"One of my girlfriends lived down in Plymouth so I often wandered around the Hoe" 😆some unintentional excellence there SJ
Not sure it was unintentional
I was literally going to comment about this 😂 I thought i misheard him
If you ain't from Plymouth that must sound so funny to ppl who don't know
"They're a very nice, decent football club", AWWWWW, Mr Jordan, you make me melt with your sweet kindness!
Simon back the courage of your convictions Simon 😂💚
whats that got to do with the price of fish!
@@irishskier9432you still using that saying you also listen Rick astley and crank on neighbours
Seems a good guy, good luck to Plymouth & Wayne next season 👏
The Simon and Rooney rivalry
The rivalry we never knew we needed
Everyone has to start somewhere, and the circumstances at Derby and Birmingham were far from ideal, so it will be great to see what Wayne can do with a fresh start and at a club where the expectations aren't too high. Good luck to both Wayne and Plymouth next season.
Ah yes. Give him Real Madrid so might win few games 🤣
Most consider rosenior As the brains at Derby and What about dc United? biggest budget expected to be top 2 and at less make play off finished 14 of 18 got sacked doesn't relate to players didn't travel on team coach but if you get as many points as his em you will win the Premier as well
Wayne Rooney is prepared to take a lower club and learn his trade as a manager so great for him.
We wish him. well
It's a heck of a gamble, if you consider where Argyle finished in the table. Probably a better and more friendly club environment and more realistic ambitions for WR to flourish. I hope he does. It's probably the ideal club at this stage in his management career.
Absolutely spot on, couldn't say it better myself!!!
I disagree. I don't see it as any more a gamble than appointing any other manager. Probably less of a gamble if anything as I think if he gets it right then he'll get it very right.
There is a very friendly environment at Home Park it's true, but if we have a poor start especially at home then Home Park will soon become very volatile place for My Rooney. I hope he never sees the ugly side of Home Park.
It's a gamble with huge potential upside if it pays off. If it goes south we'll still have Dewsnip and Nance to steady the ship. I think WR's biggest signing this season will be his assistant, Mike Phelan would be excellent if it happens.
He's going to flop he's absolutely useless.
One thing I’ll say about Rooney, his determination on the field translates off it as well, he is giving management a go
Is that not what all managers do? Bounce back somewhere else after getting the sack.
That's fine but seriously the amount of credit I give a manager for "giving it a go" is like 1%. The 99% is whether or not they are in any way successful.
Spot on is Simon Hallett in regards to small sample sizes and short term varaince.
He is but only as far as the flip of a coin.
There's only one Wayne Rooney !!! ❤❤❤
My Grandad died at a PA match ! They scored a goal and he jumped up cheering and sat down dead ! A Plymouth man all his life ❤❤❤
Class mate!
I can almost picture that scenario with your Grandad, especially if it were against Exeter City, otherwise in what was a distressing situation, you can look back now & think he actually died happy watching his local club score a goal,
I am waiting for Wayne Rooney press conference
Darren Farley lol
As a Birmingham fan it will be interesting to see Rooney have a transfer window. He was a given a bunch of players at Birmingham that got us relegated. He was sacked before the transfer window. So it will be interesting
Rooney deffo had his post it notes on his computer with key words 😂
on/off lol
Thought I was watching a Harry Enfield sketch

😂😂
@@roathripperwasn’t that the fast show?
End of the day, one is a current owner, with an idea of what he wants for His team, within the parameters they have themselves in. One is on the radio trying to tell others that they're wrong.
Would there be underlying reasons behind Hallett's choice in Rooney, absolutely. But when you're literally bottom 2/3 in the league for finances and budget, you have to take risks and give opportunities. I'm standing by my club regardless, but i'll still ask Rooney to Prove Us Wrong. Lets see where we are by December
You sound very slow…. Simon has owned teams in the prem…. Plymouth have not long come up from league 1. If you don’t think Simon knows what he’s talking about you’re a bit slow
@Piqueblinders11 You sound like you've misread and misinterpreted what I've said. I e never said Jordan doesn't know what he's talking about. I said there's a difference between club situations. Jordan had a club in the prem, spending millions on transfers regularly. Argyle have only just broke the 1m spend on a player last year. Hallett understands his club and parameters now, more than someone who used to own a club and put them into administration back a decade ago.
