Alison, I haven't been to Ilfracombe for many years. it is sad to see it so quiet. Back in the day it would be full of Grockles (Holiday makers). Shopping, eating and generally having a good time. The George and Dragon pup was always full some rain or shine. Ilfracombe used to be the destination of thousands of people from the midlands and there would always be lots of banter in the many pubs, restaurants and cafes along the harbour front. We would sail across from Swansea for weekends and longer trips through the summer. The pier was much bigger then( it was greatly damaged during a storm and was reduced in size for safety. The statue is new. I have made many a phone call from the RED phone box to let the Coastguard know we had arrived from Oxwich/Swansea. The theatre is on the grounds of the old Ilfracombe Hotel which had an indoor salt water swimming pool. I went there back in the 1970's. It was a pleasure seeing the place and we will probably go for a campervan trip there in the not to distant future. Thank you for allowing us to see it through your eyes. Regards to Derek.
