The movie did originally get released with a post credits scene, which is rare for a horror movie, and it shows a secretly shot prequel to this movie which is has already been filmed! Definitely recommend checking that out
This is my favorite horror movie of the year I had such a blast of being horrified for the wrong reasons😂 that theater experience made the sex sm louder especially between the old ppl💀
@@SmileyAdventures aye if you don’t like sex in horror movies that’s your problem 😂 I mean not saying I liked watching two old ppl fuckin that was disgusting to watch💀 but like the first two with the main characters I didn’t mind it’s a staple in horror movies especially slashers.
Of course, by 1979, the hippie movement and those ideals had long since died out. The first third of the movie owes a LOT of its aesthetic to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. But, I think this film is unique in that the menace is literally age itself. Two elderly people had sex and it was portrayed as horrific and gruesome. I'm not used to seeing our collective gerascophobia played out this way. So, it's sort of fascinating in that respect.
I loved the soundtrack to this movie 🖤 the actress who potrayed maxine and the old lady pearl played a great part too. I really enjoyed this movie and loved your reactions to it 😆🖤🤟
It adds to the film once you know Mia Goth played the old lady, pearl, as well as the lead actress. It really heightens the movie and those themes you were picking up.
Meh, knowing that doesn’t make it better honestly. I enjoyed Pearl a lot more personally. Just a better story and less predictability. Plus plenty of filmmakers have tried to evoke that 70s Texas chainsaw feel before. I’d rather watch the devils rejects if I’m looking for that
@Panhead3409173092 I mean Devils rejects is just a glorifying of villains. This deals with themes of duality and age, packaged in a retro throwback. I don't see a comparison. But again, I was just pointing out to the guys doing this video that it would have added to their experience and realized their thoughts if they knew. I'm sorry it didn't add to your enjoyment to know, after all I had no prior knowledge of your direct thoughts on this movie to discuss it with you. But I'm glad we can have a conversation anyways and I hope you continue to enjoy "pearl" and "Devils rejects" more.
A24’s modern horror films are on a roll and 🔥 with Hereditary, Midsommar, The Witch, The Lighthouse, Green Room, Tusk, I even like the Killing of a Sacred Deer and MEN. Can’t wait to see their new horror - Bodies Bodies Bodies.
It blew my mind finding out after that the old woman is played by Mia Goth (the final girl) in old age makeup What I liked is that our reaction to the sex scene is revulsion, but the entire point of the film is...that's going to be us one day. We're going to be old, and still desire sex, and our sexual desire will be a point of revulsion for a generation that hasn't even been born yet.
LOVE this movie! So fantastic! The aesthetic, the dialogue, the acting/characters, the deeper meaning to the story….. This one will be considered a classic in years to come
Agreed! Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy A24’s other horror movies but it was nice to not get the same trauma porn horror they usually put out. Seriously though, “X” reminded me of what it’s like to have fun with horror and not be beat over the head with METAPHORS. TRAUMA. GRIEF!
X might just be my favorite film of the year. It's worth noting that not only does it crib a lot of scenes from Texas Chainsaw Massacre it also borrows heavily from Tobe Hooper's forgotten gem Eaten Alive.
If you enjoyed X.. Let me suggest some other Ti West films that may interest you. House of The Devil, The Innkeepers, Sacrament, In a Valley of Violence are all good slow burn films like this that Ti did. He also directed a few episodes of Wayward Pines and an episode of Scream: The Series as well. Oh and it was suggested in an article on B-D that the old couple in the film were based on the Copelands who were an elderly couple convicted in '90-'91 of several murders in Missouri.
A24 has a good bit of horror under its belt. However, they do offer other genres that are equally fascinating. I wonder if you have Everything Everywhere All At Once on your watch list?
NO WAY! I'm sorry but that was a very long, very divisive film and I was far from impressed. It was much too self-important and thought it was more insightful than it actually was which came off as extremely pretentious. Complete and utter rubbish and I would NOT recommend this to review on your channel guys!
Those two moments with the alligator are the stuff of nightmares. This is a good movie, and I was gobsmacked to learn the sane actress played two parts!
Thanks, Tom! Thanks, Shaun! 😱 I absolutely loved X (2022)!!! And I grew up near the area where it was set, so it all feels very familiar. Thankfully, I live in a northern city, now!
