A fun song I wrote for my elementary measurement unit to help students remember there are 12 inches in a foot. Also, that their feet are NOT 12 inches long!

(No, not that kind of foot, the kind of foot we use in measurement!)
Now here’s the story of how I taught my Mom that not all feet are 1 foot long!
Mom said, “wow!”
She said, “Woo-hoo!
You squeezed 12 inches in your shoe!”
I said, “No way!
Not what I put!
All I squeezed in was my FOOT!
All I squeezed in was my FOOT!”
But then Mama said something like this:
“You slipped your foot in your shoe,
And a foot’s 12 inches, agree?”
“I do!”
“If there’s 12 inches in a foot,
Then there’s 12 inches in your shoe…”
I thought my mom was mistaken so I said this:
“You see, my foot,
It’s pretty small,
It’s not 12 inches long at all!
Don’t use my foot for measuring, my foot is not 1 foot!”
It’s not 12 inches long!
But in measurement
There is a foot,
That’s 12 inches long!

At least the foot that’s not our feet!
