Jake being so proud of his quick math 9, when it is in fact 12, is allowing me to get through my morning.
Unhinged quiz with the square resizing.
jake getting 3x4 wrong and celebrating it made me laugh out loud
“Are we supposed to be guessing this early?” No. It’s a logic puzzle. You’re never supposed to be guessing 😂
1. I hate this quiz, the most difficult part is the column three which you need all of the clues very early on to get (Which is exactly what tripped the crew up, column three [and Mr Clean] are the only ones that can be the four remaining victims not adjacent to the corners. Peanut tells you he has a vertical safe person, so that forces the top most and bottom most of column three to both be victims. That's the key to this entire puzzle, everything basically falls into place after that, but it takes every single existing clue and math to figure it out, and it makes the quiz suck in my opinion)
2. On top of all that, the boxes and their terrible sizing make this quiz even more annoying in my opinion, so I'm glad it got raked over the coals for that. It deserves it.
So frustrating watching knowing the one thing you need to solve it and they aren’t getting it 😂
Is 1 really that big of a deal? Like, this isn’t a hard puzzle, only made harder by guessing. Just cuz you have to count doesn’t make it a bad puzzle
Math as in counting? Subtracting 7 from 11 (or 10)? Multiplying 3 * 4?

[ETA: Technically, the Pigeonhole Principle is used repeatedly in this game...but you don't need to have heard of it to use it.]
The box sizing is a legitimate issue, since it makes "seeing" diagonally a bit tricky. I paused the video after seeing them stuck on Mr. Peanut around the 6-minute mark and had a go at it, myself. I felt I was a bit slow on a couple clues, in part because I didn't read the instructions for "see" until I got stuck.
I didn't have much trouble finishing well under time. Having the clue where you needed to synthesize almost everything concurrently (e.g., the Mr. Peanut clue) early on is easier. Since there was so little else to go on, it was pretty clear what you had to use.
The marlboro man clue was just ignored for way too long

Columns vs Rows is an important thing to know.
I don't like that the big hurdle is the first move after the 6 free spots:
7/11 victims are next to corners, so that leaves 4 victims to be in C3 & R3, subtract one because we know Mr. Peanut is one of them; there are 3 victims in C3 & R3.
The Marlboro Man tells us that these non corner-touching victims are NOT in R3, so they MUST be in C3.
The middle column has 4 blank spaces to house these 3 victims, and Peanut is vertically next to a safe person, therefor Energizer and Geico MUST be victims, and either Chester or the Noid (who tf is that?!) is also a victim.
It flowed pretty easily from there on for me ("seeing" means vertical, horizontal, or diagonal)

It should be clear you had to use the information you used...and you correctly explained how to use it. Without something like that, it wouldn't be much fun for many people. As it was, I found it at most modestly challenging, but at least it wasn't trivial or a waste of my time.

everybody else said it but I’ll have my turn too. once you know these 5:53 clues, you know geico gecko and energizer bunny are victims.
there are 7 victims adjacent to the corners. there are 11 in total so there are 4 in the middle column and middle row (because these are all the squares that aren’t adjacent to corners). mr peanut is a victim and he is the only victim in that middle row, so the remaining 3 are definitely in the middle column. mr peanut is vertically adjacent to one safe person, so the 2 in that column (gecko and bunny) that aren’t adjacent are definitely victims.
I think you almost got there. godspeed.

Watching you guess your way through this, despite the description stating it can be solved without guessing, was painful. If you follow the clues in the order that you are given them, it's really not that hard.

Jim is right, there wasn't enough info before they had to start guessing. This was a bad setup from the getgo
The clues that there are 11 victims total and 7 touching corners let’s you know that the top and bottom in the middle row are victims. They missed that
It can be 100 % solved logically. They started guessing because the did not put all the clues together.
When they knew there were 7 murdered adjacent to the 4 corners, and they also know that there are no additional victims in row 3, then all 3 remaining victims are in column 3 (11 total - Mr. Peanut - 7 in the corners = 3).
Since one of the 2 adjacent to Mr Peanut in column 3 is safe, then Geico Gecko and Energizer Bunny both have to be victims in order to reach the 11 total. From there you get more info that leads to the next steps
It can be solved without guessing
If feel like this wasn't a well-constructed Sporkle if you're forced to guess after 6 clues
There’s no guessing required.
You are saying, "I can not see anything, therefore I have to guess", instead think, "the puzzle designer wouldn't make me need to guess, what am I missing." That line of thinking helps in a lot of puzzles (and also life in general).
