- This video is way more stuff, not just the brainless act. We get on the right side of Andy-ran-Dandy, we get to see a Herzog ballast train working, and end it with a huge monster M652!

Another great video Kyle. I am a retired RR engineer from NY, and have experienced idiots like that, and it is the most scary experience an engineer can go through. You just can't teach stupid!
I have been railfanning in Bergen, NY on the CSX line and Norfolk Southern's Southern Tier Line in Letchworth State Park and Swain, NY. I agree with you it's a concerning and scary thing. I'e seen it happen before in person and on railcams. Started becoming a fan of trains when I was a kid and got my first HO Scale model train set in 2014.
It has to be more than stressful & people just dont get it.If he had tripped it would have been terrible for all concerned.I dont think its something you just shake off
@@carolynsteed3649 Your absolutely correct, the pedestrian who used the gauge instead of using the crossing to cross the tracks I saw when I was railfanning in Bergen, NY (2 tracks on that line) could have tripped and fell onto either track 1 or track 2 because he decided not to use the crossing to cross the tracks. I could see one of Amtrak's Maple Leaf trains that was heading from Buffalo/DePew, NY to Rochester, NY approaching at the same time he was about to cross. I warned him that a train was coming and he just kept going across the gauge instead of stepping away from track 2 and using the crossing instead. Had I not been there to warn him about the train approaching he could have sent Amtrak into emergency which would have been dangerous. I'm just happy that I was there at the time and that he didn't put a 90 mph Amtrak train into emergency.
I was so mad that he did that to the crew!
Worse would be some idiot racing the train to the crossing in a gasoline tanker truck. 😱
Dudes like , " I'm gonna give this rail fanner some views right quick!"
Not sure about views, but he owes me some new shorts!!
Maybe heart attacks.
Train or bus running in front of either is stupid
13:21 is where the idiot runs right in front of the train. Never assume you can beat a train.
Thank you for the time mark, yes, never assume
@@hnf1930 you’re welcome. I personally as a railfan have seen lots of close calls at the tracks too. It’s not a fun thing to deal with whatsoever.
I was waiting for the splat.
@@delanorrosey4730 it would be crazy if that happened.
Train driver shouldve had his hair become gray for a moment
That cat isn't even running like they're good at running. Flopping around looking like they could trip at any moment good golly
I was thinking the same thing. This would be incredibly stupid no matter what. But maybe if it was a great runner who was running with speed and grace you could say he was still an idiot, but unlikely he would have actuality gotten hit.
But this person looked like a stiff stumbling goof who was attempting his first shot at running.
And look close, he has dress socks on an no shoes!!
@@hnf1930what's bad too is the engineers probably thought you were affiliated with him and filming him doing that as a stunt
@@MidwestFarmToys I hope not
I'm glad you gave a warning about the brief language. Most people just don't care. Good on ya. That deserves a subscription.
I have a lot of young people that watch, I hope it could be a brief lesson
When I was a kid I hung out down by the switch track to the point where most of them knew me. They would unhook from the caboose, while they were doin their thing they let me go get on it to "look around". One guy was going to let me ride up the line to town in the engine, only couple miles, but the other guy said otherwise. Wish I had a camera back then, but it was just life experiences, no need to film it. A lot of the engines back then had seaboard system on them, but now its a CSX line.
Sure miss those times
I'm 72 years old and had the same experience growing up in Detroit Michigan
That dude running across the track brought back a very close call I almost had when I was 12. I was on the track looking for date nails, and I was looking at the ground and the other way. This big ole NS train was booking it down the track blowing his horn. Never heard it. I turned around and saw the train coming. I was by a crossing and never heard the bells either. I froze up. I have no idea how I got off the track. The front of the locomotive was no more than 5 feet away from me. The crew must have been turning white in the cab. I can only say it was God who saved me that day. That's the ony way I can explain how I got out from in front of that train. Never did anything like that again. There but for the grace of God I'm still here today.
How do you "not hear" the horn, the bells, and the roar of the engines?
Agreed like why do that.
@@johnstudd4245 Zoned out and focusing on what I was doing. Amazes me even when I think about it.

