I am sharing similar situation in a highway in Kagoyong, Borbon, Cebu. As a student in Cebu City in 1966-70, we commuted this portion of the road which was prone to landslide even in slight rainfall. I could not count how many times this portion of the national road was repaired by DPWH. There were times that passengers disembarked at the safe side of the road and walked about 100 meters to the other side and transferred to waiting buses. We understood the inconvenience because we knew based on our actual experience that this area is prone to landslide. By the way, the eastern side of the road is hilly and the western side is a deep ravine. I was already a young professional in 1976 and the problem still continued until DPWH did an excavation on the site only to discover that from 10 to 20 m. beneath the road is mixture of soft clay and water that dripped to the ravine. They dug holes after the excavation so dripping water can be pumped out and piers or columns were struck towards the hardest surface of the earth akin to what most high rise building contractors do to strengthen foundations.
Fascinating, that with just enough english words and good editing, I could follow what was happening. 😯👍😁

Taga southern leyte po ako at totoo po na lumulubog yung kalsada dyan. Lagi po nasisisira. Walang ibang nakitang walang ibang nakitang sulosyon yung engrs dyan kaya ginawan na lang ng tulay. Simula ng naitayo yan, nawala na yung perwisyo ng mga motorista na dumadaan dyan.

Kapag magpapagawa ng bahay icheck mabuti ang profile ng engineer/contractor. Baka taga Leyte at Engineer for Leni ang contractor ng bahay, tapos pavement lang lagyan pa ng railings. Magmukhang nakakatawa ang bahay. HAHAHAHAHA

Hindi mo pa rin nagets? Hindi porke dinesign as bridge ang slab kailangang may railings para magmukhang tulay. Alam mo ba kung para saan ang railings? Mataas ba ang tulay na yan para lagyan ng railings? Bakit hindi na lang sidewalk ang nilagay?

ang municipality of pototan ,isang first class muninicipality sa probinsya ng iloilo ay ganun din ang nangyari....
paggawa ng daan, halos anim na buwan lang sira na naman...parang kinakain ng lupa ang daan.hanggang tinusukan ng pilote ang both sides ng kalsada...pero pati pilote ay kinain na rin ng lupa..halos isa at kalahating palapag na building ang
pagbaba ng lupa...hanggang ngayon hindi na nagamit ang kalsada.sa acces/temporary road na lang dumadaan ang mga sasakyan....
kahit mga engineer ng dating administrasyong aquino ay hindi nabigyang solosyon ang problema...sa mga engineer(kuno) na mga dds jan, baka may design kayo ng kalsada na di katulad ng sa leyte para di na kailangan ng tulay, mag share sana kayo ng kaalaman nyo...
Sa totoo lng, lagi po nasisira yan tuwing umuulang ng malakas, simula ng ginawa yan ganyang yung style, tumibay talaga sya at never na nsisira kahit dumaan yung npka lakas ng ulan o bagyo... Effective naman
Dapat lng po mas matibay po ito tulay dahil ung pinaka slab nito ay may mga bakal gaya ng tulay at nka patung pa ito sa mismong lupa na hinde pang karaniwan sa mga ordinaryong tulay dpo ba

Compaction of lifts is only done when the soil is disturbed. For undisturbed soil instead, there is a need for soil stabilization. The railings can be removed also and replaced by early warning devices. Also, I believe that 1 million per meter is too much and not reasonable since there are no evident piers laid on the site. If the district engineer can provide detailed costing, then we can know probably if it is overestimated.
I knew this, steph vlogger featured this and explain why this made. The soil is very marupok that's why they made the bridge.

Just like the Leyte bridge, DPWH constructed at the eastern hilly side a drainage canal where rainwater ran through a big box culvert built underneath the road. The bulldozed earth was pushed towards the ravine side and the box culvert was covered with river filling materials and compacted with rollers. But unlike the Leyte bridge, no railings were made on both sides but only drainage canal on the hilly eastern side and the now shallow ravine side was planted with rows of mahogany trees. Today, the grown up mahogany trees not only protected the road from landslide but also served as stopover for motorists who want to savor the coolness of the shady environment. I have no figures of the cost per meter of the road rehabilitation but I believe it was much more costly than the Leyte bridge. Even with the latter's railings, the pier piling work alone in the Borbon, Cebu road rehab was more expensive, in terms of labor, materials, heavy equipments used and period of time to finish the project. I am not an engineer but as a retired former appraiser in a government bank I was trained to see overpriced or bloated costs. I am sorry but as I see it I agree to Engr. Maru Rico's observation. Yes, we heard unconfirmed corruptions in DPWH, but count this Leyte bridge out as would the Borbon, Cebu landslide-ridden road. The similarities can not be ignored. It was a gargantuan effort that we just did not know that DPWH had their heads migrained thinking of how to solve a seemingly perennial problem. KODUS to DPWH on this one. UNYA KAMONG WALA KAHIBALO UNSAY RASON, palihog ayaw na lang mo kastress kay naay rason ngano murag bridge kun tan-awn na siya dha sa Leyte. Pasagdi lang na ang railing kay may rason ngano naa na diha. Besides, the stand alone cost of these railings is minimal but the safety of motorists is valuable. My observation has no political connotations but only as a tool for you my brothers out there to consider accepting it as not a bridge per se but as a REINFORCED ROAD CUM RAILINGS with safety as a primordial purpose when DPWH built it.

Hi sir, just a suggestion you can add some 3d analysis of your reaction so everyone so could understand. Me as an Architect naiintindihan ko while some of your viewer baka hindi nila maintindihan. Like ung explaination ng dpwh wala man lang silang notice board or drawing to explain sa public habang ginagawa ung bridge kaya marami ang nag tanong dahil hindi nila alam ang reason. Just a suggestion. Nice reaction though.
