That's when endeavor realized, Toya was never an un-ideal son for his dreams... Endevour was just impatient and pushed him too much and too fast, then neglected him before he can even develop his powers fully. That just hurts.
The Todoroki family arc is the only part of MHA where I'm like...this couldn't happen this way in any other manga. It's simultaneously extremely real, but extremely ingrained into what makes the setting unique. Quirks being heritable traits and heroism being a public service profession make everything about their storyline so much more complex than it otherwise would be. I'm so glad they did justice to this episode and the Todoroki story overall.
Yeah I think we all forget what made mha such a big shot back then. Maybe it lost some momentum, but god damn have these past 2 seasons delivered. How often do you see a shounen actually utilize the cast they spend forever building? Not everyone's relevant of course, but so many characters this season have massive standout moments, screen time and events that have nothing to do with deku. Not perfection, but damn has it been quality.
Honestly I don’t care if MHA isn’t a perfect show or if there aren’t enough “stakes” because characters don’t die enough. I don’t think there’s any other modern shonen that does emotional beats as well as this one, and at the end of the day those are the feelings that will stay in my heart for the rest of my life. I will always be able to look back at this show with fondness, and that’s all I could ask for.
Same it's so good and MHA will always stay with me. I literally stopped using Twitter because I was done with idiots on there moaning about it constantly when they don't even watch it.
I’ve always told people this since season 4 that MHA is the naruto of modern manga Out of the big three what Naruto absolutely excelled at was emotional and relatable story beats that really hook you as a reader / watcher (yes more than one piece in my opinion) MHA is the only other anime that has come close to replicating the feelings Naruto gave me
I think you’re one of the few reactors who actually understood the implication of Toya’s hysterical strength awakening his cold genes. It wouldn’t have come naturally without near death situations, but feasibly he could’ve eventually unlocked that ability.
Considering he got maybe 3 years of training before being tossed aside and never focused on control (like Shouto with Phosphor), it’s hard to say that it would have only awakened like this outside that context. Toya’s apparent weakness to fire in any other family would have led to training him in control and especially temperature control, when he still wanted to be a hero. Shouto’s unbalanced quirk usage at the start of the series also led to damage to his body that balance and control training addressed. After a decade or two of training, Toya very well could have awakened it without needing to all but die. The ice quirk is strong enough to hold him and a bomb of extreme heat together for a long time after all. However, we’ll never know. In this timeline, how things actually happened, he was undertrained and, despite being smart, only really learned how to make bigger and hotter flames. In this extreme situation and specific timeline, a death awakening was probably the only possibility for it to appear, especially considering how he had already basically died and it didn’t show up then (afawk).
That seems to be the case with most if not all things they watch. That is why SoS is the sole reaction channel I've subscribed to. They aren't like many other channels where they just react to the hype of the moment and then move on; they look at things with so much depth and purpose and then take their time to fully discuss their thoughts, insights, and ideas. As someone who doesn't really have people I can truly share my enjoyment of media like this with, it is so nice to still get a feeling of the completeness of experiencing a show beyond just watching it due to the bros' deep dive.
@@christiecakes014 As an anime only, honestly the title really threw me and I probably didn't appreciate the Todoroki stuff nearly as much as I would have because my main takeaway was the disappointment of "why is the title All-Might hype and he had like one scene?"
I think the title is honestly almost perfect for this episode it can be interpretted as you have with the all might scene. But another way to view it is as endeavor being there for Touya finally or as Dabi being there is a threat to the evacuees or as the rest of his family showing up to help pretty much saying I am here in there actions. You could also view it as shouto being a true hero like all might helping a villian. There are also a lot more ways you can interpret it.@@Trichromanic
I kind of like that they used "I am here" as a title because it implies that in coming into his own, Shoto has come to All Might's level. Also he arrives at the perfect moment so in a literal sense, I Am Here fits 😂
I kinda like it for that reason, but I also kinda hate it for that exact reason lol. To me, Shoto's whole journey was about finding himself and establishing himself as his own person, so taking away his episode title and giving it to All Might (the person that Shoto was raised being compared to) just really doesn't sit well with me.
