    Poor weight distribution in that hopper. The fill starts and finishes too early, means heavier axle-load on the leading truck. Uneven wear causes accidents, derailments and delays.

    • @smokey222mktn
      @smokey222mktn  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      nlo114 every car was preset on load amount by RFID tags and ns computers. Some would fill all the way and almost spill over. On a 100 ton car I doubt the 5 ton offset up the ramp would be enough to be unevenly loaded. Now if it stopped 2/3 of the way through the car, I would have to agree. Been to many plants and all load the same way.

    • @nlo114
      @nlo114 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm slightly surprised about that. I suppose it's all about the relative density of the material. UK bulk transport is in smaller net weights, so axle-loading by weight distribution is more critical. When you read the detailed accident investigation reports involving freight carriage, they go through every aspect of the loading and distribution of the cargo, sometimes finding compounded errors that led to a failure of a part and subsequent wreck.

      It makes for interesting reading when there is no beer in the fridge:-)

    Why are the cars not filled?

    • @smokey222mktn
      @smokey222mktn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We used a program called batch master. It would tell us allowable weight to load at. It used rfid tags on the cars to give us specs. The hump on top would settle down during transport and fill a lot of the side voids.

  • @RRYankfan
    @RRYankfan 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    why is only 3/4 of the car loaded?

    • @strobx1
      @strobx1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Weight. Anymore would overload the car.They hold 240,000 pounds of coal or 120 tons.There are 130 cars in a coal train total weight is 15,600 or 1,560.000 pounds.The train is loaded on the fly(in motion). It takes 4 4400HP diesel locomotives to pull that train. Frequently there are one or two helper locomotives on the rear. The cars are aluminum.

  • @BeeRich33

    Why did it end early?

    • @smokey222mktn
      @smokey222mktn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It didn’t. Those cars have RFID tags on them. When the train pulls in it it registers and then tells you what each car is calling for. Once they hit target weight they are done.

  • @wyatt1890
    @wyatt1890 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is the capacity of the belt that dictates how fast you can load. He said 3000 TPH was the capacity of his belt so there for he can only load 3000 TPH. My guess is he has a 60" belt that runs about 500 FPM. I have a 72" belt that runs 900 FPM and can load at 7000 TPH. I load at 0,7 MPH.

    • @smokey222mktn
      @smokey222mktn  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maloy7800 actually met grade coal. low sulfur and lie ash. may be lifting and fact that it was cold out but coarse coal went through a crusher to size for power plant. they would blend this coal with other mines so their coal would meet quality specs.

    • @whiteknightcat
      @whiteknightcat 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a new one one me - didn't know some plants needed the coal pre-processed. A plant associated with a utility I used to work for just took the straight coal and pulverized it on side with ball mills as it made its way to the boiler. Of course, this might have been left over from when a nearby lignite mine used to conveyor its coal to the plant, before they switched to Powder River coal.

      No one wants coal, power utilities don't want it, steel industry only needs a very small amount and the rest of the world is moving away from coal. Go ahead, let Trump open up every closed mine in the US and mine the shit out of everything you have, and see who buy's it. You've been deluded, hoodwinked, bamboozled, lied to and run amuck. Maybe some day when you look back and say to yourself, "hey, that bastard lied to us", then, maybe, you'll wake up.

      That would be the Navajo Generating Station, a huge 2.25 GW power plant set to shut down in 2019. The slurry operation from the Black Mesa mine to the plant pretty much killed the aquifer everyone depended on. Now the aquifer might recover, but then locals will be unemployed. Caught between Scylla and Charybdis.

Please, please say something truly stupid like global warming is causing record freezing temps.
