Around 1920, a priest in the Rio Grande valley of Texas installed the image of Our Lady Of San Juan De Los Lagos in a small chapel, to save his parishoners the long trip to Mexico. The shrine grew over the years, and is now the Basillica Of San Juan Del Valle, complete with hotel and visitors center. A popular destination for San Antonians. In the 1970's, a suicidal student pilot crashed a small plane into the shrine, which was destroyed in the resulting fire. However, there were no deaths except the pilot. The Archdiocese of San Antonio has the parish of San Juan De Los Lagos, which also features the image and several years ago was granted the status of a shrine.

Thanks for sharing this story. I had no idea about the plane crash or anything connected to this shrine.

My mother lived to be 94. To call my brother and my sister and tell them about this video. And to think that we thought we knew our mother all these years. And everything that this video said my mother was totally totally loyal. In her petition she always prayed for her children safety. My mother was always a hermit. My mother and I were very very close. I'm not saying that she did love all my 2 brothers and 2 sisters. But Mom and I were best friends. Thank you Lord for bringing me beautiful but strict parents. In the future I will be making a trip to see her in person. It doesn't cost very much to go down there. $30 on one of those bus trips thru our local church St Andrews. The most beautiful part of this story is my mother and father were at the Virgin de San Juan Church in San Antonio. My parents were separated at one time but they never got divorced. Never. Thank you for putting this video together.

@@mexicounexplained our mother. Never never never. Never had her own home after 1970. After being married for 25 years. She didn't divorce our dad. There's no such thing as a divorce in the Catholic Family..... My father never remarried. Never has children with another lady . . We never never never never saw our mother with another man. When my father died in 2006 she was awarded his social security widow benefits. Even though they have been separated for 25 years. My parents never saw each other again.. never. Our mom was very very quiet. Just like everybody else she had her moments.. put my father was very very strict. Overbearing... But we just saw him as a strict father..... As children what do we know ..what do we know about what goes on between adults. Like I stated before my three oldest siblings were already out of the house.. I was 14 baby sister was six..... But this comes back to my mother's faith. She was the most truest believer that we know. To have the same statue for over 40 years. She moved almost every two years or so... But she'd care what she left behind.whrn she moved. her statue was the first one item held in her arms. On her way to new house .. she would be concern what she may had to leave behind. But she knew true Faith. was going to help her provide whatever she. Needed her new house. To me it's like I've had two mothers all my life. My birth mother. N my spirit mother. The Virgen de San Juan de Los Lagos. My mother is registered. Faith fellowship at San Juan de Los Lagos in Texas since 1958. She said her last donation out in January 2023 about her death....her death of this Earth. Thank you God for having her in your arms.. my brother Juan with her he liked your brother Juan earned his wings in2012). He had died and asleep at the age of 58. And my mother was the one that found him...... She said that she was able to see him take his first breath. And she felt blessed that she was there to see him take his last breath..... The devoted mother our mother. She's with us every day. In spirit. Thank you for replying back to me. I truly wanted the world to know about our Mom's true Faith.... And it really did see her till her last. Breathe....... Thank you for your time. I will be registering. My name. Now. Carry on my mother's legacy. Hilaria Roman Salas. Truly prayed to the Virgin. for protection for her family every single day. For 94 years. My name is Hilaria. Just like my mom. The inside family joke that my father had a son with junior. After his name. So she told my father okay well then I want our daughter after my name n. I want (Jr) to. Also. The Beauty of the world. Thank you for allowing me to give my testimony. Of my mother. Take care

2 nights ago I dream about this exact iimage of Virgin Mary of San Juan. I saw that her face is full of tears and blood 😭😭😭😭 and her eyes is full of Darkness. Just when I woke up my tears. can't stop falling and my heart is paining a lot. I dont know why I saw her but there could be a very significant meaning .

I’d like to respectfully make a correction for the part that says that the moon under the Blessed Virgin Mary’s feet is used as an “unconscious tribute” to a moon goddess. The reason Catholic art depicts the moon under Our Lady’s feet comes from the book of Revelation: “And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars” (Rev 12:1). The Virgin Mary is the “woman” referred to in the book of Genesis and also the same “woman” who appears in Revelation. While I understand that some religions interpret the moon symbol to mean fertility or have connections to paganism, the Catholic Church does not make these type of connections, and especially not in connection to Our Lady. In fact, it has been said by interpreters of the image Our Lady of Guadalupe, that just as the Blessed Virgin stamps out the head of the serpent in the book of Genesis, so too she is depicted as stamping out the pagan gods of the Aztecs in Juan Diego’s tilma.

@Malia Mei My comment was not about color or race. Those things are irrelevant. The important thing about Our Lady of Guadalupe’s apparition is that she came to deliver a message to the indigenous people for their conversion-“Know and understand well, you the most humble of my sons, that I am the ever virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the True God for whom we live, of the Creator of all things, Lord of heaven and the earth.”

@Malia Mei I know my ancestors had pagan gods, I’m Mexican so yes. That doesn’t mean I should be ok with it or believe as they did. Yes, Mary was Jewish, I just wasn’t sure what that had to do with my initial comment. As for the moon, we will agree to disagree there.

I've only visited her once, but my parents' town does a peregrinacion every year. I really like the taste of the clay bricks with her image on it!

May 25th 2023. Hilaria Roman Salas . Our mother was born January 14th 1929. God looked around his garden and saw that one of his favorite roses was not there so he called Our Mother Home. January 15 2023. She had a difficult childbirth with my brother John. She promised the Virgin. She could see the baby be born. She promised to name my brother Juan. 12 years later she has my baby Juanita. She also had another difficult birth. And she probably said that my sister Juanita. My brother John has already left this Earth 2012. My mother rother is there now with him. My mother has been loyal loyal patronage to the beautiful beautiful Virgin. Mom would donate money every month for the past sixty years. I would help her make out the money orders. For the past 50 years. N my family is experiencing a medical emergency. And it took me back to my mother's statue. My mother said that she's one of the most difficult saint to pray to .... The petition that we ask for. May not come to us in the form that we want it to be in. But we have to accept how it comes how the blessing comes to. I've always wanted to travel down there and to see her. Maybe this coming. Year. ... My mother had had little tiny statue that she had fifty years. She would put a little Rose her statute everyday. Respect and love for my parents.