@@Piqueblinders11 Simon has owned a team, not teams in prem. Stop being slow
@CasuallyAd4m I don't mean to say this to be horrible about Plymouth (because my team has no rivalry with you guys) but Rooney is a disaster as a Manager.
Just this season just gone, he took a team that was headed for mid-table at the very least, and he relegated us, and now he is being tasked with trying to help out a team that were only 1 point above us on the table.
Rooney is a League Two Manager at best imo, Championship clubs (including Plymouth) can do better I feel.
I mean what happened to the Interim that beat Hull on the final day? He pulled out a huge win when it mattered, where as can Rooney pull out a win full stop?
I honestly hope that I'm wrong, as I have no ill will towards Plymouth, and Rooney was a fantastic player, but I just would be prepared for the worst.
On a side note, I am curious to know what most Derby and DC United fans thought of Rooney as a Manager.
Well to say 15 games bcfc wasn't enough is stupid. 6 in table then bottom 3 by the time he was sacked dc United bottom when sacked. So story was he wanted to come home Derby the credit goes to rosario . Rooney can't relate to players doesn't even go on the coach with the players Rooney great player but name one great player who became even a good manager. Rooney will expect championship 1 players to be as good as he was
Simon Hallet is a secret Exeter City supporter
So he's the one!
9@humptydumpty9177
Yes, there is always one.
Good luck Plymouth hope it works out for you & Rooney-Hull city loyal
Full credit to Rooney for humbling himself. Most won’t
Last chance saloon, had to take why he can get
PR stunt
3 year contract. Rooney knows how to stitch owners up, but that's about all. Everything else will be downhill from now on in.
I think Wayne will do okay. He was unfortunate not to keep Derby up a couple of seasons ago even though they had a massive points deduction at the start of the season.
🤣 he wont
Im Argyle through and through and this is a mistake
@@stephenholmes1036 Good to see your giving him a chance then! It's not like you had top drawer managers knocking on your door is it! 😂
I dont really understand all the flack that rooney is getting here re him getting the plymouth job he already kept them up last season because of what he did at birmingham city 🤣
They'd hoped hedve dropped down to a Salford or somewhere they could've ripped him
😅😅😅😅
3 candidates
Roo got it on merit against a check list
and people knew him from his young years
he has spent many years in the dressing room
on the way in management ROO has made an impact
he is a winner overall
lets see how he does
Simon Jordon you are no longer an owner
no cash on the table
or in the game
Owners dont win games
players win games
give the guy a chance
Hallett has got this wrong and im an Argyle man. I think Mr Hallett is a Grecian
It could work out for Plymouth. The issue of why it didn't work at Birmingham, was more down to the fact they brought him, and ripped up the system that was working, to then place what he wants, whatever it is, into the club's ideals and structure. Which was the main reason they went down. You don't just flip everything that's working middle of the way in. Which is why Plymouth may have a leg to stand on, as they'll have a preseason. But only time will tell.
Ian Foster got 12 games and three months in charge. Wayne will be gone by mid-October.
Don't think so. Reckon he'll get a good three years at the club & then go to a Prem club when they ask about him.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nailed it
Rooney is going to surprise a lot of people
@@NaRin-np4mh no believe me he's not
You can look at it two ways.....very refreshing attitude from the Plymouth owner who is willing to overlook Rooney's shocking "body of work" as a manager and give him a chance or poor choice of manager which isn't going to work and will end in tears. I don't see it working like most people.
The circumstances at Birmingham that made it difficult for Wayne was 1 he's a terrible manager. 2 he continually blamed the players.3 tactically he was clueless.
Where's your CV then? 🤡
It's bizarre that Jordan is great at not listening to people. Jordan has his arguments ready without processing anything that anybody else says.
The narrative here for Jordan was always 'this owner doesn't know what he's doing and he's not interested in previous results.'
Argyle's owner makes a very clear case of why he appointed Rooney, and does not say 'results don't matter', but Jordan ignores that and goes back to pre-arranged talking point.
If Jordan was 1/10th as bright as he thinks he is, he'd be the brightest star in the sky.
Except of course...he isn't.
Jordan obviously hasn't seen Hallet's interview regarding why they chose him
I dislike Rooney but fair play to him for wanting to give it a go. He deserves a chance.
Good luck Plymouth hopefully you wipe simons snobbery of his face
Not a snob. A guy that came from nothing & made something of himself . But we need to call it out as snobbery 😮 🤔 ❓

I like pllymouth good owner it looks like. A bit Steve Gibson at Bpro gives people a chance.
