I don't think so. For a good outdoor tv antenna, each stick should not be lesser than 1 meter. That is my personal experience. Even the Baron Antenna has 4 sticks. Two on each side. Each with length of 1 meter and in a horizontal position. But you can try for purposes of experiment. If the result is good please share it to us.
What is required is 50 ohm cables for outdoor wifi antenna but for purposes of making it economical I used the old TV antenna cable which is 75 ohms and it is still working effectively not to count the fact that it is dual purpose. You can still use the TV Antenna for your TV if the need arises.
You are correct. You can use 50 ohm extension cable for wifi antenna if you want but you need another adapter/connector (SMA MALE JACK) to connect to the tv antenna. I use the old tv cable antenna to minimize expenses and it still works.

It has been recognized already by RF engineers that the trees that blocks your outdoor antenna and the water accumulated in the leaves of the trees during rainy days weaken your wifi signal. Hence an antenna higher than those barriers would be of great help. But if you have a good budget then you can buy a parabolic or hyperbolic outdoor wifi antenna which is really designed for wifi connection. Although that is more expensive.