@@christiecakes014I saw someone make this rlly beautiful post about the Todoroki Origin episode and how I Am Here is tied all the way to this-it’s in the moment Rei and Shoto are watching TV and All Might goes into why he went with that catchphrase and how your bloodline and heritage doesn’t make you a hero, it’s what you do with your quirk and you yourself that’s the hero, which is why he always says “I AM HERE” to prove this point. This was Shoto’s “I AM HERE” moment.
The “I am here” title drop for All Might standing to face All For One, was one of the most important title drops in the series, so unfortunately Shoto’s episode title lost to his. It sucks there wasn’t a better compromise
Yeah, this is the hardest I’ve cried in a while. Beforehand, Shoto was called the “hero of the family,” and after this, yeah, he absolutely is. Not that he wasn’t before. And honestly, for as horrific of a person as Touya has become, I think it’s only right for him to be saved by the family and make sure he doesn’t game end himself. It was great timing too since Endeavor had just given up on Touya again. The emotions were complicated as heck this time around, but I’m hoping that Touya can finally find some level of peace. And that’s not even touching on All Might and Death Arms.
Toya unlocking an ice quirk on the verge of death is a very haunting idea. It shows Endeavor that he could have gotten everything he wanted from his first child. But, he had to risk that child’s life in order to achieve his dream. He had a choice. He could either have his son or his dream. Not both. Shows the extent of Endeavor’s failures with his family. It took all of them together to stop Toya. Not even Shoto’s Great Glacial Aegir was enough to stop Toya alone. It took all of the Todoroki clan coming together to neutralize all of that heat and save all of those people. The Masegaki kids were right to put their trust into Five Wee Wees 😁 Also Iida achieving transonic speed equivalent to a fighter jet was amazing. He needed Shoto to constantly produce ice to reduce resistance then needed Shoto to create a layer of air with his heat to reduce friction in order to achieve that speed, but the feat is nonetheless impressive. Love the quirk combos 🤩
Everything about this episode was chef kiss. All Might being quirkless proving you can still be a hero is so freaking great that i completely forgot all about that conversation from the first episode. Everything with Todoroki family and animations is so well done.
Touya's flame grows stronger the more riled up/emotional he gets. him moving to explode as soon as the rest of the family arrives and shouto appears as a child, showing him what could've been if only it never escalated this far; and this being what pushed him over the edge to explode is so heartbreaking.
I remember seeing these panels for the first time and the absolute frenzy the fandom was in wondering whether Toya’s flames would destroy everyone and make Shoto the last Todoroki. This whole arc has come to a really incredible conclusion. And I love that aida was involved right until the end-and bringing it all back from the Hosu/Stain arc, and the ongoing storyline they’ve had with Shoto helping with Iida’s brother, and Iida always supporting Shoto. I was right there with you guys in the excitement about the team ou and the ice jet they made.
I would go as far as to say it's one of the greatest subplots in battle shonen period. Teased since S1, properly introduced in S2, progresses and develops every season, reaches its breaking point in S6, and it's climax in S7. Just an absolute masterpiece all throughout.

“My friends get mad and cry not just for themselves, but for the sake of others. I want to be like that too.” Shoto has almost never known how to really get close to people enough to where he really cares about their wellbeing. This is him admitting he knows his family life messed him up, but he wants to try and be a good person like his friends because he’s grown to care about them so much, which he never thought was possible. His childhood prevented him from developing the natural instinct to care for others like the rest of the cast, but he strives to be a hero nonetheless.
