    I must admit that I'm quite disappointed with the latest version of the Mini Countryman. It no longer looks like the iconic car that many of us know and love, but rather just another generic SUV. I think that there were a few stylistic elements that should have been kept, such as the roundness of the lights, the scale of the features, and the robustness of the fittings. It's a shame that the designers didn't seem to take these important factors into consideration when creating the new model.

    • @deepulse9752
      @deepulse9752 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I totally respect your point of view, but I see from the comments that MINI is one of the rare car brands that is a victim of this theory: people keep in mind the old iconic design and want this design to stay in time. How do you want a brand to evolve and modernize itself if we keep criticizing their attempts? How will it look like a new MINI if you keep 80% of an old MINI? Don't you think that a groundbreakinh design like this one will pave the way to a reinvention of the brand. For me, I love the design very much! Thank you for reading

    • @veritynesbitt8599
      @veritynesbitt8599 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@deepulse9752 When a car company decides to reinvent an old iconic car they have the challenge to ensure the original brand's continuity while maintaining its relevance to the current culture and needs. This is a common issue not just in car design, but in all areas of design, including architecture and product design. The point is not to keep 80% of a design but to understand the essence and to ensure there is a form that continues a visual connection to the original "icon". The new simplicity is a successful reinterpretation but in my opinion, they have missed some of the robustness and rounded lines which are distinct to the "Mini" line. For instance; the faceted lights are too great a variation from it and simply keeping a curvilinear design would have maintained this connection. At least it's creating a conversation!

    • @KengCheong
      @KengCheong ปีที่แล้ว

      The price point of this car is surely gonna be a tough sell compared to the rest of the market. Considering we are now buying a “Not at all what we are used to” mini and the ambience of the brand is almost entirely gone.
      The rest of the feature is almost as standard as it gets.
      Side note: anyone else think that gear/drive selecter is a bit too far forward and not at all where it should be?

      The brand is MINI and the brand has always had larger vehicles (Morris Mini Traveller- 1967). Should MINI remain stuck in the late 50s-60s and not evolve to what the market demands? Porsche, Rolls Royce, and Mercedes have evolved their brands to meet customer wants, why shouldn't MINI?

    A great detailed short review.
    If we take this as a BMW, it is the BMW SUV I would want to drive and the pricing is competitive with the alternatives I would consider. I bought an SUV (Mazda CX60) earlier this year and so am not in the market for this yet. At this stage of electrification I want a PHEV capability, but when I come to replace in say three years’ time this is probably what I would go for knowing just what I do today. This should be a winner.

    Great preview and ahead of the competition again. I love the smoky green but that’s it for the design. BMW need to revive the Maxi brand as this is not a Mini. The move to fewer buttons like heating is a big negative step, even VAG are turning the tide after customer pressure. Disappointing that BMW has moved production of this and the Mini EV from Oxford. Won’t appeal as much to us in the UK, one of its biggest markets.

    i gerally prefer offroaders over suvs and crossovers, however, i always liked audi suvs and the countryman, i loved the countryman. It was a cool, rally looking, unique crossover that was good to drive and look the part and it looked even cooler with x rate mods available. Sure there a few more good looking crossovers like the formentor but nothings looks as cool in my eyes(and many car enthusiasts i ve spoken with), but important, timeless. Doesnt matter what countryman you see, they all look good throughtout the years and the same goes for any mini model. and what does mini/bmw do about that? They take that timeless, design and they fuck it right up. Thank you modern bmw designers, for fucking up every new model that comes from the brand. its still unique at least, but good looks and timelessness are out of the window.

Much prefer it to the mercs flashy designs and bmws ugly designs of the current gen. Previous gen bmw was solid though.
      Expressions like "they are boring or frive boring" are beyond me, it makes me want to ask, what car do you drive?
      Audis of the old specially are charming. They bring the rally vibe due to their heritage. And they look pretty cool lifted.
      I also love porsche, i guess im boring af.
      i could get in more detail, but its beyong the point. i guess you could say, i like sporty cars like the m2 the m4 the 911 the mx5 etc. I also like suvs that can off road while being luxurious and fun, like the land cruiser the bronco the defender and the cayenne gen 1 and 2. i ve found that audi crossovers like the sq8 and sq8 and rsq8 are pretty fun to drive relativelly speaking. And by that i mean they are fast and they handle well,while at the same time are comfortable and practical and they look good. And with a decent AT tyre, they can go places you wouldnt dare to put them. They aare not your fisrt choise for any of those things yet, they manage ok while being understated. They dont exceed in anything but they do the job. And i like that.

