I'm depressed about AJ Styles leaving, but for this segment, it felt like TNA was awesome again. AJ Styles' character turning into a dark hero was the most compelling storyline I have seen in any wrestling company in years. His ascension to the World Heavyweight Championship was more than a year in the making. I really hope he comes back, either soon or eventually.
Has anyone else realized that this storyline is an exact copy of the John Cena-CM Punk storyline. AJ (Punk) wins the title and leaves, Dixie (Mr. McMahon) has a tournament to find a new champion, Magnus (Cena) wins, and when Magnus (Cena) is celebrating AJ (Punk) comes back to challenge him to a unification match
AJ is the greatest wrestler to come out of TNA. He is their greatest achievement. It's such a damn shame he's gone. I'll definitely follow him to ROH or wherever he ends up. Hopefully TNA will gain its senses and realize AJ is the only "Legend" they need on their roster.
aj hasn't ruled out the possibility of returning to TNA. the stuff he's doing with ROH is only appearances. he has NOT signed a contract with them. he's also doing other indy shows as well, but he didn't rule out returning to TNA, so he very well could come back. there were no bridges burned.
For those saying that AJ has returned please realize that this episode was taped before he left and he has an ROH appearance scheduled for this Saturday. Last I heard AJ and his lawyer were still talking with TNA about a new contract but we don't really know much more than that (anything confirmed that is). And also for those saying that this reminds them of Cena vs. Punk realize that storylines like this have been happening long before that and in a lot of different companies (Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon for the Intercontinental titles as an example).
***** ROH now works on contracts, either they let him sign a short deal or he's not going back anytime soon, he's a free agent right now and is booked up with indy dates up until the summer.
It's gonna be hard to watch next weeks Impact knowing it's the last time I'll see AJ in TNA. It's like watching Survivor Series 97 knowing Bret Hart signed with WCW. TNA just lost its heart.
This reminds me of a cheap rip off of when CM Punk returned after Summer Slam at RAW and stared down Cena with both the Belts taking turns holding one up
Not exactly, their version is called Feast or Fired, and the way they do it, there is 4 briefcases, they put each case on a pole in a corner, in 3 of the cases are title shots for the world, tag team and X-division titles, and in the 4th case is a pink slip that says you're fired. The match starts with a bunch of guys, and if someone gets a case, they leave the match and go to the back. The cases are revealed later, and whoever got which case, gets a shot a whatever title the inside of their case says, or if the got the case that says you're fired...well I'm sure u can figure that part out lol.
Because like MITB, they can cash in their briefcases any time they want, but that is the only thing that is the same. It began as the same concept, but TNA took it further, adding a case for all 3 main titles, and then one case with a pink slip, making things more interesting. In MITB, there is only one case, and all participants know what is in the case. In Feast or Fired, the participants know what's in the cases, but they don't know what title shot is in what case, or which case the pink slip is in, they just grab a case, hoping that they don't have the one with the pink slip.
derek221122 If you are aware of that, why did you say "except they're not unifying 2 seperate titles. it is only one, the world heavyweight title. it's just that there's 2 different people claiming to be champion." If the Punk and Cena thing was the exact same?
MrFalliorsLife i know punk/cena was the same thing. that other guy thought it was 2 seperate titles being unified was it was only 1 title. you just had 2 guys with 2 belts and both laying claim to the same championship.
derek221122 All the guy said was " just like wwes unification match" He was referring to the punk/cena unification match. That was called a unification match.
How dare TNA take a play out of Vince McMahon's book? I think we saw this before remember ? John cena vs cm punk, this story line sure looks familiar! And is that Derrick Bateman as EC3?!?!
The fact that this video, which has AJ Styles in it, has 120k views while other videos in the TNA's channel only have like 30k-40k in average tells everything.
TNA fucking sucks without AJ Styles, Daniels, Kazarian, etc. The only talented and entertaining wrestlers in TNA are Aries, Roode, Storm, Low Ki and Samoa Joe who has been held back since 2009. Kurt Angle of course as well but he's not an active wrestler anymore.
Amir Ali absolutely. Especially between 2011 and mid of 2013. 2012 was horrible with this pathetic "Claire" storyline. They made him champion in 2013 but did not renew his contract. Talk about horrible strategic planning ;-)
For the people who've been watching wrestling for about 11 minutes now and calling tna story lines a rip off- there are no truly original story lines any more. Everything is a rip off of another story from years past. To be technical the TLC Cena and Orton unification is a rip off of the WCW unification of the WCW world title held by Flair and the WCW international world title held by sting. Clash of champions in spring 1994.
It's so sad that aj is no longer on TNA. Well, wherever aj, the best wrestler of all time, is, ill be there. So roh here I come. Side note: work on your mic skills AJ. Get ready to fly!
I really really enjoyed this segment. Magnus may have had his best promo in a long long while here. AJ Styles was good, although I get this aura about him that he is just doing to finish off his obligations and leave :(
Seeing some of these old TNA clips reminds me of how terrible Dixie was on the mic. She had the annoyance of Vickie Guerrero with none of the talking ability
That damn Matt hardy heel turn was by far the worst heel turn in history they made up for it last week but my god Matt hardy sucks at being a convincing heel
Rafe Merry lol... didn't say Matt shouldn't be champ.. i merely said, i would've loved to see Gunner as TNA champ BEFORE EC3 or Matt Hardy... don't give out unnecessary hate vibes though... or you was talking to blackstar15.. :p gotcha...
He already left. This was before he left, this storyline is already dead because he signed a contract for ROH and contracted guys for ROH can not appear on tv for any other company.

