Core Ultra can be really attractive to quite a lot of people though. Its iGPU performance is far better than anything Intel has ever offered in the integrated graphics scene, and the new core architecture seems like it's very efficient, compared to the old Core i3/i5/i7/i9 CPUs.

Yeah, 100% definitely agree with this video. More OLED and MiniLED screen options this year is great to see but with no Ryzen 8000HX CPUs yet and other CPUs and GPUs really just refreshes, its definitely tough to otherwise justify buying a 2024 laptop.
Yeap, and the best part is that I can just buy the Scar 16 2024 panel and install it in my Scar 16 2023 and essentially have the same laptop for around 200 USD.
#5 - Not many people probably knows about this, but since AMD released FSR the community have already developed an FSR mod which give you basically free fps in your old laptop with old GPUs (like RTX 2000s/3000s, anything below isn't really preferred). I know this because few months ago I was searching for a new laptop (a replacement to my Legion 5 Pro 3060 that I bought 2 years ago) because games have been increasingly demanding, but thanks to this mod it basically extended the lifespan of my aging laptop for like another year or 2. FSR3.1 is also coming this year (integrated into some of the newer titles).

If you play AAA games like me you will start to notice that games are catching up with the laptop hardware recently especially my laptop's specs (eg. Horizon FW in my laptop can't consistently keep the fps on 60 average - w/o framegen but with DLSS). I fear that I won't be able to run Ghost of Tsushima aswell. If you play AA or Indie titles then true, you're good for atleast 2 - 5 years more.
what about the new Legion 7i? got new better cooling and screen options. And also at least in the UK (easter sale) price for 2024 model is cheaper then 2023 Legion 7 slim

I have been watching your videos since 2021 and you have always said that the 3060 was the sweet spot for gaming back until the 4000 series came around. The prices for the 2023 model here are bad and what's even shocking is that the older 2022 and even 2021 models for godsake is still terrible. Literally 1000+$ for an rtx 3060. I only play Halo Infinite which it is capable of running at medium settings and high enough frame rates. Game runs well. Heating well controlled. Gaming on a budget. It has only 6 GB VRAM so it cannot run modern heavy graphic titles at fancier high or ultra graphics settings. But still , considering that is a luxury as is gaming in itself, 3060 is alright and I believe need not to spend more, unless one is a professional and does competitive gaming. Medium graphics also look beautiful. If you only have to play games then better get a desktop than a gaming laptop, better performance at lower price.

They are fresh so they cost more money. Performance increase is minimal. Most of them come with win 11 installed. There are no good ones yet that hit that bang for your buck spot real nice.

I don't know if its they use lower wattage, or it just has to throttle more for cooling, but there is always a draw back to being too thin and light when you need more cooling.
@@D4RKCOMETPLAYS That's true, but a 4090 in such a thin chasis is going to perform horrendously and at a reduced factory speed due to thermal throttling. Don't buy 4090 laptops, use a lower powered GPU like 4070 instead.
I got a 2022 Dash F15 with the 12th Gen i7 12650H and an RTX3050 gpu with 16gb DDR5 (4800). Should I consider something with a 4060-4070 with 13th gen Intel? Gaming Laptops have improved so they don't die out as they use to buy getting 'cooked'. But Gaming Laptops seem to have motherboard issues to this date. I still think though, that normal notebooks and thin and light laptops are the better choice for most people. Gaming Laptops have rather become very good, but they are clumsy machines and still niche. More a portable desktop. Now even laptops are old school and tablets and smartphones, and may be in future VR are going to be the dominant devices for the masses. Otherwise enthusiasts still build custom PCs.
I am waiting for laptops coming with eGPU like the Asus Rog Flow. I saw that in China people are using the Lenovo Thinkbook as laptop and connects external GPUs through the Pcie of the laptop. So i am waiting for that to become more professional