It gets me that Shouto’s attack only worked because his other family members were already using their ice quirks to help. It was only together that they could stop Toya. 😭
This is an episode of absolute legends. The confrontation of All-Might and AFO carries the weight of the ENTIRE show as All-Might goes to settle a 200 year old grudge match between him and the DEVIL as a one man army, all to protect his son in literal DEFIANCE of the foresight that told him what happens, when it happens, and in the PERFECT CONDITIONS to make it true. And he STILL does it with an honest to god smile on his face. And Iida is recognized by Stain the man who called him unworthy and tried to end him is now a witness to this guy building to support Shoto as he did for him at his lowest and literally walks UP walls to be a hero and launches flies like a plane, to deliver Shoto to the pit of hell to save his family from Touya who is going to destroy everything as his father has to come to terms with had he JUST stayed by his son’s side and believed in his son, he may have awakened the quirk he wanted AND had a happy family. But he takes it and goes to protect everyone crying on the ground apologizing over and over to everyone. (And the temperatures are RIDICULOUS. Thermonuclear, too…just a completely immeasurable cold that cancels it out. Absolute zero was off the table a LOOOONG time ago for what these people freeze in these conditions so there’s not a way to even measure it.) Oh and a REALLY insightful conversation was cut between Mr Compress and Geten that talked about the thick bloodline of the Himura clan (Rei’s family. So the liberation ice guy is related to the Todoroki’s) and how their prosperity was built and how they supported the main bloodline until they had to be sold off. Which would’ve been REALLY weird to have right after the All-Might speech to talk about a family lineage built on a word that starts with “i” that I can’t say. Also I had to clean up the pool I made of tears this morning. So that was fun.
I always appreciated how the whole family was there for this. Enji's relation to Toya of course has the most screentime, but it's good to remember that there was a brother, a sister, a *mother* who lost him and now have to deal with what he's become. Fuyumi and Natsuo shouldn't shoulder any of the blame for what happened, but I'm sure they still felt like they should have done more for Toya, so the fact that they could be here now is really important for them as people. Rei of course has to deal with not being a better mother (again, she really shouldn't be blamed, but it's still a weight for her to carry) and so now she's not going to let her child destroy himself.
Dabi/Touya crying is so much more impactful, meaningful. Think back and remember, his tear ducts were seared/burnt shut by his own flames years ago. So he's incapable of crying or he was. Imagine what it must've taken for him to cry the tears he did here. : (
I was very moved when I saw it in the manga, and I cried a lot when I watched the anime. And I cried a lot of tears once again while watching your reactions. It was a really good episode
If I can guess what these nexts few episodes are about, this and the next two are my favorite moments of the war arc. Some of my favorite side characters really have their moment to shine.
Welcome to the family. I have a very small group of reactors that I follow and these guys are in my to 3. They actually take the time to try to understand the motivations of the characters. Sometimes they're super on point and sometimes they miss the mark but it's never boring. Check out their reactions to bo jack. It actually gives you a deeper perspective on the story. I love these guys
Oh no. Fuyumi and Natsuo just have purely ice based quirks. And Touya doesn't have the same quirk as Shouto. It's 5% ice and 90% fire. He wouldn't have been able to get naturally. It's hysterical strength and not a awakening. He cannot use it like Shouto.
@@JustCauseFan No he wouldn't unless you put him through extreme death situations which isn't good. Again it's not a awakening Endeavor literally said what it is. And if he did as you said we have a different show with two characters missing from this family.
29:39 hey, maybe I'm being nitpicky here, and I know the bros don't see the comments, but for anyone wondering Dabi's original hair colour was red. Full on red, nothing else. It was red on purpose because Horikoshi does indeed like to show which parent's quirk gene, if you will, has been passed on to the kids and by what amount, thus Shoto has half white half red hair to symbolise him having both of the quirks at the same time. Now I'm not sure Natsu or the elder sister have anything to do with Endeavour's quirk, for all we know they just have a version of Rei's ice, but Touya specifically was drawn with full blown red hair to symbolise him adopting the fire without any of the ice. And even though that was a failure in Endeavour's eyes (when it comes to a perfect fire/ice combo), Touya's fire had significantly greater damage potential than Endeavour's so he was still a "success" in his initial plans. No need for any more kids, one try and they immediately got a higher ceiling Endeavour, with the proper training of course. But they ofc later found out that Touya having a body resistant to ice (from Rei) and not resistant to fire (from Endeavour) was a uniquely bad match up that hurt the kid a lot. So back to the drawing boards, and all that disappointment/heartbreak is what led to everything going downhill later with the todoroki family. The reason why in this episode we see a young Touya with white hair, and ofc an adult Touya with white hair before this ep, is shown to us in previous seasons. As a kid Touya trained so hard to make his dad notice him, to become the number one hero, to not be replaced by his dad's next kid, that all the stress made his hair turn white. It doesn't have anything to do with him potentially unlocking ice like an accident in this ep.