I like how for some reason Aj's title is shiner than Magnus's
AJ had a plastic title lol magnus had the real one
+bucksboy thats a metal replica not made ozt of plastic lol but you're right Magnus had the real thing
Tyler Mckinney mostly cause AJ had the real title

To be fair. All wrestling compaies have used this type of storyline before. NWA, WWF , ECW , New Japan , etc
I think it was the only way to give some else the belt before AJ left.
Every storyline in WWE, TNA, WCW and NJPW has been done before .
Yeah ,but better cuz it has aj in it

rightfully said!
4 years later and he's a 2 time wwe champion, crazy what a 5 year difference makes.
"Hi Vince"
-AJ Styles
AJ the best wrestler ever. I wish him all the best. He deserves all the success and popularity in the world.
LOL at all the children that think Punk-Cena 2011 is the only time this storyline has been played before.
You do realise that's the first time people saw it happen you dumbass

Either TNA has some loud fans or that's some really good canned noise. those reactions for such a small crowd are impressive
That's the AJ effect.

This just reminded me of how awful Dixie is. Ruined this whole segment.
I thought AJ was going to say "to be the man, you gotta beat the man"
Nah.
A.J Styles= CM Punk
Magnus= John Cena
Gunner= Alberto Del Rio
OverTheHeat1 basically
Rockstar Spud = The Miz
magnus was a heel
OverTheHeat1 Dixie Carter = Vince McMahon
No, Vince has some semblance of reasoning for his stuff. Dixie rushed to the conclusions and the bookers messed it up
Dixie ruined this...
TreyMvZ
I hate that cross eyed scam artist.
Dixie ruined everything. No business being in the wrestling industry
Dixie was the most annoying thing in wrestling at that point
Dixie was the worst that TNA/impact could happen...
Dixie ruined Impact
This reminds me of a cheap rip off of when CM Punk returned after Summer Slam at RAW and stared down Cena with both the Belts taking turns holding one up
+Cynical It's exactly the same. Only difference is that Dixie is mad and trying to rig Styles AFTER he came back instead of before he left.
Imagine had he done it the night after Mania?
Cynical Except AJ actually did defend the title across the world. Punk just said he would
Cynical cm punk was trash. Never won fair. Cry baby in real life. Plus half of this was real.
This is exactly what it is
Goodbye AJ; he was one of the best! Still got his phenomenal DVD from way back when. Gunner is the future, it seems?
5 years later Gunner is at NXT😂
Yikes
AJ Styles vs EC3 is my dream match.
The only interaction they had in the segment. 1:36
What the hell, they completely ripped off the MITB...except it looks a lot cheaper.
Not exactly, their version is called Feast or Fired, and the way they do it, there is 4 briefcases, they put each case on a pole in a corner, in 3 of the cases are title shots for the world, tag team and X-division titles, and in the 4th case is a pink slip that says you're fired. Because like MITB, they can cash in their briefcases any time they want, but that is the only thing that is the same. TNA tried copying WWE ALOT!!!!
Kyle Lindsay and I'm sure WWE copied TNA and other wrestling shows a few times
Ok, let's bet this: AJ will lose by outside interference (like all matches 2013)...
Bro, is Magnus the new general manager of SmackDown???? because they look a lot alike
😂😂😂
Yes he is
Would you look at that the crowd is doing the Yes and No chants. How original
CM Punk vs. Cena all over again
Funny thing that aj styles actually defended the title around the world while cm punk just layed backed. This once again tna did it better.
***** TNA did it better while punk just layed back
gettingbigforskinny Not Punks fault. Vinces moron
Dixie damn near ruined this segment.
Pretty sure I saw all of this in 2011.
Let me get this straight, you got two champions and whoever win, become one champion.. I wonder where I heard that from, TLC PPV...
Aj's not back this was taped a month ago he loses at Genesis and leaves for good.
Here we go just like wwes unification match ....

This is exactly the same as the randy orton vs john cena storyline, two belts, one champion.
It actually kind of wasn't. Cena vs Orton was for unifying two different championships.
CM Punk vs Cena is the same story line
That moment you watched this video a million times and youre yelling at the screen (dixie carter)
The yes and no chant is a world wide common chant now just like when we had the what chant
Ugh...haven't we seen this before?
Yep CM Punk vs John cena
Only difference is AJ actually did what Punk claimed he'd do back in 2011.

two belts but just one champion, one of the best phrases that i heard in wrestling ever
what's pissing me off is that Magnus title run is longer that Storm's smh
I was marking out in my living room! AJ Styles IS TNA.
Great job stealing wwe's current storyline.
