The guy in the purple needs to wear a baggy green t-shirt and jeans, and I swear to go he'd be Shaggy.
Coming back to this years after I first watched it. This series and especially this video sucked me into flames of war. Thanks guys! I hope you two are doing well and still playing.
Lol, here I am a year later watching while painting up some stugs. Hey past and future me. 🤣
“My apologies for putting the wind in your direction.” Funniest thing I have heard in a long time...
Dave seems like he'd be fun at parties
So glad these are still here.
A 'DD' sherman did NOT have an 'inflated' skirt. It had a skirt that was raised and supported by polls with a hopefully water tight seal where the skirt and the metal of the tank met. unfortunately the channel seas were just to rough for them and a big percentage of them sank in the surf zone, I believe about 2 out of 3 sank but I am probably wrong about that but it was a high number that sank. OH and those that did sank usually took the crews with them.
Thnx for the vids guys, really appreciate all the help and just plain old fun!
Yo me, haha. Still watching and still playing so many years later thanks to Warren and Dave. Maybe we’ll get a ten year reunion with these guys!
Dave, your dice have failed you. Great batrep guys. Beautiful table and terrain.
Looks fun , and you guys are very funny, heres to you fellas. Livin the goodlife!
I was watching this in my bed 🛏 with a stuffed seal
love this video, fellas! your enthusiasm is infectious - warm regards from NYC
These guys had fun. Good time watching them
"im not going to make claim to it bein d-day er whatever"
Title: *The D-Day Landings Begin!*
Shows what an amazing feat the invasion was.
I love these videos I wish there were more people playing this in my area
That guy with the blue glasses is what we all hope to play against win or lose. He is in fact a genius!
Irish Guards all the way ! hahaha
wud also suggest the landing player makes use of air cover and naval support too
Personally I think that paratroopers should lose their shooting turn when placed due to landing, collecting their weapons and opponent reactions.
Remember - teams that shoot - are not GTG (gone to ground) - so you only need 5+ to hit them, not 6. Also, your Shermans have hull and co-ax MG (so 4 shots each) - and perhaps AA MG - which means possibly 5 shots each.
What an awesome looking table. The images from the "soldier-cam" (great idea btw) looked stunning. I loved all the previous episode, but I have to say that I sometimes missed the heart in this episode. Maybe it was the heat, maybe it was the onesided scenario. Something like attack waves wouldve made for a different story. But I guess not every episode can be better then the previous one and I'm looking forward to the next one. Keep on rollin!
Excellent battle report!
Warrens dice are loaded! 3+ saves every time! feeling for Dave in this game...
I think Dave needs some new dice! :)
great work guys, fun to watch :) keep the fow love coming!
Some serious issues with paratroop rules: Americans landing in D-DAY 1st should have each and every man roll for location of landing as well as each man should roll whether or not they still have there weapons, because over 30% of US D-Day paras lost their weapons in jump. Secondly mortars should not be available immediately for US troops as 1 man carried the Tube, another the plate and sight. They both would have to land together #1 then take at least 1 turn to set up and 1 turn to range and fire the weapon. Same with a 30 cal machine gun. Additionally it was night when the jump took place, so there should be rules of paratroops low light fighting for at least 3-4 turns, then you could have the landings next turn approx turn 5. Paratroops should also not be allowed closer than say 48" from the beach defences to represent how far inland they were overall, not right in behind the beaches.Additionally the Beach defences should have at least 2 turns of free fire to represent getting out of the surf. Also snipers and mines were a huge threat as well and a mine roll should be activated for every say 4 " of movement. So a 12" roll = 3 mine and booby trap roll. Also at least 6 diff't artillery rolls for the Germans should occur every turn on the beach, water or beach surf is occupied by allied forces. This should then represent the real D-Day and difficulties actually faced. Yes it was one sided for the Germans for about 6 hours of the real invasion until the allies finally got a foothold and moved up. That was ONLY thanks to the engineers and the Bangalore torpedoes. JMO and of course History.
Thanks for the good game!
Looks awesome! :D
brilliant game, keep them coming!!!
Cool d-day landings dudes can't believe 82nd were in German territory I've made my own version cause I don't have those military Men and tanks so using this video and my plastic army men it goes well and I love dis vid!
great one
Great video. It's very cool that you do more for Flames of War. There's NO way the Americans can win this, when you don't follow the rules. I believe those StuG's are suppose to be in reserve and not come in, until after turn 3. Makes a world of difference. Also the movement in the first StuG assault is wrong and it makes a difference too. You move closest to closets, which means the StuG can't get behind the airborne infantry and so they CAN retreat.
very enjoyed your game!
Looks like Dave forgot to take double shots when Warren moved at the double.
Regular infantry are Tank Assault 2 - therefore in assault against the StuG's they can bail it if Warren roles 1's. Remember he also have to motivate if he takes hits in assault. You could have easily pushed him back there.
Remember Shermans have stabilisers, so you would have been getting two shots, at +1 to hit.
DD Tanks were a great idea, they worked very well on the British beaches.
wow, that paintjob to the germans are topnotch! ^^
Poor Americans on the beach... "We're pinned down!"
found the comment ,that's a lot of inches Dave. lol .great video ,guess im hooked
My family and i have made a custom game of D-day. although d-day in general for flames of war is a 1-3 day's of thinking/math/FUN!!
Dave: trade your dice with Warren's!
Dave didn't take a tank terror test when assaulting with his paratroopers. The StuG's being next to the grenadiers would have forced him to take one.
love the parascope
fun game. loved it. A few rules missed out but what the heck. great game.
the DD was actually a great idea and would have worked if it hadnt been for high sea. They were supposed to fire while driving/ sailing to the beaches and there were no real need for it since a Whole armada was giving them artillery support.
