    This was a great design. Competition in no time. Bought all at Lowe’s. Only modification; used coated wire; made a loop on the end of the wire after feed it if it thru the closeline stop to pull on and to ensure the wire does not pull thru.

      Was clothesline hanger (7:50) available at Lowes also? I haven't been able to find this online so far.

    Good Job!!! Inexpensive, effective, and quick to make. BTW, the device to grip and hold the cable is a Blue Hawk Clothesline Tightener, ~$8 at Blue Big Box

    That's a cool design, I would like to incorporate something like that into a walking stick, or hiking pole. I was thinking of a crescent moon shape shepherds crook only inverted for pinning sheep to the ground. A shepherds crook works great for catching, but it would be nice to have a crook for pinning.

    Hey theres a problem with your carchpole design. Though the pushbutton end is pretty slick for certain applications. When catching an animal with it if the pull hard enough to tighten the cable too far and then break free from your hands they could run off and strangle themselves to death if you cant catch up to them in time. I had that problem with my first design.

    • @TheMidwestOutdoorsman
      @TheMidwestOutdoorsman  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Can you tell me what diameter the clothesline tightener you used is? I can find 'em in 1/4” diameter and 1” diameter. Thinkin’ the 1” will work for 3/4” pvc. I am plannin’ on makin this- excellent vid!

    • @TheMidwestOutdoorsman
      @TheMidwestOutdoorsman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not 100% sure what size it is. Yes, it will work with 3/4 inch PVC pipe. The nice thing about the clothesline tensioner is that it tapers so it will give you a snug fit into many sizes of pipe. Thank you for watching!

    • @firemedic10353
      @firemedic10353 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheMidwestOutdoorsman Update: the 1” tensioner worked but i had to use the Dremel tool and sand the inside of the 3/4” PVC down a bit. Once I got the Tapered end of the tensioner to go inside the pipe to about the third level on the taper, few gentle taps with a rubber mallet helped it seat then used a little duct tape to hold for added measure. Made a 4’ and a 6’ version. I used 3/16’ wrapped cable on mine. They work smooth as glass. Can’t wait to get em on the trapline this season!

    How did you attach the clothes line tightened and what size pvc. I’m trying 3/4 but can’t secure tightener

    • @TheMidwestOutdoorsman
      @TheMidwestOutdoorsman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas, best I remember I just shoved that tightener into the PVC as far as I could. I could never get it to stay either when not in use. When you have tension on the catch end of the pole it holds it in place with the pressure from the animal. I never had any troubles with it by using it that way. I do believe I used 3/4” but possibly 1” PVC. I apologize, I can’t remember off the top of my head. If 3/4” does not work you may try a piece of 1” and see if that allows it to sit better. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching!

    Why is it called a catch pole when you don't catch anything with it?? Building one is easy. Using one properly is seldom seen on TH-cam but doing so eliminates the need to further hurt a critter by stepping on the trap to release it!!!

      @twc6771 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @jackriley5974

      You forced me to review this video again, and I've found a lot to talk about. The purpose of catch pole is to help in releasing the animal from a trap. I trapped for 30 years and never used one. In more civilized areas of America you are required to dispatch a trapped animal in the trap, and it's illegal to transport a live one. I have no idea why this "trapper" is transporting this coyote. (They do the same in North Carolina, and probably other redneck states)The smart way to use a catch pole is to stand on it to restrain the animal while using BOTH HANDS to release it. That takes a little practice and concern for all living things! If a trap is too big for you to release it by hand you shouldn't be using it, or maybe you should take up knitting?? @@twc6771
