightened around every 500 round. You'll notice when it starts turning off every 5 shot, just tighten the battery cap. I've just now bought a 3moa Venom and I must say that I like it much better. The dot is much crisper, just as bright but in a deeper red color. I now have my 6moa on my gen4 Glock 19MOS, my 3moa on my gen5 Glock 17MOS and I'm thinking about buying another 3moa for my Ruger 10/22 IPSC Minirifle.

    I have no problem with the battery cover. Mine came with the base cover not installed flushed with the base, the red dot was not leveled when mounted on the pistol. I ended up tightening the 2 mounting screws with force to compress the base cover back to its proper position. This should not have happened for a red dot sight at this price.

    Good video, and I've watched many. My concern was, is changing from or to the auto-brightness setting. No one that I have seen so far has really explained it. I notice if I hold the up arrow for a certain few seconds, the dot blinks a couple of time, and I'm figuring this is now in the auto setting? How to get it out of this setting is a question.

    Jake McDowell Has has the sight reacted to the impacts of the slide operating. Also, do you just leave it on all the time if you put it on a pistol. One comes with the new springfield xdm9459BHCOSPV and if you carry in a holster, does it just come on automatically or what. Can you please explain. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    • @michaelholts1598
      @michaelholts1598 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It automatically turns off after 16 hours, so if it’s your edc it’s pretty much always on. Change your battery every April first and you’re gonna be good.

    thanks for the review So, if you leave the sitting on your nightstand for more than 14 hours but that will turn off and then you have to manually turn it back on? If someone is breaking in your house.

    • @donovandyer9893
      @donovandyer9893 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Looks like, and with mine, if it's in the auto setting, and you cover it, it will turn off in 14secs, not hours, and when you uncover it and it sees light, it turns on. Your question is what happens in darkness? will it turn on when uncovered? Good question. And one reason my Glock 43 has a laser built into the guide rod. Push the take down lever under the slide to one side or the other turns the laser on. Great rig, but expensive. I use the Venom for target shooting.

    Nice site. I just wish it worked with the FNX 45 tactical but sadly it does NOT as I found out first hand.
    --The screws that come with this site are to short to use The FNX mounting plates and the screws also have the WRONG thread patterns making it impossible to mount on this gun.
    --You would have to find longer screws with the correct thread pattern for it to mount which do NOT come with the site.

    • @watchthis4451
      @watchthis4451  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, I've read so much about people having issues with screw thread sizes and lengths. I had an issue with the screw lengths as well. You would think there would be some standardization of the screws within all the varieties of red-dot sights. I understand that, perhaps, this might not be possible with the screw lengths, but the thread size? Hey manufacturer's. There's no reason the thread sizes can't be standardized. And as far as the screw lengths, you would think that for as much as these sights cost, you would get a variety of different screw lengths in the box.

    Thanks for the video. Do you need an adapter plate or does your pistol need to be milled for this red dot? I have a glock 19 (NOT the MOS version). Thanks.

    • @watchthis4451
      @watchthis4451  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The way I see it you have (3) options to mount this red dot sight to your Glock 19.
      In order of preference,
      1) You can have your existing slide milled for this Vortex specific sight. Best option!
      2) You can replace your slide with one that is factory-milled for this specific sight. You'll have to research this to see who makes one.
      3) You can purchase a mount like this th-cam.com/video/8QSxdZY723c/w-d-xo.html This option is my least favorite.

      Watch This I'm going back and forth between the Venom and Viper. I have to have my slide milled on my glock 19. This is all new to me so I'm not sure which to go with.

    • @watchthis4451
      @watchthis4451  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +32 icon. Personally, the 6 MOA dot size of the Viper is WAY too big for me. And I believe that you can only get the Viper in a 6 MOA. The Venom is available in both a 3 and a 6 MOA. I much prefer the 3 MOA if you plan to do any precision target shooting.

    I am novice. Can you, please tell what are advantages/disadvantages of 3 MOA version versus larger 6 MOA dot size? It's been about 7 months since you've posted this review. Can you share your experience with this sight? Pros and cons of it. Did you have chance to compare it with any other pistol mounted Red Dot site?

    • @watchthis4451
      @watchthis4451  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In a nut shell, if you get/use the larger 6 MOA version, you can more-quickly acquire the red dot (a larger dot is easier to see than a smaller dot), and consequently, more quickly get that dot on target. The downside of the larger MOA is that the dot literally blocks more of your target. So, if you're trying to do some precise shooting (or distance shooting), the larger MOA dot may block what you're trying to hit - and it's hard to hit what you can't see - and it's dangerous to even try!
      The complete opposite is true for the smaller 3 MOA dot. It's harder to acquire (a smaller dot is harder to see than a larger one), but it's better for precise and distance shooting. In MY opinion, I would go with the 3 MOA.
      The sight continues to work great. I have not compared it to other red dot sights since the others that I considered, were double the price. Hope this helps.

    I love mine. But after 200 rounds my red dot will not shut off on either of the two ways listed. I have to take the battery out to shut it off. Way to expensive to have these kind of problems.

    • @watchthis4451
      @watchthis4451  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Try the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro. It's about the best red dot for the money. And don't let vortex's warranty fool you, you'll need that warranty.
      The only thing Leupold's warranty won't cover is intentional damage. Just don't intentionally smash your optics.
      I've talked to Leupold reps about the 2-year electronics warranty and they said they've never not fixed a red dot or rangefinder that was sent back, as long as the damage wasn't intentional. The 2-year thing is just lawyer-proofing.

      Great questions. Well, I ended up selling my Vortex for a Trijicon, not because I didn't like the Vortex (It was a great sight, held a zero, etc.), but because ZEV (the manufacturer of the slide I purchased) does not offer a slide cut for the Vortex, only the Trijicon. Bummer. Had they offered a slide for the Vortex, I would have kept it and could have answered all your questions!

    • @watchthis4451

      There are no "locks" on the windage & elevation adjustments. There really doesn't need to be any. There is enough resistance on the adjustment screws that, unless you deliberately try to move them, they won't move on their own.

I'm thinking about the Trijicon RMR, but for $600 that's pretty pricey, i think i might get this to play with it for awhile, then i'll move up to the RMR later.

Bummer. Had they offered a slide for the Vortex, I would have kept it.

    How do you think this would stand up to the heat of a AK gas tube mount?

    • @watchthis4451
      @watchthis4451  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BulletSpoung I would think that it would equal that of the more expensive sights. The Vortex has an all-aluminum housing (which dissipates heat) and glass optics (which is impervious to the heat generated by an AK). All that being said, I have not actually tried it as stated.

      Not sure about the 12 gauge as I have not tested it. Although I can't verify the 30,000 hr. battery life, that's what I've read:

      No. Batteries are cheap. Just diarize to change the battery on a regular basis. I change out my battery every January. The life of the battery will all depend on what setting you have the dot on.

    • @watchthis4451

      Picatinny and Weaver Rails have the SAME PROFILE. Picatinny rails are a military standard with specific spacing. Weaver rail spacing can vary. For the most part, weaver accessories will usually fit on a picatinny rail but picatinny accessories will often NOT fit on a weaver rail.