I am glad I came across this channel and I am glad you knew how many cars there were. For while the cars were going by I prayed for Hobo Shoestring and finished when the cars ended Thank you for showing this. Blessings.
Mr Shoestring, mercy where is he?
Pretty cool to see those Herzog cars dumping ballast! I believe the language was warranted in this situation. That guy almost met his demise. Great video my friend!
I cleaned up what I said, but I wanted the young people to see how serious it was.
I can't believe what I just saw. Crazy decision. Anyway great video. Loved the Herzog dumping
Yep, I even had to tell a guy who crossed the tracks without using the crossing that a train was coming. I was in Bergen, NY (two tracks on that line) railfanning on the CSX line when this happened and one of Amtrak's Maple Leaf trains was due to come through the village enroute to Rochester, NY from Buffalo/DePew, NY. I heard Amtrak's horn since their are a few other crossings down the line and saw the locomotives headlights about a minute later. He went right passed me, when I saw him start to cross track 2 I told him that a trains coming. As soon as he heard me say that he walked all the way across both tracks just before the crossings started up. That really concerned me for his safety due to how fast the Amtrak's go through there. I normally estimate them going 80 mph to 90 mph on that line with CSX trains going 60 mph. He should have thought first before he crossed, luckily I was there to let him know when he should have used the crossing itself instead of not using the crossing to cross the tracks.
Crazy fellow did not have shoes on either!
We had a tragedy in Carlisle, Ohio last week where a 42 year old woman walking down the tracks and was hit and killed. My buddy happened to be filming at the time and said she got off the tracks onto the ballast then appeared to drop something and turned right into the train as she stood up.
Thx for sharing the cool catches and horn salutes. Glad the gentleman is safe but it was better to just wait and save the scare to everyone indeed.
I am happy he is safe also, hate the crew had to deal with it.
You should clip out the train dodger and post it as a short, you'd get tons of views! Great footage
Never thought about that, great idea!
That person may not be so lucky next time. All he had to do was trip.
You are right John, one simple slip!
That guy must of had a death wish that’s something you don’t do absolutely dangerous
Crazy people, something wrong with his mind! Hold down the 330!!
Sweeeet! Epic video Kyle. Now that’s what people call a Darwin Award.
He was very close to being a statistic
@hnf1930 He may have wanted it to be ( s.b.t) it's not a nice thought but people do that sorta thing
That was really cool, I have never seen that before.
I have seen the Herzog cars in Chelmsford, MA.
The second train, If that fool tripped he would be DEAD.
That was REALLY a DUMB thing to do.
I think it is so cool how they have it all set up to dump
Awesome video! That guy with the stick is a nut. Lol. I always love seeing Herzog trains.
He sure scared me! Love your channel friend!!
wow, not a good idea to run across when a train is near
So close, walking, how much time did he really save??
this was so crazy to watch dropped a like
It was sure scary
Damn that was close, nice catches!
Way to close to risk being killed
That my friend was a Darwin candidate right no way I would ever run out in front of a train I would’ve stopped at the crossing gate and waited till the train passed and he would’ve had to wait a min tops stupid guy
He was walking, no time saved by running!
Sir, I just discovered your channel and you are a class act. Thank you for your videos.
hello Kyle & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks Kyle Friends Randy
Randy my man!
Very cool on the dumping gravel. I have never seen that in my years of living near Railroad tracks and tailgating. Thanks for sharing!
I have family who lives near the Rochester and Southern Shortline Railroad. They carry salt to the Mount Morris Saltmine in Mount Morris, NY. I'm not sure how many years ago it was but I was railfanning on the CSX line one day (2 tracks on that line) in Bergen, NY which also see's four daily Amtrak trains. I was track side and one of Amtrak's Maple Leaf trains was due to go through the village enroute to Rochester, NY and this guy came right by me and crossed the tracks themselves instead of using the crossing. As soon as I saw him start to cross track 2 I told him that there was a train coming. He just kept going, luckily the Amtrak was further down the line but the gates were just about to come down. Still was a bad decision on what that guy did.
All computer control from the last locomotive in the consist
Great video footage, thanks for sharing!

