The flightsim community needs more folks like you. I enjoy your relaxed attitude and the fact that you can see how far the genre has come, where we are at and where it can hopefully get to. Without bitching and moaning about the state of some things as they are right now. Cheers!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Sometimes it's hard to see how far it's come when we've had such a catastrophic launch...
Hey man, thanks again! You are one of the first who have supported me since I begin this journey and here we are, a few years later. Thank you very much for sticking around. Wishing you good luck and a prosperous New Year for 2025. God Bless you brother!
Thanks Cli4D! Your work speaks for itself! I'll support your efforts as long as I am able to!
Hi from the 🇬🇧 I agree, FS24 is a major step up in realism compared to FS20 for a person who wants to just fly. I am a retired professional pilot with 46 years of flying experience, and I can say that the overall realism in FS24 is getting very close to what I experienced in the real world. I am starting to “feel the jeopardy” when flying in certain situations which is great. I am fully invested in FS24 and I am looking forward to how FS24 develops itself, and the mods that the fantastic community can come up with.
Do you fly in VR? It's crazy the first time you catch yourself bracing, like when practicing autos, then your brain is like "oh yeah, it's just a sim" when what you braced for doesn't happen...
@ Hi, not yet but it’s my first purchase in the New Year! I was flying the Fenix A319 into LXGB the other day with fairly strong winds, at about 100 feet I got a big wind shear with a big drop in IAS. I arrested the descent and flew the Airbus wind shear escape manoeuvre. This was the first time I had experienced this in a sim. I also like helicopter flying and whilst my Tobii Eye Tracker 5 is good, I can’t wait to try VR for this type of flying. Great video btw.
Thanks!
Just wanted to drop by to say how much I appreciate your approach to flight sim, especially the under-represented category of rotary wing flight!
Thanks for the heads up on the enhancements, too!
Thanks! It’s a great time to be flight simming!
Thanks for the video. I was so relieved to hear you speak to the excessive rotorwash while sitting on the ground with no collective pulled. I really hope they fix this soon.
I haven't officially reported this one yet...not sure if it's a bug or wish list item
I agree, I love the new sim. The rollout was painful for sure, but I'm having a blast now. Looks outstanding! Thanks to you and all the real pilots for helping make the sim even better!
Thanks! I’ve been simming for almost 30 years now…it’s crazy how far it’s come
Beautiful Geiranger, just as real life , even saw my hotel again 👍😉
@Cli4D did a great job representing the area!
Very nice review -although I was a fixed wing pilot, I have come to love flying helicopters in the sim and I believe the scenery in 2024 is and will develop into a new love for the realistic, low and slow, flying adventures. I am from Alaska, and love flying around the Kenai and Kodiak Island. I have been following Cli4d since before Bora Bora and you truly can see the love he has for simulation and scenery creation. I picked up GRFD yesterday and enjoyed my first look at it. Hoping I can entice Cli4d to do some of his magic in Alaska. Cheers and again thank you.
@@Flyawayin2023 all of Cli4D’s sceneries are great!
Ive spent 2 hours just for walking around in this scenery. Its amazing, absolutely top for me.
It really brings a whole new purpose to the walk around feature
totally agree about must haves! ..i have them both ..excellent
...just when I thought the new ground detail at low level couldn't get any better.
Lovely video, and I agree with basically all you say in it. Yesterday I did a hike in the Alps and later on checked the area with the Cowansim R22 in MSFS2024 and real historic weather from the morning. It was absolutely amazing, capturing the beauty of the area and the weather perfectly. I mean why do we want to fly? For me it is to admire the earth from above, and the new sim does this to a level that has never been achieved before.
Thanks! It's heading in a very exciting direction! Just imagine where it will be next year...
Hi, well said. from a pilots prospective. I agree being an ex-rotorhead and now a FW-PPL. Agreed. I can tell you have some mil exp. 100%
@@stewartsstewart1089 thanks!
Great video. Thanx! I am a Norwegian, but I have never actually been in Geiranger. 🙂 It’s a tourist destination, all the cruiseships visit Geiranger because of the scenery in the fjords.
Thanks! Are there any other hidden areas in Norway we should look into?
@@Belatu42Try Lofoten, ENSH to ENLK and more southwest.
Very good point from a “real pilot”. As someone wrote earlier, you can’t judge the sim from us sim pilots who don’t know the real thing. Therefore it’s important that you who have experience both the sim and real world informs us🙏
I must say that I was very critical against the new sim at the beginning because I did the career thing and its current state I say it’s totally broken. I haven’t touched it in 2 weeks and just flying free flight.
If I judge the sim from free flight it’s amazing. The biggest annoyance is the ground effect bug. All the new helipads and oil rigs could be amazing to jump between but it’s so frustrating.
I have been in Geiranger a couple of times and it’s a place that you can’t describe. It has to be experienced in real life.
They have a camping site at the shore and in July we woke up in the middle of night when a sudden storm blow the tent over us. I got out in the underwear and nailed it back in the ground. We woke up a couple of hours later and it was dead calm. The fjord was like a mirror and a cruise ship was anchored like in the sim.
