In my humble opinion anyone with some common sense would skip this version of outrun and play outrun 2006 coast to coast, one of the BEST racing games of all time, instead.

The PS2 version does seem like a remake of that and the arcade version 😄🎮🕹
Though the car looks nothing like a Ferrari in this one, otherwise it's an interesting version. Coming out between the original and OutRun 2/2006, this one looks very much like "OutRun 1.5". 😄

I had this back in the day. It was fun overall, but there are some subtle experience changes going from 2d sprites to 3d polys:
for example, In the canyon stage (wall of boulders typically 2nd stage fork right) you get some 'surprise' turns that are masked by the sprite rendered engine. While the actual course is the same in the PS2 poly version, it is no longer a surprise because the poly boulders(and impeding sharp left turn) appear far in the distance very early.
I always wondered if this particular version could have made an appearance on the Dreamcast.

I definitely 100% agree that this would have been an awesome game to see running on the Dreamcast. This and Golden Axe 😄
It would also be nice to have this collection remastered for the Nintendo Switch 👍🏆
I highly recommend the Nintendo 3DS version. It have 60 FPS like the Switch version. It looks better thanks to the 240p Display an ofcourse 3D! My favorite Outrun is still the 2006 Coast to Coast for the OG Xbox.

I actually just bought the retail version of SEGA 3D Classics Collection which I like. I thought it also had OutRun too, but it didn't 😓
I have never had a chance to play OutRun Coast to Coast but have heard good thing and it is in the ( never ending 😁 ) wishlist.

This version of Outrun is better than it looks, but it's frustrating that the camera is just set too low. The car sits much too high on the screen, and it sometimes blocks your view of the road ahead completely, which is super annoying. Any time you crest a hill you're driving completely blind, seeing nothing but the back end of your own car. A tiny adjustment to the camera and the game would be ten times better.

The game is good and the camera does need to be higher. Like I mentioned I would also like the car size to be changed too.

The ZXSpectrum titles were by far the best home conversions. The arcade game had a real sense of speed which is the last thing a driving game needs and luckily the Speccy got rid of this. Can we have a video about the different Speccy Outrun games?
The Master System versions were good but not as good as Speccy. Obviously Mega Drive version was good.
PC Engine had loads of incredible arcade ports, that system never got the credit it was due at the time. Rainbow Islands on PCECD was the best home version by far.
Rainbow Islands on Spectrum is genuinely one of the best RI versions though, would love to see a video trying all the home versions of that. NES is actually so much worse than Spectrum, as are the other 8 bit versions.
I think the graphics are beautiful with the wide-screen setting on here, I don't think I've seen this version before.
I'd like to see a video on Pietro Bros and Janky Joe in Retro Hell - both have each level designed after a classic title so if you're a retro gamer, you will love both of them. I think I prefer Pietro as it visits games I'm more familiar with but both are incredible games. Some of the only modern homebrew games I have revisited at all, but also more than once and I will do do again in future as they are so fun to play through.

I have never played the Spectrum version of OutRun. I need to dust off the Spectrum and buy the game 😃
The PCe games are great ( Batman, Bloody Wolf, Power Drift, Moto Roader etc...). One of my favourite consoles. Agree 100% that this console deserved more credit 👍🎮
I'm so happy you mentioned the ZXSpectrum ( love games like Target Renegade, Robocop, Batman etc... ). One of the consoles now a days that does not get mentioned enough.
I would like to make more content comparing different versions, on different consoles. However, I don't have the consoles and/or adapters to do so 😌
Outrun "3D" - I was also very surprised with the wide-screen look 😎
With your recommendation I will have to check out Janky Joe and Pietro Bros. Lately, I have been really enjoying games like Final Vendetta and Ninja Saviours on Switch 👍

Graphics where not that good for 3D, almost everyone on NeoGAF hated it when it was released BITD - They did the same with Golden Axe, looks like some PD game.

Fair enough, the graphics are not for everyone. I do prefer the classic OutRun but I think this game still looks good for what it is.
That's the great thing about games. If you like them, great. If not, someone else probably does 😄