Great video Kyle. As you know I grew up walking those tracks and squirrel hunting off them. Good to see you on here. Joel.
Nice video!!!!! Ballast release was very, very impressive as I have never seen that in real life before!! @13:23-13:27... I HATE when people engage in that type of foolishness!
I like the ballast dump as well, love mechanical stuff like that
That's crazy, what you called them was the right term though
It just jumped out of my mouth! Hope you are going great!
There’s all kinds of people in this world and that’s one of them. Dumb ( *** ). On the other hand that was some good train action today. Thanks Kyle. 😎😎 👍
Natural selection at it's best. Great video as usual, I enjoyed it!
Nice Catch of the Ballast Dumping!

Know some one who used to work for NS told me a story about a man on a 4 Weller that cross in from of train gets hit by the train but somehow he survives and loses his Wheeler
Hello from Hull, UK. New sub. Not a train nerd as such but I I grew up loving trains thanks to my Dad.
Wow! I was almost expecting you to drop some more words then that. That still was pretty dang scary though to watch, so i cant imagine how scary it was in person. Glad he's alright even though he's an idiot. 😂👍

The choices we make some good and some bad, but they are the choice many make. Over 50 years ago a co-worker and I did exactly the same thing. Not thinking the train that was coming was one on many tracks, we were lucky, but I never did that again.I never hung around with that co-worker again either. I now know how dangerous it is do that, I did not get hurt, but it is a reminder how fragile our lives are. I thank God I am still alive. So, stay safe, warm/cool, and blessings.

As we're bothe retired Firefighter/EMS Medical First Responder's, we've been on pedestrian vs. train crashes in the past. We know how gruesome they are!!
Keep spreadung the good word on Railfanning °
Thank you so much Michael for those kind words. Be safe brother
Could someone please tell me how they manage the timing for the gravel doors to close right before the crossing and open right after? That’s so cool!!
All done by gps locations. Herzog guy rides in the locomotive with a computer with a pre determined track layout and ballast requirements. I believe there is a communication cable that runs to each ballast car. Also tells the operator how much ballast is in each car by weight.
Big Joe is right. The Herzog worker rides the last locomotive in the consist. He has a computer with a line layout that tells each car when to open and close the doors. Great question
@bigjoesburgers @@hnf1930 Thank you both so much - that’s amazing! 😃
That guy is ultra reckless with his life. I timed the close approach of this train 4 times with a stopwatch; that guy missed getting disintegrated by only 1.7 seconds! Looks like the train is about 300ft(100 yds) away when the guy comes into the picture and the guy runs maybe 80ft to avoid the train. The guy runs the distance in 4 seconds, averaging 20ft/sec. He didn't look like he was running that fast, but notice that at times both feet are off the ground at the same time. He is running about 13.5 MPH, while the train is doing about 52ft/sec, about 35MPH. Foolish stunt, 1 slip, DEAD!
Thank you for your effort to show just how close it was, thank you Jeff
You are very welcome. I'm retired now, I used to do accounting and payroll, and still enjoy working with numbers!@@hnf1930
GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ! Some people would rather play life threatening games with trains, than wait for it to clear out. You're not the only one I know who accidentally said a curse word after seeing stuff like this, & you will not be the last. In February last year, I caught a northbound B651 with some CP, & I ain't lying when I say that the Mustang driver was FIVE SECONDS from getting smashed! This not only scares the crew, but also any railfans who are trackside. But in the end, that person's actions end up on social media!
I have ran that fast to see the train, never to beat the train.
Ive noticed this in other videos. Why does it appear that the crossing lights stop flashing every few seconds? Every video that has crossing lights, it does that.
The newer LED lights in the crossing do not show up on most cameras, the halogen lights are slower flash rate
Do you think that 80 seconds of time the gate runner saved was put to good use?
I do not think it was, at all!! Thank you for watching William
Nice trains and with the Herzog Dump Hooper train!
Aside from that, I’ve experienced this once (not someone running across the tracks), but it literally is astonishing how people have no sense of awareness whatsoever. If that train was moving like the ones down here in the Midwest, he wouldn’t have made it. The trains I get down here are cruisers to dashers anywhere between 30 and 70 depending on the area and traffic flow of each line.
First time, this is the first time I've ever seen a rail fan channel with a song
Some people hate it!! LOL
I do some railfanning as well. If it's a rainy or snowy day depending on the season i'm my area I normally watch Virtual Railfan's Fairport, NY railcam. Iv'e seen on multiple occasions pedestrians trespassing on the tracks. Their are a set of three of them so theirs more trains a day than a single track. I was watching that railcam one day and this pedestrian who must have been a high schooler because he had a backpack with him was right in the middle of track 1. Not even a few minutes later a CSX grain train came cruising through the village. I always wonder what these people were thinking whenever I see someone walking on the tracks or across a crossing when the gates are down.
Some of the younger people will be using ear buds and not even know the train is blowing the horn! Love the rail cams!!
Wow I've newer seen ballast being added by a moving train; I never saw FEC do this. Thx for bringing this to us.
Thank you for watching
Had the horrible experience of watching someone step in front of a train. My brain and what I saw couldn't jive with each other for several minutes. I'm sure the person had problems but the people my heart goes out to is the crew.
I could not even imagine what that is like, glad you are dealing well with it Michael
13:46 no one gonna talk about this crossing light struggling to keep flashing poor thing 😂
The thing is to stay well off their right-of-way, my daughter is a conductor for Canadian Pacific Rail and tells me often they are so close that they have to look besides them to see if they hit them or not.
She is right, I wish her a safe and long career
Hey man, what scanner do you use? I cant believe someone would just run out in front, great capture!