I update my laptop every other GPU generation (~4-5 years). I love my Asus M16 3060 and not looking to update until 50XX or AMD equivalent, so that's at least one more year.
yeah, I think some people look to upgrade too often. I have a Legion with a RTX 3080 in it from 2021, and it still slays everything I've needed it to... never felt like I needed something better yet. I'll probably be looking more at 2026 for an upgrade.
Same. My Legion 7i with 3080ti is pretty decent even for today's games. I will probably upgrade when the 6080 or 6090 comes out. But then again, I might have a desktop by that time.
I have a 2023 Asus Rog Flow x16 on the way now. I'm upgrading it with better harddrive and more RAM. It has the RTX 4060. My question now is, should I buy the XG Mobile 3080 version, or just "future proof" and go for the obscenely expensive 4090 right away? Or, should I just wait for a newer version to hit the scene? Hey Jarrod, I plan on getting a gaming laptop soon and I can't pick between the HP VICTUS 15 FB1013dx and the HP VICTUS 15 FA1093dx, the 2nd one is a bit more expensive (around 60-90 dollars) but has more VRAM - a better cpu and gpu, so what do you recommend? Note: I can't spend any more than this
Alright so I'll list the specs quickly, the first one has an AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS, it comes with 8gb ram upgradable to 32gb (DDR5 4800 MHz) and comes with a 512gb SSD upgradable to 2TB. It comes with an RYX 2050 (4gb) around 50W TGP. The 2nd one however which is a bit more expensive is the 2023 model which comes with an i5-13420H RTX 3050 6gb VRAM 75W TGP, aside from that it comes with DDR4 instead of DDR5 - everything else is pretty much the same. So is it worth spending 60-90 more dollars on it or would I be better off getting the 2050 AMD Ryzen 7535HS? I'll have to use this laptop for the next 4 years. @@JarrodsTech
You are exactly right Jared. I have been seeing huge discounts on Lenovo and Asus gaming laptops. There are 32GB RAM, 1TB storage, 4070’s available for $1500 and 4060’s for $1000 (16GB RAM though). Insane value right now on 2023 models
I think I'll wait for rtx 5000 laptops. Since the 4050 is too weak, the 4060 price is far from 4050 and close to 4070, and the 4070 only has 8gb vram, all this while older 3070, 3070 ti, 3080 leftovers models are being sold cheap although with no framegen. Would rather wait for 5000 series for no compromises
In Europe RTX 3000 laptops are more expensive than RTX 4000 series. For 999 € we can have a I5 12450H + RTX 4060 8G HP Victus laptop. For a model with RTX 3060 add 300 more euros. But things gets worse as things are no more logical. Laptops with 3050 at 1400€, laptops with 4050 at 900€.. The shops are making this very confusing, nothing are correlated.

Stay away from oled, and if you have enough to spend on an oled just go ahead and buy a mini led. You can watch comparison videos, miniled is almost oled quality without the danger of burn in.
Quick question: Does it pay to buy a Vector 17hx vs GP78 Hx with same RTX 4080 for around 300 usd difference? Supposedly the 17HX "fixes" the low quality monitor and the processor is new Gen. I don't thinnk there are any other improvements.

I am buying a gaming laptop and i have the Legion Pro 5i 2023model (i7 13700hx / rtx4060 / 240hz) and the Asus Rog Strix G15 advantage edition 2021model (ryzen9 5980hx / Rx6800m / 1440p 165hz) both at $1499. I dont know if the newer laptop is more worthy than the older all-amd laptop comparing merely on gaming performance that is the main purpose. Hi Jarrod, what laptop would you recommend for long term use, I have 2 options one of them is a Lenovo legion 5 pro with 4060 and other is Lenovo legion 5 pro with 3070. The 4060 one is noticeably more expensive. I want to use my laptop primarily for gaming and a little bit of blender as well.
I got my acer nitro 17 at the very end of 2023. Wasn’t sure if it was a good decision because I figured new laptops would come out in a few months and I would’ve just ended up regretting not waiting. Glad to see I made a good choice and I’m totally happy with it.

The only laptop i would recomend is Legion 5 Slim rtx 4060 140w, bought it for 800 euro brand new from store, crazy good laptop for gaming and everything else. Using it with a 32 inch 144 Hz 1440p monitor and i'm more than pleased

They are fresh so they cost more money. Performance increase is minimal. Most of them come with win 11 installed. There are no good ones yet that hit that bang for your buck spot real nice.

@@D4RKCOMETPLAYSThose look nice... screen is great, but seems that games benchmark lower than others with the same specs is why I didn't like it. I don't know if its they use lower wattage, or it just has to throttle more for cooling, but there is always a draw back to being too thin and light when you need more cooling.
@@D4RKCOMETPLAYS That's true, but a 4090 in such a thin chasis is going to perform horrendously and at a reduced factory speed due to thermal throttling. Don't buy 4090 laptops, use a lower powered GPU like 4070 instead.

I got a 2022 Dash F15 with the 12th Gen i7 12650H and an RTX3050 gpu with 16gb DDR5 (4800). Should I consider something with a 4060-4070 with 13th gen Intel? I use my laptop hooked to a colling pad and external peripherals as a workstation, and I play racing games (casually).