Great view to paint to ;)
I don't think poor Dave has won any matchups yet. I don't play FoW, but it is fun to watch others play.
Given what GW charge for their boards you should sell "ready to flock" sets.
Serioulsy I buy one spary painted , add flock, paiting details etc etc (all in the set).
Go for Daves right flank on the beach
Good game. Quite a few rules mistakes... but was a fun watch. KEEP THE FOW GOIN! :)
I agree, reserves should be used in later battles,, having played FoW for a few years, in scenarios like this if you keep the entire force on board without putting half in reserve, it becomes really one sided in favour of the defender.
if a tank gets bailed out while it is already bailed out it gets destroyed
Dave is the new star of BoW for me! :D
great board
when the dice love you they love you long time
NICE!
Enjoyable to say the least gentlemen, but I think the dice beat Dave more than Warren's tactics.
I agree. But then... remember... like all nubes... they are 'learning' as they go. But anyway... peah, for a quality vid like this, you would want the player's to know wth they are doing.
nice battle
Warren, could have left the HMG in place and moved half of the platoon +1 to regroup. Also, MG's are AT 2 (but like you said cannot hurt Shermans). Also remember, you cannot assault with HMGs.
I see warren is enjoying seeing American troops getting pinned
So when do we get ON THE TABLE back, i need to see whats new out there
The beach in D-Day stripped from all documents...
Where can I get me one of those inverted periscopes. There awesome
Alright, thank you, it's just in the video it just got destroyed so i was a bit curious
Don't forget gun shields for Pak.
I was told that if a bailed out tank gets bailed out again, it has to take a motivation test to see if it mounts right away, if it passes, if not THEN it gets destroyed ... Is what I was told incorrect?
Never seen a Flames Of War match. Very cool stuff. What is that dice tray Warren is using???
Mike just loves stooges like every battle I see there are stooges
next time have Dave come up with a scenario, seems like when Warren does it. its greatly in his advantage
I just use flames of war figures as toys
Really need to make balanced armies Dave is constantly fighting against un-winable odds
I think that the problem is here that it is the armies are quite balanced points-wise, while the setup gave an advantage to Warren.
YES
Yes you are correct
a fun game, but an unfair game for the attacker, no balance it appears, learning or not I think it should always be balanced for both player enjoyment, though Dave is a legend who is the best kind of player to have a game with as he just enjoys the game regardless, the two lads make a good gaming team though I would like to see future games with a little more balance, maybe taking lists from a book and a fixed point cost and see what happens :)
OrbitPlanetCraft Dude, D-Day was part of war. They had to do it. This is a game and it's supposed to be fair and fun.
+TheCarrotCognag I don't agree. Sometimes it's not about having a good hand, but about plying a poor hand well. This is why I prefer scenarios rsther than points games. Of course it needs to be winnable by either side, but it doesn't need to be fair. If the odds are stacked against you then it's more glory when you do win and on the other hand it's fun to steamroll them sometimes. Keeps it fresh.
This is correct.
Anymore videos with Dave? Or does he have his own TH-cam??
Can we call this D-Dave?
Ll awesome!
Can you do a video or such on how to get started with this game? I love my astra militarum army with warhammer 40k but unfortunatly FoW doesnt have dedicated stores in Holland where they can point you in the right direction
You cant shot a gun onboard a dingey any how...Prob was the dawn Things sank !!
poor Dave just keep on fighting
Warren has his magic dice box, that must be why Dave always ends up with crap dice rolls. I suggest Dave buys some loaded dice :-)
dave forgot to roll double dice against mike. mike moved his infantry double movement to get to the end of the board.
Very nice one. Where was teh allied commander early on?
It could have saved the first lost platoon with a re-roll and getting back from pinned too with re-roll possibility...
Dave, I haven't played this game but if you drive a tank right in front of the vision slit of a machinegunbunker then the MG can't really see anything except for the tank and it can't hurt a tank, right? So if you do that you can effectively block its line of sight and just move your infantry past it unharmed.
I guess you got to be into this sort of thing to be having the fun described here however, after watching 1:12:44 into this game, I am bored as Hell and have no idea what either of these gents are doing, lol. I'm quite sure across the pond this is a big adventure but, it doesn't seem like much fun from where I'm sitting? Tonight is my 1st contact with the game so, I'm sure that has a great deal to do with my boredom & lack of understanding the rules of the game? Good show gents.
Thought I was having a weird sex dream, Mackenzie Crook and Graham Linehan were wargaming the D-Day landings...
Does anybody know where i can get this in the us? cause after watching these guys play it id love to play this with my cousins and friends
Amazon. Or check there website. Flamesofwar.com. Can search for closest store. I recommend buying open fire. It runs around 70 dollars but has the most bang for your buck.
that is true
Fortune favors the brave... so I'll gonna fleeeeee with my tanks... thats contradictory and funny
If you played this game with the basic rules of playing chess, one could spend a brilliant weekend playing just one game, if one was that brilliant of the rules of the game & how to properly strategize. I think I'm going to look into this game some more and check out the rules. Is this game played mainly across the pond or is it a world-wide war-game? Thanks for the game gents and any input you can share about the game. They do appear to be enjoying themselves don't they? ;-)
Would smoke have been a viable option for those MG teams? Shermans shoot smoke.
"ther is a burining stuG... buring ring of fire!". PAINT THE MINIS!!!
\
I'll have to admit that I am just learning, but at 1:07:10 Warren shoots 3 stuggs, 2 are within 16 so he rolls three dice needing 3's....shouldn't this have been 2 at 3 and 1 at 4 (3 plus 1 for long range)??
Let me know if I'm wrong?
what about mechanical breakdowns, if you roll too high or low or roll when fired, there were many in real
7 years later and still entertaining. Missing Dave and these videos with Warren.
