I just found the album that I got this off - Loop Select 003: Sounds from Aotearoa. It is definitely Bongmaster, and definitely Ground My Ego. My apologies for the mix-up, I've corrected it.
soooo0 nice to hear sucha pure sound from back home!! given me full goosebumps cuz!...MattC, representing all things NZ, here on the Sunshine Coast. Queensland...
Milld0g is correct, this is Bongmaster's Ground My Ego from Loop Select 003: Sounds from Aotearoa. Sorry for not correcting sooner, but I needed to confirm with my own record library first before changing anything here, and I only just re-found Loop Select 003. It's corrected now and hopefully other people will be convinced now also.
Check out Shapeshifters album Soulstice (great NZ style drum'n'bass/soul), Sola Rosa (hip-hoppy nz soul/dub), Fly Pretties (with Barnaby and Mike Fabulous from Black Seeds'), Tiki (pure NZ sound) and his old band Salmonella Dub (nz dub pioneers). That should be a good start :)
Yes. I think it matters what it is called. 'Ground' & 'Drown' are two very different words. I prefer to respect the artists choice. Tip Of The Day: Know what you are talking about before you talk. It helps to avoid ignorance amongst other things. Go to Discogs & search 'Loop Select 003' have a look @ track 11 by Bongmaster. It features Dallas Tamaira / Jo Dukie - The lead singer from Fat Freddy's. Feel free to educate yourself on things you like. It makes the world a better place.
I never noticed this before, but I was just listening to this song again I heard something new. Go to 3:35 in the video, and listen exclusively to the guitar part. It helps if you have headphones or a decent pair of speakers. Pay attention to where the guitar lick lies in the sonic field. You should notice a distinct change in the way the guitar sounds at 3:44, the second time he says "ground my ego". It's a fairly noticeable change in the way the guitar was mixed into the sound.
I always thought it was drown my ego. But it does sound like ground...i reckon 'drown my ego' would have been a better lyric. Oh well always an AMAZING track!
funny how the song talks about grounding your ego, yet so many people on here are so busy trying to elevate their own in justifying their superior musical knowledge
2021. still bump dis shit hard!! RIP hori / aaron!
