Geoff usually says he’s a baritone that can sing bass. He just did an interview with Peter Barber that you might want to hear. They discussed what voice classification he was. I think the end result was that he’s a butter pecan bass. (You kinda have to see it)
As someone who teaches voice, he is definitely a bass. For vocal classification, though, Geoff did mention something that hit the nail on the head within that interview: acoustic singing versus being on a mic. No, as a pure singer, he is not a low bass, because he cannot do it loud enough to be heard within a choir. However, he can definitely sing with good vocal weight and volume at E2 to be considered a bass acoustically. I would wager, acoustically, he could do a convincing C2. He is definitely not a baritone.
@@johndeeregreen4592 I thought Geoff was being too modest when he cited Tim Foust as a freakish bass. In fact Tim mentioned during the interview with Peter that he doesn't have off-mic power in the low notes, like Geoff. And their ranges are very similar. Except Tim prefers chest fry and Geoff does either full chest or just subs.
@@Stan_S_Stanman, Geoff and Tim are very similar in their vocal weight, range, and abilities. Geoff does have a bit more resonance down low than Tim, however. If you have heard Tim's cover of "16 Tons' (using a computer mic; pretty close to how you would hear it acoustically), his final B1 is pretty weak. This is to be expected from someone who isn't a basso profundo singing acoustically, though. And, in reality, this is where basso profundos start to peter out and the Oktavists take over. Even as a trained basso profundo, my lowest projected note acoustically is an A1. Both Tim and Geoff are very good bass singers; they just set too high of expectations for themselves.
Wow this convo is an absolute education (keep going i'm just a fly on the wall) Tim is the guy from Home Free right? I need to rank up their songs on the list and start reacting to some of them.
I genuinely love his upper range, maybe more than his lowest bass, although that does do primal things to me. But that baritone and tenor 2 are just LUSCIOUS!
How beautiful it is to watch your reactions, especially to Geoff and/or Voiceplay. 🙂 You're right, his range is just unbelievable, and he SINGS in all voices, doesn't just hit notes. And yes, each one of the characters has his own, very specific, characteristics and "personality", and that just adds to the beauty of it all. 🙂 If you haven't already, I believe you'll enjoy reacting to their newest song, "Creep", originally by Radiohead. They did something unreal with it.. So beautiful. 🙂 Thank you for your reaction, and see you next time!
always my favorite VoicePlay/Geoff reactor. Geoff just did a lengthy but thoroughly enjoyable interview with Peter Barber on Peter's channel if you want to hear him talk about their work process, etc.
I’d love to see Voiceplay do Killer Queen!! It should be the whole group, though, if only because Eli would smash his part (have you seen Queen in Five Minutes by Voiceplay?). For Geoff’s own channel, hmmm…. How about Someone Like You by Adele (change the he’s and she’s, but I can hear Geoff killing it).
So happy to see you back with Geoff! First, your speaking voice is a little bit lower than his, so you are a manly man, too! Second, the raw emotion that he portrays in this one is amazing. My favorite moment is at 1:51, he stops, "swallows", and goes on. I've seen singers who are about to become so overcome with emotion that they cannot continue, do that. There was absolutely no reason for him to include that except to add to the feel of despair, determination, fear, and courage in the face of destruction. Now, do his cover of Sound of Silence, then Voiceplay's In the Air Tonight. I am pretty sure you have their Creep in the pipeline.
I've seen this a couple of times before, but this time I noticed that Geoff's hands are nearly still -- all four Geoffs! Usually he uses constant hand gestures to cue himself as he sings. But not here. Maybe he thinks the floating hands would be un-dwarflike! I bet they hand to do a lot of takes to get this level of hand immobility -- or maybe they but weights on his wrists to remind him.
I love all your reactions! If you like Geoff's octaves you should listen to his cover of Blackbird I am now subscribed to your channel because of yourreactions!
