Did they? I thought the nigh on £trillion debt that we are paying interest on was created under the previous tory government!!
I remember my mortgage going up on a regular basis during those fourteen years of austerity, along with my bills for food, heating and general living expenses.
You obviously lived in a cacoon during those fourteen years and have just come out in the last seven months!!

The economy will crash very soon. Already the IMF is going to take over.

In my 77 years on this planet I have always been worse off under a Liebour government as a working man. Nothing has changed as a pensioner. My only consolation is all the dumb people who voted Liebour are also going to be worse off. One thing I am sure of is Liebour will be in the political wilderness for at least 20 years after the next election.

So you don't think that fourteen years of sleaze, corruption and austerity under the Tories brought the country to its knees then?
A trillion pounds in debt, record soup kitchens and food banks, the NHS near breaking point, the prison service on its knees, the lowest level of army personnel since the days of the Napolianic wars, the police force so understaffed they were forced to grade crimes in order to investigate the more serious ones!!
I could go on and on and on about the absolute mess this government is trying to clear up, but what's the point?
You believe all the right wing media BS that is coming out and follow like sheep.

I saw this one coming as soon as the election was announced, and Labour was predicted to win. I immediately renewed my fixed rate mortgage deal, knowing that things would only get worse under Labour. They think you can tax an economy into growth.
Labour always try to increase overall tax revenues by taxing an existing economy more which stunts any growth then eventually shrinks the economy and actually brings in less overall tax revenues. The opposite of their actual starting aim.
An economy doesn't work like that.
You get more overall tax revenues by actually lowering taxes which encourages more economic growth. You then tax that economic growth that happens.
A business which pays lower tax rates than before is likely to use that extra money to expand operations, hire more workers, invest in product development etc which grows the overall economy leading to those higher overall tax revenues in the long term.
With Labour putting up taxes on everything, that is passed onto the consumer in price rises (inflation). To combat that increased inflation the BOE will soon start putting up interest rates.
Then we will be in real trouble. Recession is coming.

When Darren Jones speaks you have to look at his lack of economic credentials and whether the markets taking any notice of what he saying, they don’t seem to be. Arguing about who might have crashed the economy is a bit immaterial now as the market are slowly moving into a negative mode when it comes to the UK ecomonic outlook.

The problem UK doesn't have much leg room. Their borrowing is crazy high and on top of that their spending is also more then their budget. If they borrow more they crash the economy, increasing taxes cripples growth and does way more harm them growth. Then 1 option is to reduce spending its going to effect the voter base of tory and Labour. It will effect the welfare program specifically ppl on benefit. Both parties are scared to bring a change in that. Very tight situation no matter tories or Labour