Jarrod, what do you think of making a video regarding temperatures on gaming laptops? I think this topic has always been in in so much vagueness.
Gaming Laptops have improved so they don't die out as they use to buy getting 'cooked'. But Gaming Laptops seem to have motherboard issues to this date. I still think though, that normal notebooks and thin and light laptops are the better choice for most people. Gaming Laptops have rather become very good, but they are clumsy machines and still niche. More a portable desktop. Now even laptops are old school and tablets and smartphones, and may be in future VR are going to be the dominant devices for the masses. Otherwise enthusiasts still build custom PCs.
I am waiting for laptops coming with eGPU like the Asus Rog Flow. I saw that in China people are using the Lenovo Thinkbook as laptop and connects external GPUs through the Pcie of the laptop. So i am waiting for that to become more professional

I update my laptop every other GPU generation (~4-5 years). I love my Asus M16 3060 and not looking to update until 50XX or AMD equivalent, so that's at least one more year.
yeah, I think some people look to upgrade too often. I have a Legion with a RTX 3080 in it from 2021, and it still slays everything I've needed it to... never felt like I needed something better yet. I'll probably be looking more at 2026 for an upgrade.

Hey Jarrod, I plan on getting a gaming laptop soon and I can't pick between the HP VICTUS 15 FB1013dx and the HP VICTUS 15 FA1093dx, the 2nd one is a bit more expensive (around 60-90 dollars) but has more VRAM - a better cpu and gpu, so what do you recommend?

I don't know what spec those are, but if it's 4050 vs 4060 I'd definitely spend that much more for the GPU alone.
Alright so I'll list the specs quickly, the first one has an AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS, it comes with 8gb ram upgradable to 32gb (DDR5 4800 MHz) and comes with a 512gb SSD upgradable to 2TB. It comes with an RYX 2050 (4gb) around 50W TGP.
The 2nd one however which is a bit more expensive is the 2023 model which comes with an i5-13420H RTX 3050 6gb VRAM 75W TGP, aside from that it comes with DDR4 instead of DDR5 - everything else is pretty much the same. So is it worth spending 60-90 more dollars on it or would I be better off getting the 2050 AMD Ryzen 7535HS? I'll have to use this laptop for the next 4 years. @@JarrodsTech
You are exactly right Jared. I have been seeing huge discounts on Lenovo and Asus gaming laptops. There are 32GB RAM, 1TB storage, 4070’s available for $1500 and 4060’s for $1000 (16GB RAM though). Insane value right now on 2023 models
I think I'll wait for rtx 5000 laptops. Since the 4050 is too weak, the 4060 price is far from 4050 and close to 4070, and the 4070 only has 8gb vram, all this while older 3070, 3070 ti, 3080 leftovers models are being sold cheap although with no framegen. Would rather wait for 5000 series for no compromises
In Europe RTX 3000 laptops are more expensive than RTX 4000 series. For 999 € we can have a I5 12450H + RTX 4060 8G HP Victus laptop. For a model with RTX 3060 add 300 more euros.
But things gets worse as things are no more logical. Laptops with 3050 at 1400€, laptops with 4050 at 900€.. The shops are making this very confusing, nothing are correlated.

Stay away from oled, and if you have enough to spend on an oled just go ahead and buy a mini led. You can watch comparison videos, miniled is almost oled quality without the danger of burn in.

In my country there's only limited last gen ones and most are the cheaper options but not the higher end SKUs. So trying to find older model is like finding a needle in a haystack.
Hi Jarrod, what laptop would you recommend for long term use, I have 2 options one of them is a Lenovo legion 5 pro with 4060 and other is Lenovo legion 5 pro with 3070. The 4060 one is noticeably more expensive. I want to use my laptop primarily for gaming and a little bit of blender as well.
3070 is 15-20% faster in 1440p depending on CPU and laptop. also better 1% lows.
I got my acer nitro 17 at the very end of 2023. Wasn’t sure if it was a good decision because I figured new laptops would come out in a few months and I would’ve just ended up regretting not waiting. Glad to see I made a good choice and I’m totally happy with it.

I got the 2024 loq 15 version for 450 usd less than the 2023 loq 15 in my country due to a promotion. Its rtx 4060 i7. Is it worth it? Because i heard that the 2023 version is better.

Good tips. I somehow bought an open box Asus G18 4080/13980hx/64gb ram model on eBay listed for $1995, but eBay applied a coupon (definitely some error)! And the price was reduced to $1633. Definitely a lucky snag and happy to pay much less than the 2024 gaming laptop premium.
