Andrew, I am a former student of yours and aced my exam with your course four years ago. I am glad your are addressing this question. Many job board listings are asking for the PMP-ACP. My personal feelings are that everyone should obtain the traditional PMP certification as a base certification, it s a matter of time that Agile too will be superseded by another methodology. And you are correct, the new exam is 75 agile question based on the PMP-ACP ECO. On the other hand, the traditional PMP separates real project managers versus Scrum-bums who are really limiting their career opportunities. Just passing the PMP says volumes about the type of individual, they are and what they are capable of, and in themselves, a totally different category of expertise.
Andrew - really glad that you addressed this. FYI - I got my Product Owner and Scrum Master certs, and thought that they were too light and not worth the money I spent. Wanted to pursue the PMI-ACP cert, but wasn't sure of its value in the marketplace. This video was very help; thanks!
PMI states that the PMP is the umbrella for more specific project management areas of focus, e.g. PMI-ACP. They are changing content to be more inclusive - as an umbrella should. For a well-rounded project management education/certification, inclusive of Agile, they recommend a new pm focus on the PMP. If you have been a PMP for some time or are someone who will only work in an Agile environment, you may want to focus on the PMI-ACP instead. The advantage to being a PMP with a PMI-ACP, beyond knowledge, is that the 60 required PMP PDUs are inclusive of 30 required PMI-ACP PDUs. This means every PDU you earn toward your ACP is automatically applied to your PMP.
Many chapters and sections in the PMBoK has it's own separate PMI certificates for getting a deeper and wider knowledge on the topic, for example, Risk Management in PMP has a separate PMI certificate which is the PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP)®, Schedule Management has a separate certificate which is the PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP)®, and so on, If we are going to talk program and portfolio management which are slightly mentioned in the PMBOK, they have their own certificates (PgMP and PfMP), so, this doesn't mean that these whole certificates are going to be killed being covered in the PMP curriculum, I think the same applies for ACP, the ACP is meant to have a wider and deeper look and knowledge into the Agile world, we can consider PMP is the main tree of knowledge which has the essential and the must-have knowledge of project management while the other certificates are the branches. Thank you for your useful content.
Seems like ACP should still stick around for those that have the “old” PMP and want to learn agile. But for those with the new PMP, I see no need for ACP
I really think I want to get both. I am finding that leadership in my company does not realize that the PMP include more Agile and assumes the PMP job candidate isn't familiar with it.
@@elizabetharnold1714 If your objective is to obtain PMP I would not recommend getting ACP in order to study/help for the PMP. The new PMP training now includes so much Agile, that you will get enough agile practice just by pursuing the new PMP. I was considering obtaining the ACP after my PMP, but now that I have witness how much agile was included in PMP, I feel I have enough and do not need a separate agile cert now that I have the "new" PMP.
@@pradeepsukumaran1 I probably spent a cumulated 25 hours studying over a 3 week period but I had a pretty solid base to begin from. Hindsight 20/20, I actually overstudied as it was not as difficult as I imagined. I believe the newer version is easier.
Hello. I want to take the pmi-acp exam to earn the certification but Im so bad a multiple choice exams its not even funny. Its weird because Im a very successful computer programmer. Is there any hope?
My husband have been working in oil industry as a planning and cost engineer with a PMP certification He wants to target IT field as a project manager in future. Should he go for PMI-ACP or ITIL? Please suggest
Hi, what about those who have passed PMP in 2021, and working in Traditional project environment, should they go towards PMI ACP or other Agile certification like DASM, DASSM etc?
Hi Andrew thanks for your time to addres the subject. I have a question concering the same topic i just passed my PMP Agile certification in July 2021 which covers both traditional and agile concepts do i still need to do the PMI-ACP?
I've used it for healthcare. Hard part is getting whole organisation on board and people to change, especially with a much older crowd in the management ranks. It has worked for adding value right away and at low cost.
Andrew Ramdayal - I have around 17 years of experience in software development. I am looking to move into technical project manager. My dream will be to work for big Faang company. What is the best certification for me PMP or PMI-ACP. Also, what is the reason behind your answer.
Hi Andrew, I want to get my PMP certification, but I only have 1.5 years of experience in a PM role. What approach would you recomend for me to take while I wait to fit the elegibility to apply for the PMP, if I want to start getting certified by the PMI? I work on a Salesforce implementation consultancy in the development department.
Join me live here on TH-cam every Tuesday at 7PM EST. I will review a few PMP practice questions and answer your PMP questions.
Hi Andrew, Since the new PMP test is so focused on Agile, would you recommend getting an Agile certification first to better prepare for the PMP test?
ok great .. will attend

Instead new PMPs should be called as Agile-PMP...👍🙏
That is actually a good idea.

Hey Andrew,
I just passed my PMP in May 2022. Should I go for PMI - ACP or ITIL? Please guide me.
I passed my PMP on Friday!!! Was very nice.
Congrats, was it hard ?
Would you recommend getting an Agile certification to help study for the PMP?
Congratulations

Well said! Quite convincing
You're spot on Tarek!!
very well said!
I just got my PMP 2023, and I feel it is useless to take an additional exam (ACP) just for part of the book (pmbok) I just learned.
Seems like ACP should still stick around for those that have the “old” PMP and want to learn agile. But for those with the new PMP, I see no need for ACP
I agree Brad, but many employers are asking for this certification.
By the way, I attribute much of my ability to pass my PMP last weekend to your prep video sessions.
Congrats.
When I took the PMP, it was more like 75 -85 percent Agile questions.
I really think I want to get both. I am finding that leadership in my company does not realize that the PMP include more Agile and assumes the PMP job candidate isn't familiar with it.
I just passed my PMP on Saturday March 6th 2021 and now have this question since the new exam covered quite a bit of agile and hybrid/transition

Sir please answer this question - I did my PMP in July 2022. Now for me is it worth doing ACP - from PMP ?
I think the PMP is watered down and the PMI-ACP is a CAPM of DA certifications.