Well, kinda but not realy? Toya having red hair was a retcon caused by a mistake in the anime. In the manga,he always had white hair (first seen during the Midoriya vs Todoroki fight in Season 2) but the anime showed his hair as red in the flashback,so Horikoshi retconned that to him having red hair when he was born, that eventualy turned white.
18:12 how wrong you guys are lol. If there is one thing I've learned being in the mha fandom is that Horikoshi trusted the audience too much but jokes aside great reaction and analysis.
Remember back in Ep 12, the Doctor told AFO "I hope that your hatred will always dwell in your heart"? Yeah that's a mistranslation from Viz, and Crunchyroll picked it up What he really said was "I hope that your hatred will NOT dwell in your heart", it's a crazy foreshadowing of AFO's downfall, as we can see here, AFO who's supposed to be in a hurry failed to ignore All Might because he allowed hatred to dwell in his heart Thanks Viz, your incompetence ruined a cool little foreshadowing, this is why I never pay for their subscription
All Might's Iron Might suit and gear better have been made by Hatsume Me. Just saying. And holy crap, Stain and All Might fighting All for one? (Hope that Stain has a razor-sharp boomerang and can just snipe and lick) AND THE CALLBACK!!! sorry shouting, the call back to Izuku on the roof and All Might telling him that someone who's quirkless can't be a hero and then us (or at least me) figuring all along that Izuku was gonna prove him wrong (and feeling kind of cheated in ep 3 tbh when he got given a quirk but I got over it) and then now quirkless (again) All Might REFUTING HIS OWN STATEMENT, BUT ABOUT HIMSELF AND shouting again and also beating on the furniture slightly sorry. [breathes] There were so many points in this episode that I literally cried (TODOROKI FAMILY OH MY GOD AND HOLY SHIT TOYA HAS ICE TOO LIKE A NEAR DEATH SAFETY VALVE) and gaaaaaah. I'm dehydrated and my face hurts from smiling so broadly through that entire glorious discussion and my crops are watered and everything is frigging beautiful. I need this show to never be over. Never.
So like... Im still lost on the misgivings about how the Todoroki storyline was handled during season 4 & 5. Like did they want the pay off then and there, or what? Like i get a lot of folks didn't care for the pacing of 1A vs 1B, but i don't get the vitriol it receives at large. Or is this just a matter that sometimes it's best not to worry about people pleasing. 🤔
I think the S4/5 love comes from the fans that really value Endeavor's personal growth (because Shouto took a relative backseat during most of those arcs). I feel they're essential to this ultimate emotional payoff.
I think they're probably mostly talking about that one episode in Season 5 during the Endeavour Agency arc that only adapted one chapter, the rest being like 70% recap

Yeah, those tears were just ice used to represent tears. Bro literally doesn't have eyes anymore because they burned away, nevermind tear glands 😂
@@furiousdestroyah9999
Ohhhhhhhh. I thought that he actually managed to cry somehow.
Boy do I feel dumb now. Lol.
@@furiousdestroyah9999yeah that's that's not true lmao
Good to know I wasn't the only one sobbing from this episode 😭
And with that, the fractured family who gathered to dance in hell came out scarred but finally whole.
I was very moved when I saw it in the manga, and I cried a lot when I watched the anime.
And I cried a lot of tears once again while watching your reactions.
It was a really good episode
The Todoroki drama remains one of the highlights of the manga
He's become such a good teacher in the "inspiring you to find the right answer" sense. Well, he was always great at those tbf.