Good luck wazza hope it works out for you
I'm sure I can speak for all football fans when I say I can barely remember Rooney playing days, but his time coaching at DC United really shaped his career
I hope WR smashes up the league. Go Wazza!!
Why would anybody ask Jordan his opinion on running a football club 😆😆😆
Yes always struck me as odd. Failed football club owner now the oracle on being a top football club owner 🤦
Hope he doesn’t see your comment, might threaten you with a court case like he did Eddie Hearns. 😄
He knows more than you
I think Rooney was hired to increase Plymouth's reputation. The logic is that his name will attract a wider pool of players to the club and his connections to Man Utd could lead to some young u21 players coming to us on loan. The reality is that Plymouth don't have the budgets of teams around them in the Championship so need to think outside the box to increase brand reputation, and to bring more exposure to the club. This decision could also increase marketing income, sponsorships, ticket sales etc.
Essentially it was a finanical decision to appoint Rooney.
Simon is always looking at the negatives.. Far too much imo and ignoring any positives, he seems to flat out pan ppl and blacklist them, I'm sure he's made mistakes etc and grown changed and learnt from his mistakes.
He's polarising himself
True he's writing Rooney off before a ball has been kicked.
@@r4h4al I just find Simon to continually be way too negative
Kinda glass half empty or smashed to pieced kinda guy
He's observant but doesn't give much chance or mercy
Seems clubs these days are run by IT departments, logistics and and marketing types pretending to be football experts.
Seeing as we judge the best players by stats why not managers? It's all narrow minded
Sadly I think the owner messed up. Rooney may be a sweet talker but he’s not a good manager.
This interview is ridiculous, give the lad a chance, the experience and elite mentality Rooney will bring is worth a punt, he knows what it takes at the highest level and he’ll have the respect of any player worth keeping. How has this fella signed up to do this interview? It’s bizarre 😂
Exactly, think he just rates Rooney.
Facts
A chance?! Rooney has walked into a 3rd job in the Championship, which is a huge league, despite having proven nothing anywhere he's managed.
@@NTL578 The same sheer determination which made him an excellent footballer is what has got him these opportunities. His previous 2 jobs in the Championship weren't the easiest, one in administration and the other under new owners who though it would be a good idea to sack their manager and change the style of play in October. At Plymouth he gets a clean slate, a full pre season and the chance to bring in his own players. Make or break time for him.
I'm an Evertonian, but I am not sure about Wayne. Did a great job with all the noise around Derby like Dyche has done with us, but not much since. Lets see.
Good conversation 👍🏼
Jordan the man who put Palace into administration yes lets listen to him (He has never managed either yet thinks he can call out others claiming poor choices)
Good interview all round
It is a gamble. But gambles can pay off if you are smart about it.
It won’t
This guy speaks total sense when it comes to data and analysis. He’s clearly a very smart man.
I’m not sure it translates to football management.
Simon Jordon …… the greatest club owner of all time
The owner has been flattered that Rooney applied for the job and has appointed him to raise his own profile. He's put himself on the map and that's all that matters to him. Rooney won't succeed at Plymouth but the owner has got his 5 minutes.
Football needs a West Country team in the Higher Pyramid. Greetings from the North East.
Does anybody know where Simon is sitting in relation to where Jim is sitting ?
The guests are great fair play
boro fan here...always had a soft spot for argyle...the whole league would be miles better for plymouth to finally make the top flight if they ever do...big city representing devon/cornwall..the corrupt premier league needs a plymouth..a proper club..good support representing a region almost..rather than pointless clubs like bournemth..zero support in a non footballing town..smaller than poole pirates at wimborne rd...the old home park always was daunting..i never liked rooney..but i do now..hope he does really well now. boro 1st plymouth 2nd next year...
Rooney helped Plymouth from avoiding relegation already, by sending Birmingham down!!!!
In a world where a manager who was relegated with Burnley now is sitting as Bayern manager! Who by the way won nothing and needed a manager that can get them to the top again, what has Kompany done to deserve that?!
Yet we’re debating whether or not Rooney can manage lowly Plymouth. Have a day off Jordan ffs
Oh please, as if there was a long line of people wanting the job. At least, people who had been at the level Rooney has been. Giving him a go is a no brainer really - he'll pump up sponsorship money, and hopefully bring his experience to the team.