The quality of his tones over the entire (ridiculous) vocal range is ear candy. I think he just leaves “Low Bass Singer” in the titles as an eye-catcher…to make his videos stand out from the crowd a little more.
The Dragon born Comes by Voiceplay is something impressive to listen to if you want to hear Geoff and his low notes. For acting I would go with Queen in 5 minutes. The way the members of Voiceplay interact is amusing. Hoist the Colors, and Nothing Else Matters are two of my favourite songs they do. Geoff alone I think my favourite is West Virginia. It is a song I sang with my mother while cleaning our home.
I truly appreciate your reactions. So fun to watch. The group Geoff is with has put out videos of them live. Gives an idea of what they sound like. Keep exploring. I'm a fan.
Voiceplay songs worth a listen: Hide and Seek, Little Mermaid Medley, Queen in 5 Min, Hoist the Colors, My Mother Told Me, and Tennessee Whiskey. Geoff singles worth a listen: Sixteen Tons, Sound of Silence, Blackbird, Headless Horseman, Man of Constant Sorrow, and Ain't No Sunshine.
Have you done Geoff's Riders on the Storm, or VoicePlay's Hoist the Colors? Hearing Hoist the Colors was what hooked me into VoicePlay and Geoff. ❤ I'm so hooked now that I've joined both Patreons. LOL

Great reaction as always. Maybe check of some of the older Voiceplay to see the growth of Geoff and VP over the 11+ years they've been putting out videos ,there are some live performances there too.
For live performances, watch Road Trip from when they were on the Sing Off. A lot of their touring included skits and this is the one of the favorites. They were once asked what they would seeing if they ever were invited to the White House and Road Trip was the answer. It’s not earth shattering in the vocals it’s just so darn much fun. And while it is recorded, it was a live performance so there’s no post production involved. I don’t think you’ve done the piece that they performed with Home Free. They were supposed to do it as a matchup but VoicePlay didn’t get far enough in the competition to go up against them. But they decided they wanted to do it anyway and the result is hilarious. You can find it by searching for Survivor: Zombies versus Hillbillies. Yep! 🧟♂️ vs 🧑🌾 😂 I can’t wait to hear your infectious laugh!
@@janetdwes! Please do Home Free and VoicePlay together! Be aware there are two versions of Survivor -- one in full costume and makeup, the groups filmed separately, and one they performed live on The Sing-Off. Both have excellent video and sound. I'm partial to the live one since the groups got to interact.
As always, Geoff delivers amazing music! Have you heard about the metal singer who has really picked up traction in the past couple of months? Dan Vasc has an amazing voice and range, and does all genres. Sometimes no metal voice used, sometimes a little used... sometimes he'll rock you out of your chair! Amazing Grace, I'll Make a Man Out of You (from Mulan), Scarborough Fair, and my favorite - Angels We Have Heard on High (which is just stunning)
Voz de ultratumba en un principio pero poco a poco el conjunto hace melodía ..se puede escuchar sin echar a correr ..no como los metales del otro día que reaccionaste .. Yes Geoof is as much an actor as a singer. But so are all the VP members. They need to be more than just singers to be in VP. And also a lot of fun. It's my opinion that Geeof should by now be just "Geoff"' I mean, is there another one out there? I love your reactions.. It makes a very pleasant change from all the American accents and people overacting. :)
This was great and I loved your reaction! Love those deep, manly vocals! 😊 May I suggest another vocalist worth checking out, Dan Vasc. Start with his current hot release, Amazing Grace, or really, any of his more than 200 covers. I highly recommend his covers of Bring Me To Life, Toss A Coin To Your Witcher, Burn Butcher Burn, Time To Say Goodbye ... he's awesome.
You missed the low note right at the beginning of the song because you swapped headphones with the other person and didn't rewind the song back enough.
Thank you for another awesome reaction to Voice Play. Would you please do a reaction video to Voice Plays cover of " Dream On " originally by Aerosmith ? Voice Play knocks it out of the ball park.