43:39 "Ive got HP to spend my boy"
Me rocking up to every elden ring boss
im glad i wasnt alone crying my heart out these last few episodes
Peak MHA has been reached, from here on, it's all just gravy baby!
“I’ve been looking forward to this!” -Count “magic fingers” Doku
If I can guess what these nexts few episodes are about, this and the next two are my favorite moments of the war arc. Some of my favorite side characters really have their moment to shine.
Y’all just got a new subscriber I’ve seen all reactions that are out and y’all are part of the 2% thank you
Welcome to the family.
Also, I'm gonna subscribe to you. You've got good taste so I'm gonna do my part to see you make it as a youtuber. Good luck!
0:45 What kind of madness indeed.
"I am here" has so many different implication's for this episode. It's a very good title.
the way everything loops back around
this season has been great
This episode was so brutal for anyone with kids or siblings.
Fantastic deep dive here! Love it
This was the first episode in a while that made me genuinely cry, which isn't easy to do.
Oh no. Fuyumi and Natsuo just have purely ice based quirks. And Touya doesn't have the same quirk as Shouto. It's 5% ice and 90% fire. He wouldn't have been able to get naturally. It's hysterical strength and not a awakening. He cannot use it like Shouto.
this is not a proven fact, only theory, maybe with enough trained and stimulation he would have awakened it
I agree with you here but love toya and his family sotry❤
@@JustCauseFan No he wouldn't unless you put him through extreme death situations which isn't good. Again it's not a awakening Endeavor literally said what it is. And if he did as you said we have a different show with two characters missing from this family.
@@اميرمادرا okay. I love Shouto and his family story.
@@JustCauseFan Also we have no story if this happened, and it's not a awakening
You guys cried almost as much as I did. Impressive!
Great to see the reactions
Now it's your turn to go plus ultra, uravity
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS REACTION OMG, SUCH A PEAK EPISODE
21:29 reminded me of that video of the EA sports logo but it’s just the letter E. Thank you for your time
This is the one I've been waiting for. Peak has arrived.
Death Arms is the name of that heavy lifter hero
I AM HERE!!
I went into this ep semi-prepared for All Might to do something but I was NOT READY FOR ALL THE TODOROKI FEELINGS good lord
This might be one of MHA’s best episodes
ALL MIGHT!? Whenever they go back to that I'm gonna freak out.
7:44 Rejoice! Endeavor
18:12 how wrong you guys are lol.
If there is one thing I've learned being in the mha fandom is that Horikoshi trusted the audience too much but jokes aside great reaction and analysis.
Peak fiction has arrived.
I really hope Mei Hatsume is the creator of All Might's gadgets. I want her babies to get a role in defeating AfO up close.
Remember back in Ep 12, the Doctor told AFO "I hope that your hatred will always dwell in your heart"? Yeah that's a mistranslation from Viz, and Crunchyroll picked it up
What he really said was "I hope that your hatred will NOT dwell in your heart", it's a crazy foreshadowing of AFO's downfall, as we can see here, AFO who's supposed to be in a hurry failed to ignore All Might because he allowed hatred to dwell in his heart
Thanks Viz, your incompetence ruined a cool little foreshadowing, this is why I never pay for their subscription
Never.
Been waiting to see the All Might vs All for One confrontation animated for ages.
This episode is awesome
YES LETS GO BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
and now we have 2 episodes left
PEAK!!!
PEAK MHA ❄️🔥😭💔
What does it say about me that I've started doing your intro in lockstep now?
Idk what they mean, the anime has adapted that storyline well, even improved on the source material.
僕は日本人で、原作とアニメ両方見ています。原作では、オールマイトが来た時、No.436私が来た!と書いてあってとても印象深かったです
Aren't you guys glad you didn't give up on this show? one rough-ish season, but this payoff was worth it.
Hamill Locks
it felt short and kinda empty with shoto&toya initial fight. ive forgiven everything after this happened
2 episodes left so i assume next season is the final season
It will be, and likely only a 13 episode season at that to mirror the first season