Did you watch the trailer for the prequel that was shown at the end of the credits? It gives a great preview to how those old folks became so crazy. If you haven't, watch it now!!
the prequel pearl just came out this weekend in the US! gives you a real insight into pearl’s motives and fucked up mind, i think y’all would really enjoy it if you liked the first half of X
this movie wasn’t “created by A24”… it was distributed them. They distribute/produce a lot of stinkers too but everyone just associates them with hereditary, lighthouse etc. it was created by Ti West who you should definitely know about as horror fans. just sayin’
A lot of people confuse “distribution” and “production” companies. Distribution companies, like a24, are just glorified marketing agency’s that don’t get involved until the movie is already made
@@tylerjohnson6373 no, they’re a distributor as well as production company. But they’re still not the ones making the creative decisions, they just help with funding and resources when they produce. The people responsible are the writer, director etc. unless it’s a big studio that interferes with their productions creatively (Disney marvel, Sony etc)
After seeing the trailer for Pearl, the prequel, I feel like a lot of the holes in this film will be filled, and since Mia Goth also plays Pearl I feel like we’re getting a real full-circle sort of character study when you combine her character’s journeys. But, what do I know, they only just dropped the trailer for Pearl, could go in a whole different direction. My biggest problem was the pacing, and that’s one of those things I think Ti West stans will come at me about how it’s just his style, à la House Of The Devil, but for me I need there to be more purpose in that decision than, “iT’s JuSt WhAt He DoEs.” The next two issues I had were Jenna Ortega’s sex scene felt too much like Friday The 13th VI’s scene in the RV where there is the beat in the film in which the character’s shirt should have come off but it doesn’t and that moment-doing something unexpected-added something psychologically which wasn’t paid off, so when we just see “Sunday” and then the film moves on after all that build up, the two previous sex scenes and even the sexual energy of the elderly couple builds up, to nothing 🤷🏻♀️the change in tone, the turn to violence, is interesting but doesn’t satisfy. The violence should satisfy what that turn leaves us with, but I don’t think it does. I can definitely see some people being like, “yOu CaN FeEl ThE oLd MaN’s ImPoTeNcE,” but I don’t really care because we’re left unsatisfied and if that is the intent then sure I get it and it’s clever, I suppose, but then we’re left to feel like a character that’s not even the protagonist-weird. The other issue I had, small holes peppered throughout the film, like: I could go, “oh, the alligator, is that like a reference to Lake Placid? Is she like Betty White or something?,” but the film didn’t really tell me that I filled that in, and now with the Pearl trailer I’m like, “oh, looks like I was correct with that one.” I found myself making predictions but not because the film itself clued me in to them. I came into this film wanting to like it more, (love Mia Goth,) and hoping it was further from House Of The Devil than I think it was in style and pacing. Etc., etc. At the moment, The Green Knight or The VVitch might be my favorite A24 films. But I haven’t seen anywhere near as many as I’d like.
Mia Goth did an incredible job as both Maxine and Pearl in this. Until I saw the credits I didn't even KNOW Mia Goth played Pearl also! Incredible acting and make up work. I have problems with the movie overall, but it is an enjoyable ride and not "fully" a horror/slasher movie imo. Not to mention they nailed the late 70s feel (as someone who was alive back then, ugh) and the rest of the cast does a pretty good job as well - especially Jenna Ortega as Lorraine. Kinda sucks she dies but, it wouldn't be a horror movie if there wasn't a "final girl" in Maxine, I guess? Either way, the prequel Pearl will explain a lot of why Pearl is the way she is in the movie and considering they filmed both movies back to back I don't think we have to wait much longer for Pearl. I think I saw it may come out in October this year actually. AND we're getting a sequel also (possibly) but without Pearl etc obviously. Ti West said he wants to do another genre of horror for the sequel, and maybe, maybe Mia Goth might return as Maxine.
Mia Goth was amazing in this, playing the dual role of Maxine and Pearl. I really enjoyed how layered her performance, especially for Pearl. Her basically being horny the entire movie speaks to her desire to be wanted and adored by others like she once was in her youth, and is also why she envies Maxine so much. I’m so excited for the prequel to this.
My fav horror of the year! Seen it in theaters twice. The second time I took my 71 year old dad and he loved it lol. I’m a horror buff because of him so it was only right. Ti West is the man! He never pretends to be anything else and sticks to what he knows. The RJ scene was so disturbing that I had to get that scene on the back of a hoodie from the A24 website lol. Great reaction guys!
this movie was wild and i loved it, mia goth killed it playing the old woman, ti west makes modern horror movies actually seem like they're older, the house of the devil is amazing too i completely forgot i was watching a 2009 movie it genuinely felt like an 80s movie
“are they gonna fuck?” At the parallels with the lemonade scene made me JUST realize that’s basically why they have the parallels to hint at Pearl’s sexual fascination with Maxine. I just realized that was reason for the parallels. I can’t believe it took me this long as I’ve seen the film like 7 times at least.
Perhaps one of the points the film was making is "Why is sex between old people "gross" but sex between young people is marketable, when it's essentially the same act ?". Maybe I'm reading too much into it.