He comes across well in 2 different perspectives SIMOM thinks he’s a dumb and can’t manage football teams
While the owner recognises Wayne knows football and that’s what’s appealing on top of being a people person or whatever
Simon completely lost when someone talks about underlying data or anything more techincal.
If there's one area simon has no business criticising anyone on is hiring managers. He was an absolute disaster
We are a small local club and our manager is super famous within the game
Complete madness. It was his doing of relegating Birmingham. What an absolute disgrace.
15 game in charge and you blame him?? 😂😂😂
Everyone forgets that Simon completely failed as an owner and made a series of terrible decisions which almost destroyed Crystal Palace. He is not an authority to speak on other clubs decisions that are actually ran incredibly well compared to his ownership.
Och, wheesht 😮
Again way this gumf 🤔 ❓
You are spot on mate
he was still young and he lost money during the financial crisis i personally would cut him some slack he achieved far more than you and I will ever will
@@gunner4life568 You can only speak for yourself. Also, the point stands regardless of his age he was not a proficient owner.
@@gunner4life568 what has Simon achieved other than being able to spout “big words” on a morning radio show?
Wayne Rooney is as much a good football manager as my granny
Simon Hired Ian Dowie.
The more I listen to Simon the more I realize he has a deep affection for every club in existence 🤣 🤣 🤣
Now Simon’s going to slate Plymouth for the next year when he’s not spoke about them in 3 seasons ha
Majority of managers that are out of work have been fired because of a poor win ratio. The past is the past, new club new opportunities.
Why on earth would anyone employ Wayne Rooney as their manager? I mean he literally brings nothing to the table at all, unless I am missing something?
Its an obsession simple simon has with Rooney
Poor Simon Hallett having to listen to these two muppets!
Best of luck to Rooney 👌🏻 Don’t get all the negative comments!!
They had a structured process to pick an new manager, so they picked rooney :P LOL
Simon Jordan just knows what is best for all, doesn't he? He is always right, never misplaced a pin
In football the ONLY metric is results.
I once worked for a company based on the south coast, they are wired differently, you could say clueless.
Rooney should go and become an assistant to some successful manager for couple of years. But ego will not allow it i guess...
Ego, if he had an ego he wouldn't even consider managing Plymouth in the first place. He's doing the right thing, I thing it'll be a good move for both parties.
Sacked by Christmas
He lost me at "Intelligent and articulate....."

must be a good red light district in Plymouth
This is probably a terrible mistake by plymouth

I’d agree if the ground could fit more but we’ve been a sell out for the last two seasons.
Publicity stunt to put Argyle on the soccer map. I'm a fan too.
Well he sent Birmingham on there way and I’m sure he will send Plymouth as well
worst manager i have seen at birmingham in 60 yrs .... thats saying something as we had 6 just last season
Do you think it was because of the pressure of replicating what the previous manager to Rooney had done?
@@r4h4al no .......he played most players in the wrong positions . he simply did not now the players we had. he started off playing 10 in attack then finished playing 10 in defence in his last games. did not have a clue
@@royhayward5828 Fair enough. Doesn't look good then does it?
But he can't be worse than our previous manager Ian Foster he was probably the worst ever manager we had at Argyle.
@@royhayward5828Birmingham are just a poor club no matter who's in charge. Have been forever.
I wish Wayne Rooney the best of luck, as Simon Jordan should if he had any grace. And I'm not a Plymouth or a Man Utd fan. Based on Jordan's sterile logic, I wouldn't let him anywhere near football club ownership ever again.
Good luck to Wazza 👍👍👍👍
Didn’t he call them and ask for the job?. The media doesn’t portray Rooney in any way , his record and off field antics speak for themselves.
Absurd. He took a Birmingham side looking like they had a resonable chance of a play off chance under Eustace into a relegation battle.
Good luck Plymouth
Argyle will be in the bottom half, more likely relegation zone, by Christmas and Rooney will be out on his ear. All anyone needs to do is look at Birmingham City this past season.
Of course they'll be in the bottom half, they have a poor squad and no money. They aren't expecting miracles. Are you new to the football world or just life in general? 🤡
Jordan simply hates anything related to united
Rooney is taking the Auld Slapper down there as physio.
Getting auld that , c'mon. She was 43 😮

Rooney was put under very difficult circumstances at every club he's been under.
Exactly this is the first club he's managed where he hasn't been put under very difficult circumstances could be the first club where he does well.
Stakeholder engagement is a big deal. Probably alot bigger deal than tactics.