      @loukasantoniou8054 I find the copy and paste styling terrible. But all German cars do that. You see one Audi, Mercedes, Volkswagen, or BMW you quite frankly have seen them all. They are just so passionless and cheap. And other brands are trying to copy it. But they were the first. For Audi their deisgn langauge and interiors are just so angular and rigid. They aren't ugly, but they aren't beautiful either or unique.

Not getting pretentious, just anti-reflex is quite important to some drivers, esp. with eyes that need better protection. Thanks!

  • @Ahgama

    Great content as usual but as an F60 Countryman owner who sat in the new one, i would argue that the interior material build quality has dropped dramatically from the previous generation. The screen and audio have improved but that's it. Door handles and switches have gone from metal to cheap plastic. Door closing feel has lost substance, door handle feedback has gotten cheaper. The previous dash and door plastics were of high quality and feel but then got replaced with the odd fabric which feels cheaper to me personally. The rear has a much higher and difficult to access trunk entry (shared platform problem). The front end has unsightly hood seams and a stiff/awkward face along with the bad radar placement in the grill. Overall it just feels like alot of smoke and mirrors disguising a lower quality build, taking the Countryman from a well built mature vehicle with classic design cues to a giant toy aimed at youngsters. In a way it is nice but the MINI fan inside me is crying.

    I like the new look. I would prefer they have kept the gauge cluster, at least as an option for whomever chooses to have one. It is a move away from its retro style I believe. Hardcore mini fans will hate it I think, but in general it might sell well. Durability of the recycled materials is a question, especially the fabric covering the dashboard. Rear lights could have been a bit more retro in my opinion, but I guess that would beat the overall shift to a new era as it seems.

Chinese are taking over this industry and are quickly becoming better in it so if you can't beat them just join them and i aplaud Mini for that adaptivity. Like it or not Chinese have taken over in this industry and as soon as we start going fully electric there wont be much of a difference anymore in auto industry since we liked Germans for their technological advancement in creating better performance internal combustion engines. If the Germans wants to stay ahead as always they better copy what the Chinese are producing. By the way great stuff Thomas as always.

Even if you take a regular combustion engine car and just take the engine out you could easily and cheaply put a plastic box in its space. They are not even willing to do that. There are no excuses for that, especially not in SUV with their big hoods / big fronts. It's ridiculous.

    Could you make a video about how new EVs only compensate their CO2 footprints upwards of 100k KM?

    As a big MINI lover and driver of several MINI’s over the years. I had a 2004 hatch, a 2015 Countryman and still drive 2018 Countryman. To be really honest…..they lost me a bit on the overall design. I always liked the fresh and playfull design but this is not really playfull anymore. With this design they really went overboard for me for in my opinion it looks way too minimalistic inside and outside. Also the fact that everything needs to be adjusted on the round screen is a real gamebreaker for me. I like buttons and knobs that you can easily find and feel blindfolded so no eyes off the road to handle these things. Now you need to get your eyes off the road to adjust things, it’s just not safe at all. Too many brands go the Tesla way of minimalistic designs and controls. It doesn’t look like a car anymore. Nope, not gonna buy one anymore if they keep on going this way. Currently I bought a Kia ev6 now and it will be delivered somewhere in April. Sorry MINI, you lost me. Even my dealer was surprised that I left them, he said “you were the last person I expected to leave MINI behind”.

    This is just a very expensive Ora Ligtning Cat from Great Wall Motors, isn't it? BMW was responsible only for the exterior and interior design. The batteries, software, motors, and suspension are all from Great Wall's all-electric ME platform.

      That is funny because I would rather buy that, as the Ora Cat looks great, and this looks like a Chinese car.

    I feel like it looks like a toy. And very Chinese. I dont even know how to explain what a Chinese car is. But this is one. Its interesting to look at I guess.
    At least it doesn't have plastic seats. The only Mini I ever been in was a Cooper. I think the first one BMW made. It had plastic seats. Plastic seats on a car in the 21st century. Crazy.