That's really a strong theme of the film that gets lost amid the horror elements. Obviously murdering people is not the proper response, but think about things from the old woman's point of view. Inside, she's still the same person she was when she was a young, beautiful dancer. She still has the same feelings, the same desires, and all the memories of what she used to be. All that has changed is her outside, but that's all that people see now, both the characters in the movie and the people viewing it.
That wasn't the boyfriend guys, I think that was the Missing Person on the back of the milk carton Jaxson was drinking from, a previous visitor to the farm I suppose..
Ti West is easily my favorite horror director of the 2000's. The Innkeepers is my number one, but The House of the Devil, X and The Sacrament were all great. Can't wait to see the prequel to this one.
i really liked this movie. note that Sam Levinson is one of the executive producers. this name will come up in the future more and more in movies you will like,.
Haven't finished the video quite yet, but I saw this in theater and they showed a little trailer for the prequel to this movie called "Pearl" that they shot at the same time they made this. Mia Goth will reprise as Pearl and this supposedly is about to be A24s first trilogy!
I absolutely loved this movie. I bought the blu ray on its release day, and have watched it at least five times already. It is one of the better throwback slashers, imo. I discovered your channel a couple weeks ago, and have been watching a few of your videos everyday since then. Subscribed 🍻. Thank you for another awesome video 😎😎😎😎😎
I would recommend watching the movie No One Lives (2012). That is about a group of criminals who kidnap a young couple that are moving cross country, and things get much crazier from there on. That's all I'll say without spoiling. This movie stars Luke Evans.
Ti West is great at subverting expectations in horror movies! Unlike Jason Voorhees killing people who have sex because they're supposedly sinful and bad, SEX isn't what's sinful or wrong in this movie at all! Repression and Denial of human urges can REALLY mess people up. The Innkeepers is my favorite Ti West before this one, incredibly scary, but once again not for the reasons one might expect.
Tye West is a genius. It has that Texas Chainsaw Massacre feel and look. Just a totally different deranged story. Pearl comes out this month. Cant wait for that. Then we'll see just Pearl (The old lady) was messed up like she was.
I don't know if the comments here is the right place to suggest movies but I hope you guys watch Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones" one day. That movie always comes creeping back in the back of my mind for some reason.
I'm watching this movie tonight!! TH-camrs all over said that this is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel we should have gotten, rather than the 2022 Netflix movie.
Find the whole a24 fandom thing a bit odd but having looked it up a good one they distributed is Good Time. Would make a good reaction if you've not seen. Expect you have though.
This is one of my favorite movies of the year. And I love that it can play 2 ways depending on the person and how much they want to dog in. But this is very much a movie about age and the fear of growing old and sex. And it plays with how people react to the elderly and how those desires dont always just go away with age. But it can also just be a simple awesome 70's throwback horror.
My movie buddy and I loved this movie. It was crazy good and some parts made us very uncomfy and others made us laugh out loud. About to watch the reaction and am hoping there is a great one to a certain part.
Cheers lads that was a amusing one 😂Well I'm out of touch I've not heard of this, from what I saw from it looks very texas chainsaw. I will give it a look due to the strength of your review. You should have a look at the other side of the new(ish) homage films Wolf Cop, Hobo with a shotgun. Planet Terror, Turbo Kid Which are in The grind house style They aren't great but they are definitely fun,and completely nuts I rewatched the remake of child's play recently, my 1st watch I didn't really like it as it strayed quite away from the original. This time I really enjoyed it and would recommend
The prosthetics in this movie completely threw me off even though they were decent. Fave A24 has to be Hereditary, that was the first horror to shit me up in a long while.
if you guys haven't already watched Ti West's The House of The Devil please do. It's another great period horror flick set in 1983. It really feels like it was made in the early 80's from the camera style and film stock used to the great score. I know a lot of people think X is his best work but I feel The House of The Devil is his masterpiece.
I guess they didn't watch the version with the trailer of the prequel after the credits? They also didn't realize Mia Goth played both the part of Maxine AND Pearl! :)
I went on a first date with a sweet cute younger guy.. wish it had worked ..but life hits u.. and u don't know what will happen.. just like this movie lol
LMAO I love this movie because people thought it would just be a super porny slasher and yeah there's porn and all that but they're like "let's show horny old people." They still have desires after all haha.
What do you two think about the scene at 14:30? I think it's an homage to The Shining when Nicholson's character is trying to get at his wife and Danny by coming through the door. Same idea...an arm through a door and then getting attacked.
You guys should react to Silent House (2011) starring Elizabeth Olsen. It’s a really good movie with an amazing performance from her. The big gimmick of the movie is it’s made to look like the whole 1 hr 26 min movie was done in one shot. I would also recommend the first two I Know What you did last summer movies starring Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Here's the true horror of this film: old people were once young too. And oh, the lesson is F as much as you can because eventually you'll get old and decrepit and can't do it anymore.
