  • Most Islamic scholars said that this verse is revealed after a companion of the Prophet PBUH named Auf bin Malik Asyjai’ came to meet the Prophet telling the Prophet about his son that has been captured by enemies. The Prophet PBUH advised him to be patient for the disaster that has fallen on him and to recite لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا باللَّه as many times as possible. After he went home, he did as the Prophet PBUH has advised him immediately. When he went back home his son came back safely to him along with camels. The author of Kitab Al-Kasyaf wrote that while he was at his house his son knocked on his door and brought along 100 camels with him. His son has managed to escape from his son’s captors and brought back camels and other valuables.
It can be recited every morning after fajr for rizqi. Normally, it is recited ten times after the prayer. If recited constantly, he said that rizqi would chase you. The anxiety over the uncertainty of life will be Removed, since it affirms that Allah (s.w.t.) is ar-Razzaq, the Provider, and no one else. Allah (s.w.t.) will Provide from an unexpected source.
It is also a du’a recited when one is in great difficulty. For one in such difficulty or who has a problem, it is recited as a wirid three times after the swalah. Insha’Allah, there is the Promise that within a short period of time, Allah (s.w.t.) will Appoint for the reciter a way out of all difficulties. As a wirid of protection, the amal is to recite it three times before going to bed and three times before leaving the house in addition to the above.
It is also an ayat ash-shifa’, an ayat for healing. If it is read on the sick three times and blown on the patient, or over water and given to the patient to drink; insha’Allah, the patient will recover. It also functions as a cure for the menaces of the ghayb. If recited at least seven times, it is sufficient to chase away the jinn.
If one has a pressing hajat, Shaykh Bagharib (q.s.) taught us that we shout recite it at least a hundred times after the swalah hajat. But there are no limits to its benefits and no limits to its recitation.
