This is remarkable video footage, courtesy of ABC-TV Sports, back when Wide World of Sports would televise select NASCAR races the following Saturdays at 5 PM local time. There was little in the way of news reporting of the races prior to the Saturday telecast; as it was newspapers, TV, or radio; where the Indy 500 would have media reports of the winners; but seldom would report on other races. Magazines back then would have detailed articles of the races around two months after-the-fact. So, seeing these races six days later still had some elements of suspense to them as if they were televised live.
I do hate the canned SFX though... Almost no sounds you hear in these old race reports are real (taken during the filming), it's all SFX, they're just looped recordings of cars driving by, skids, metal banging and such
Holy cow what a race. Drivers pushing the last couple laps on bare wheels, cars rolling over and bursting into flames. One car hit the wall and spun out and they didn’t even wave the caution flag. These old races certainly need to be watched more than a couple times.
The only "offensive imagery" in this video is NASCAR remembering us that they used to race real cars, used to be respected by media outlets, mechanical components used to be pushed to the edge (that's why the races are 500 miles, not to have a big TV slot!) and normal people used to be able to climb the racing ladder HISTORICAL RESULTS Larry Frank won after 4 hours and 14 minutes of racing by around 5 seconds over Junior Johnson with Marvin Panch and David Pearson on the lead lap. It was the hardest-fought Southern 500 up until then with only a couple of editions before finishing with TWO cars on the lead lap. Having 4 cars on the lead lap until the end wouldn't be equaled until 1976 and wouldn't get surpassed until 1980!
"may contain imagery that is offensive and doesn't align with NASCAR's values" *The above statement shows the problem with the rise of fascism from The Left these days:* *1.) What is "offensive" is entirely subjective in real life. I'm much more "offended" when 'people of color' are treated differently and inserted into stories where it makes no sense as part of an assault on European and White culture and cultural values.* *2.) "NASCAR's values"... YOU ARE A COMPANY! Your "values" should be treating your employees and your customers well, and absolutely nothing else. No one should care, or even know about, what the executives of NASCAR personally feel about anything not strictly related to racing.*

1. Chris Economaki the GOAT.
2. 12:52 #19, Herman Beam just out there really enjoying himself, 90mph 😂, the cars just passin him by lol
Adjusted for inflation, that $20K for winner Larry Frank would equal $200K in 2023.
Jesus Christ!