0n that train with the herzog ballast cars was there someone riding on that car to open and close the doors on that ballast car?
The Herzog employee rides the last locomotive in the consist, he has a computer program that opens and closes the doors based the the rail line program loaded in the computer

I've seen stuff like this a few times out by the public transit lines, there are two transit lines and two freight lines side by side. These guys that Don't pay attention come really close to the amtrax and freight lines several times always wait for the lights to stop flashing, and never cross in front of the train like that...
Thank you so much Clark. Amtrak can get up to some high speeds as well
@hnf1930
The gates come down and the train is literally there. Some of those coal trains are bookin it too. It's plain scary.
But why was there an EMD bell on that CSX ES44DC 5365? It's supposed to have a GE steel bell, right? Nice K5HL though!
I am still learning the bells and horns Bobby, I will look into it.
Anyone who ignores a Railroad crossing deserves a darwin award
For sure, no time saved at all!
I can't believe that Idiot crossing with just seconds to spare to save himself 2 mins of waiting until it's fully clear, I can just imagine the Horror on the Train Driver face when he had to put up with this Lunacy, This crossing is one of the best I have seen in the US giving you plenty of time to stop & wait for the train to pass, In the UK we get about 1 min 30 warning with Double Gates which also blanks off the lower part of the gates, this also cover the whole road & the railway tracks are all fenced in so unless you jump over a 5 foot gate, you have to wait.
I wish the US had more double gate crossings like the UK, thank you for watching

That was just a local drunk
I have never seen him before around here, hope it is the last time
Many times, while running my train, I've encountered cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, and pedestrians tempting fate on the rails. Blowing the horn has no effect on these people. Drivers are oblivious to the train, completely ignoring its presence and looming disaster. I've missed people and cars by fractions of an inch while my 80,000-ton train blows by at 60 mph, 88 ft/sec! ( BNSF Engineer retired )
That must be so disturbing

@@hnf1930 Oh I’m sure I will, have lots of time. Was that a layout you have in the background there?
What is it with the signal lights fading out regularly?
That is caused by me camera not being fast enough to catch the LED light from the gate. Great question
I don't even like being close to the tracks at a railroad crossing in my automobile in the unlikely event of a derail your dead meat
That is true, plus things can come off a train.
Did anyone notice the warning lights shut off from time to time after the guys runs across? Not that it made a difference but hope it can be reported.
The crossing sign is fine. It has to do with the shutter speed on the camera!
Sometimes it is my camera, it has a hard time with flashing LEDs