This movie did make you forget it was a horror until some moments. I think the prequel movie will be so much better to see why the old lady ended up like that. Jenna Ortega did an amazing job as a scream girl in this
It never made me forget about it being a horror movie given the OBVIOUS Texas chainsaw massacre influence!
@@aaronshouting588 True you're right!!
I thought for a long time that Jenna would be the Final Girl.
This was our first Jenna Ortega movie, and we are impressed. Cheers!
"I've got an idea for the most terrifying thing ever! What if an old person was naked!?"
Ti West and Ari Aster probably.
You got it completely right at the start: X makes me really afraid of growing old. Basically what the movie OLD tried to do but failed at.

It‘s about aging, youth and jealousy.
The prequel comes out soon about the old lady and Maxine is playing her as she played the old lady too
You guys DO know that the old woman was the end girl right?
Which is why she’s also Pearl in the sequel.
Jenna Ortega wasn't his sister, she was his wifey 😝
I also thought it was a cow at the beginning. Tom isn’t alone! 🤣
i really liked this movie. note that Sam Levinson is one of the executive producers. this name will come up in the future more and more in movies you will like,.
Haven't finished the video quite yet, but I saw this in theater and they showed a little trailer for the prequel to this movie called "Pearl" that they shot at the same time they made this. Mia Goth will reprise as Pearl and this supposedly is about to be A24s first trilogy!
Good movie, fun react! I like the follow up, Pearl, even more. Mia Goth is fantastic. Also, Ti West’s House of the Devil is a masterpiece.
Yes!! Didn’t know if there going to be a reaction to this movie. ❤your reactions Tom and Shaun.
When the old people were doing it you both look so sad it’s so funny 😭
Great reaction, would be awesome if u guys watched the rest of the saw movies, seemed like u really enjoyed the first.
Will you guys ever watch something by David Lynch such as Mulholland Drive or Lost Highway or Eraserhead?
Tye West is a genius. It has that Texas Chainsaw Massacre feel and look. Just a totally different deranged story. Pearl comes out this month. Cant wait for that. Then we'll see just Pearl (The old lady) was messed up like she was.
I don't know if the comments here is the right place to suggest movies but I hope you guys watch Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones" one day. That movie always comes creeping back in the back of my mind for some reason.
"It's not aliens, it's old people." got me
8:09 I didn't know Marilyn Monroe was in this film!!!😃😍🤩
I'm watching this movie tonight!!
TH-camrs all over said that this is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel we should have gotten, rather than the 2022 Netflix movie.
I quite enjoyed it. It had a real grindhouse feel in parts.
Fun fact lads. The surviving girl and the old woman, Pearl, are played by the same actress :)
Love your guys' reactions to horror movies.
I hope you watch Gothika and Stir of Echoes 😘
X was awesome horror film! A24 hit it out of the park, Are you guys going to react to Halloween Kills?
If you havent seen it yet, try The house that jack built 2018.
Planet Terror, Turbo Kid
Which are in The grind house style They aren't great but they are definitely fun,and completely nuts
I rewatched the remake of child's play recently, my 1st watch I didn't really like it as it strayed quite away from the original.
Jenna Ortega is the perfect Scream Queen in horror movies.
Always the basement oh you guys great reaction. Love this movie. A great slasher with an old/elder twist 👨🏼🦳
Old people always makes you freak out
I went on a first date with a sweet cute younger guy.. wish it had worked ..but life hits u.. and u don't know what will happen.. just like this movie lol
I knew that gator was gonna get fed sooner or later...🐊
I NEED you guys to react to Last Night In Soho. One of my absolute favourite recent films. Stylish, haunting and mesmerising
Enjoyed watching this but I have to ask… where did you get that Cure shirt?
Bros do you they are in under production a prequel to X name Pearl ...cant wait to see
LMAO I love this movie because people thought it would just be a super porny slasher and yeah there's porn and all that but they're like "let's show horny old people." They still have desires after all haha.
What do you two think about the scene at 14:30? I think it's an homage to The Shining when Nicholson's character is trying to get at his wife and Danny by coming through the door. Same idea...an arm through a door and then getting attacked.
Just found out the older actor played a few of the main orcs in lord of the rings.
The House of the Devil is still my favorite Ti West movie, but this one was great too.
Would love to see you react to ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’
It’s a strong oscar contender now🙏☸️🌏🌎🌍
Here's the true horror of this film: old people were once young too.
And oh, the lesson is F as much as you can because eventually you'll get old and decrepit and can't do it anymore.
It's not an A24 picture unless you have to ask "what are we watching?" with regret and confusion
