Always a treat to hear Jacob talk, as well as play. Appreciated the interviewer asking good questions then getting out the way to let the magic happen!
What a treat to hear how he approaches melody and harmony as balance and the emotional expression. The simplicity sprinkled with complexity as a musical journey and how the story of a song gets expressed.
I am so excited to hear Jacob say he's grown in appreciation of triads and simplicity. This guy is a genius, and as he continues to grow, his ability to connect directly with his audience will only increase. The singing with and recording and layering the crowd is brilliant.
Love the talk about polarity in life, nature. Light doesnt exist without darkness and vice versa. One spectrum. Darkness and negative are just words used to communicate and not meant as good or bad.
When Jacob talks about stacking Plagal Cadence on top of each other @ 7:16, what he plays I think sounds very similar to Vince Guaraldi Trio's Charlie Brown Christmas...specifically What Child Is This and/or George Winston's Peppermint Patty
Jacob plays quantum music. Mirror-symmetric forces bind interacting particles together in a dance that gets stronger the more you try to pull them apart. Jacob's harmonies create a home for all notes.
So thoroughly enjoyed this two-part interview. Jacob Collier is such a pleasant and intelligent person - who is able to convey complex ideas and theories with such great ease. But also, Bruce Headlam did an excellent job of leading the conversation - what a wonderful host - pleasant and intelligent as well. Subscribed!
Great episode. Love Jacob Collier and his work. Huge fan. Very inspiring individual. His vibes are so chill, everything about him is awesome lol. I would love to have seen some diagrams or visuals of sorts while he was showing the chord movements and talking music theory. He was talking about how things move in certain directions, and he was physically referring to the piano from the sounds of it so I'm sure if there was video it would have been a bit easier to follow, but there could even just be some images to show the same concepts that he's showing in person. Especially when he's talking about music theory and trying to explain the "symmetry" of the chords.. I've followed him for a few years now so I've seen and heard him talk about that idea before so I get it by now but I do believe there could be visual aids, for sure, to help us follow along for us youtube watchers and visual people hehe. The concepts he are describing are quite complex even to the experienced musician so I can only imagine if you're hearing this stuff for the first time. But seriously - great episode. Such an awesome guest choice.
Hah, I'm now realizing the irony in asking for visuals on a podcast based around music/audio lol.. You can still HEAR what he's talking about and understand the points he's making since he is very good at explaining these concepts, but I was just thinking that seeing it visually would be an extra "cool" factor
That Britten chord he's talking about 19:15 in New Year Carol - where is that? I only hear a II minor over a tonic pedal on the place in question on the recordings I could find - which is much less dissonant than the chord Jacob talks about. Is there a different version perhaps?

Unbelievable content. He's more connected to music than anyone in the universe right now.

Such a wonderfully lucid speaker. Admire that quality so much.

Jacob can go on forever.
i love the way they call it music theory, when in jacob's case it is more like music abstraction

He’s such a natural talent. Refreshing take on music.
Maravillosa entrevista. La parte 1 pude seguirla bien, pero la segunda voy a tener que re-escucharla muchas veces. Realmente una clase magistral.