Norway in the summer can be very warm but it can change rapidly.
This area around Geiranger is a beauty and you should explore the surroundings more with the helicopter. Fly upp to Dalsnibba and the fjord over to Hellesylt. There you pass the seven sisters waterfall and eagles road.
A nice route is in the valley to Norways most known switchback road called Trolls Road (Trollstigen)
Ålesund at the west coast is a beautiful place to.
Another beautiful place to fly with the helicopter is Lofoten up north.
That's a great story! I hope to be able to start traveling to see some of these places in real life! There is a lot more to explore in the addons, I didn't want to give it all away ;)
Really enjoy your content and agree with your comments. VR and low down is the only way to fly helicopters in this sim 😊
Thanks! It's amazing when it comes together!
Thanks so much for everything you said . Yes the sim isn't totally up to what it should be but in time it will be . Also as you say carrier mode is interesting but to be honest like you I just like doing free flights around . I feel there are a lot of streamers out there just dissing the SIM to get views . Also to hear you say as a real heli pilot that the R66 is pretty close to the real world one is great. Us only sim pilots can't really comment on helis physics when we really have never been in one . Like a none F1 driver talking about the F1 car doesn't act like a real one .
Thanks! I try to bridge sim and real flying the best I can. A lot about realism depends on your control setup. I have a bit invested to get realistic felling controls. I may not feel the same about these simulated helicopters if I was trying to fly them with a gamepad.
Beautiful scenery and great editing!
Thanks! It's a great new sim to explore!
Been enjoying smooth, bug free flying in 2020! Never been better. 2024 needs some time in the oven. The performance of VR from 2020 is abysmal... pretty well documented on the game forum.
I have only booted up 2020 once to update since 2024 came out. I'm seeing better performance in VR with 2024 over 2020 with the same DLSS settings on my system
@@Belatu42 Yeah, I don't know how lol. And I wish! 2020 is so much smoother for me, and less bugs overall.
The thing about VRS is: yes, if you're a real world pilot you'll have had the procedures for avoiding it drummed into you in your training; but if all you know about helicopter flying is learned from flying in a sim, and the sim doesn't punish you for entering VRS, the chances are you'll end up flying as if VRS doesn't exist.
Maybe, but the chances that a sim pilot would fly outside of the real world envelope are there already and VRS simulation isn't that much of a deterrent. It's good to have, but it doesn't make or break the title as a simulation. Any sim pilot that is studying deep enough to understand the aerodynamics behind VRS should also be studying the procedures used to avoid encountering it while flying.
Knowing my place (so to speak) as a sim „pilot“ aka mere rotor sim enthusiast, my experience with VRS was that the somewhat “clunky” feeling VRS simulations of the HPG H145 and FlyInside B206 and falling out of the sky due to it 😂 taught me “oops, need to take more care”! And since those failures I watch my rates of decent very closely, trying to stay -what I think and hope- is inside the envelope. Even if it is not necessary because a certain model allows far greater rates or doesn’t simulate it at all. It made me understand the need to visualize an approach and it also made me have more fun flying.
Personally, I enjoy sims that try to extend the compass of physical effects. Here is an example: don’t know if anybody remembers it, but in the FSX era there used to be a model of the B206 called the DodoSim. It tried to make as much out of the limited possibilities of FSX as possible but it was also one of the first (to my knowledge at least) that simulated the turbine and the correct start sequence. You could hot start it and it even played a terrible crunchy sound of broken turbine blades if you tried to start again after the fact 😂
Full circle back to @Belatu42 -I agree stuff like that is not needed in a sim and if one is serious about learning real procedures this foregoes the sim needing to punish doing it wrong.
However, given included VRS or hot starts etc, firstly I kind of hope it is pushing the learning curve in the correct direction, and second, as with the power of visuals, VR, audio and overall immersion (where I fully agree) it is really really cool how far the sims have come since the mentioned FSX days and it is great fun to explore complex sims 🤷♂️ bottom line: the default models are always limited, so I am amped for some awesome 3rd party sim that does it all 😊
For heli flying the best places in my opinion are the Alps. France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenja, and of course north Italy. Lot of pay/free well done airports and helipads. Stunning views that you cannot find elswere in the sim. Hope they will soon be converted to msfs2024.
Alpes Adventures has started to bring their sceneries to ‘24 on Flightsim.to
I agree. Beautiful places to fly.
Its awesome to hear your personal experience as real life pilot compared to MFS FM!! Thanks bro!
By the way, can you share what anti-aliasing you're using, plus what is your VR connection mode? (Pico app/virtual desktop)
Thanks! I'm using OpenXr with the Varjo Base software that runs the Aero. I'm on an Nvidia card, DLSS set to Quality, 35ppd
Don't you think the R66 is underpowered in ASOBO version? I mean its the best helicopter released by ASOBO for sure and I love it, the sound is ridiculously accurate! BUT I struggle to keep cruise speed pushing the engine to its limit with a empty aircraft.
I haven't tested "to the numbers" but it feels pretty convincing in the sim. The immersion level is high.
It’s a dog I fly the bell 407 that’s an enjoyable ride
I’ll be happy when SimFocus figures out how to bring the 407 improvement mod to ‘24!
In relation to ground effect, i think they programmed the ETL factors slightly off. At 5 feet with hoverpower when you cyclic back you go back and then rise up in the air, but if you do the same thing cyclic forward you fall instantly to the ground. I reckon their ETL threshold is much lower than it oughta be so you lose lift on the forward rotordisc faster than the rear rotordisc. But then again, im no pilot, and i know that i know nothing!
I'll have to do some testing with lateral behavior, but when I tested ground effect in a stationary hover just going up and down it was doing what the real aircraft does. I have a video planned in the queue with the R66 about the MSFS2024 FM and rotor dynamics.
It is more beautiful in real life.. but having such a nice fjord to fly isn´t bad at all.
It's definitely on my list of places to visit now!
also default helis kick up dust while collective pitch is at zero deggrees
Yep...the new effects are great...but need a little tweaking
My sound in 2024 sounds as if its being channeled through a Jimmi Hendrix wah wah pedal and don't get me started about the non functioning Tobii head tracking......................................
Sounds are terrible yes 😒
I use Opentrack for tobi eyetracker and it works perfectly ..at least until ASOBO fix the default Tobi 😒
What are you using for sound? Have you looked on the official forums?
what worries me are the obvious things like the rotors rotating in the wrong direction. it puts into question how much "attention to detail" they actually had during development? there are so many "small" things missed or overlooked its makes me think they forgot to consult any experts in the aviation field. which i would have assumed was a given for a flight simulator?
I'm sure there was/is a long punch list but marketing and time constraints met delivery. The core sim features have a better footing.
Bro, the past week has been brutal on the game for me. Million hours of loading and game crashes after each mission. I guess Christmas traffic is hurting the golden cloud based gaming.
I haven't seen any slow downs...What is your connection speed?
Let me know when someone makes Harry Potter on his broom
@@PyroDude-l9e it hasn’t been done yet? Usually stuff like that and Star Wars ships are the first fantasy addons…
Very nice content! Thank you for sharing. How did you get the R66 started cold and dark? I saw your post in the forum (after having tried it half an hour to get it started…..damn), did you use auto start or did you find a way to fix the issue?
if you read further in that forum post, I found the C&D start problem to be a control assignment issue. It's just the governor off by default that is incorrect.
@@Belatu42 To be honest: I read it but didn't understand. Cause you stated something about the governor that is off and should be on. But your bindings only show the Master Starter Switch. But nevertheless - I'll test this
@ correct. I have ‘governor on’ and ‘governor off’ bound to a different controller
@@Belatu42 Is this the ROTOR Governor or the Engine Governor?
@@Belatu42 I think I am missing something. For me it does not work - no matter if I keybind the Rotor Governor or the Engine 1 Governor.
#1 add-on for MSFS 2024 is MSFS 2020.
I'm really enjoying the upgrades to the base sim over 2020. Eventually the bugs will get worked out and we won't even give it a second thought.
I am still finding that most planes do not work very well.. nice sim but for me the planes/flying is what is important to me. I am not impressed by the lack of liveries
I haven't tried that many planes yet, but the helicopters are putting a smile on my face
how do you record your vr with out getting both eyes?
for MSFS it's a cropped view of one eye
@@Belatu42 Hmmm...when I record in VR it gives me both eye masks for L and R eye, and I can crop the left out completely in an editor, however if I crop the right eye even further to make it squared, it's zoomed in greatly and loses like 60% of the view. I've tried nvidia shadowplay, OBS, recording in the Quest 3 itself. Only happens in MSFS. I'd love to start making MSFS videos but I often delete my videos as it looks crappy lol
Do you think that 66 is better than the cowan bird? In terms of realism?
They are both pretty good actually. If Cowansim cleans up their modeling and texturing it would be the clear choice just because little things like both fuel levers and guards work, but they both fly really well. Very close to the real thing. I like the pedal response of the Carenado default version just a little bit better.
Ain`t gonna play this until next summer when everything works as it should
Understandable position, but I'm enjoying the hell out of it now!
The Xbox series X is so bad I uninstalled it ! So no addons for me !
I haven't tried it on Xbox. I run VR so I've always wanted the extra oomph from the PC platform.
MUST HAVE bug fixes first
The new career mode and EFB need bug fixing for sure...but free flight is working beautifully!
@ the career mode is HORRIBLY bugged including problems with ATC. And auto pilot
I have really enjoyed MSFS 2024. I love the career mode and walk around mode. I guess some are having issues and complaints but I for one see it for what it is and that's a game. If you want more realism go to X-Plane 12. I have no complaints with what I paid for in this package.
@@LHZX14 I can’t wait to see where it goes from here!
