I think Boras has lost his edge. He’s convincing guys like Bregman that he can get them a huge contract, so the pass up solid offers through overconfidence. That said, Breggy will probably be happy in Detroit while the Astros will probably be happy with Walker and Paredes.
very well done, young man. Your analysis is very complete, and I appreciate how you place the lineups on the board, present and future, and the way you bruoght in future prospects for each team. On the substance of Bregman, as a very old and diehard Met fan, let me add that losing Seaver and Doc and Darryl still hurts, so making Pete, warts and all, a Met for life is something we should be doing. In addition, Bregman has been declining, and Bill James has taught us that these declines are real and expected. I would not mind seeing Areando as a Met, Vientos as primarily a DH. Make us too, but much better fit than Bregman Well done
As a tigers fan, I’m at my wits end with Torkelson. I know other Tiger fans don’t feel the same way and I understand that. But the tigers need players who can produce. Bregman would play 3rd if he signs with Detroit. Jace Jung would likely move to his natural position at 2nd. And Keith could go to 1st in that situation. In fact, Keith and JHM have been instructed to take grounders at 1st to increase versatility. Edit: the tigers have added Gleyber Torres. So Keith will indeed move to 1st in 2025.
i'm old enough to remember Tony Clark bogging down the lineup for a decade with his slow starts, usually getting meaningless HRs in august and september.. i'm starting to feel the same thing with Torkelson.
Exactly. Besides who wants poor defense out there in that right field in Fenway. Teoscar or Santander make no sense at all unless you don't care about your defense. You'd be creating a problem out there. I am not trading a gold glove right fielder away and have that go down to sign Teoscar or Santander. If I trade Wilyer sure I trade him for a pitcher and bring up Roman Anthony who is by far a better outfielder than Teoscar or Santander.
Okay Jim. Gleyber Torres has signed a 15 million dollar deal with the Tigers. Still think Bregman is going to Detroit??? I doubt it. I knew the Tigers were not paying for Bregman.
Very Well Said Jim. I Have To Disagree With Bregman He ais A Great Fit Because Of His Defence The Red Sox Had The Worst IF Defence The Last 2 Years. Plus He Is A Championship Caliber Player. Hernandez Is My Second Option
as a Met fan I dont want him over Pete...however him AND Pete and letting Pete and Vientos share/rotate between 1st base and DH, now that would be creative (in other words let Alosno get 100 games at 1st/62 games at DH and Vientos 100 games at DH/62 at 1st base)
Mets are making themselves available as a soft landing spot if the long term deals aren’t there. They would likely offer a deal with player options. As far as Pete, Boras is being stubborn because the Mets deal isn’t going up.
that lineup isnt anywhere near what it would be if we sign pete. end of the day i do think we just get pete alone and the lineup is lindor soto vientos pete nimmo marte alvy siri acuna however if they get bregman and pete which is the less likely situation u have lindor soto bregman pete vientos nimmo alvy siri acuna then we go get vladdy and theres a bunch of options bregman 2b vientos 3b pete dh vladdy 1b or move bregman to 2b vientos 3b and having vladdy an pete alt 1b and dh. its crazy but theres a chance theyre able to get pete breggy and vladdy.
Jim you keep talking about Meyer who might come up late in 2025 and keep missing Kristian Campbell who's the Sox #3 Prospect (who plays 2B) and the Minor League Player of the Year who would likely make the team out of training camp if they don't get Bregman. Campbell is the much more likely blockage than Meyer.
Tigers fan checking in; personally I don’t want bregman, but we probably aren’t going to sign him anyway as long as we still have Baez and his negative net equity contract performance issues…poverty franchises like my DET cannot afford relatively nice assets, even if Canadians frequent our weekend games and have broadcast contract agreements; Bregman gives you 2.5 peak years but if we don’t go back to the World Series with him on defense, then what does it all mean?
Alonso is a premier power hitter. But that’s about it. Bregman can give you 4-6 WAR every year, hit for contact and power (although not to level Pete can), and play gold glove level defense. He’s a complete player. I agree.
There’s been talk of Mets signing both Bregman and Alonso. Both can easily fit on the team along with fitting within the budget. Signing 1 or both, they need to trade McNeil and or Marte either way. Pay down there salaries to make a trade happen. McNeil is the better player bc of the versatility and past offensive numbers but his on field attitude is played out in queens. Would love to send one these guys with a prospect and a bunch of money to Seattle for Castillo
I feel like MLB's over focus on power hitting at the cost of batting average has lead the league to start having a lot of aging home run hitters and teams are struggling to find places to put them. Only 2 spots, DH and 1B, so 1B men are kind of in over supply
I’d trade Tork, Jace Jung to 2B and Keith to 1B. Tork has been sent down twice in 3 years and has not improved at all. Seeing him play everyday I think it’s time we move on
Minor point neither Hernandez nor Santander would play in right field at Fenway however your point is correct they would play in left and Duran would likely play in right field at Fenway ⚾
What's the why and what on bregman mets? I'll never understand the alonso contract. They 100% want vlad, no need to trade for him with the contract thing going on he'll definitely become a free agent. Get bregman now you have good defensive 3rd move vientos to 1st, swap mcneil and acuna on 2nd, acuna against left hand pitchers mcneil against right. Marte is in his last year you can dh him or soto sometimes this year. Then next year vientos dh. No need to waste money on alonso you can't keep vientos on 3rd he's not good there at least not yet. Both alonso and bregman are the same age but I think bregman is cheaper, you'll have more money to sign vlad next year. On the coming years once you trade siri or let him go you can make nimmo your cf and move acuna or vientos on lf, your choice on who you want as a 2nd (preferably acuna). Then you can sign another power bat as a dh for a cheap 1 or 2 year just have to find one or batty if you didn't trade him. I don't like batty defensively he's shaky his bat is weak. This year Lind SS Soto RF Vien 1B Nim LF Breg 3B (if you sign him) Mcnl/Acu 2B Mart DH Alva C Siri CF Batty he can be on the bench do what you want with him. Just like I said he's a weak bat and shaky defender. Next year Lind SS Soto RF Vlad 1B Nim LF Vien DH Breg 3B Mcnl/Acu 2B Alva C Siri CF
Interesting that Bregman has never been the same player offensively, since the cheating scandal came out. I'm actually suprised that he thinks he's gonna get 200 million. I mean, he just had the worst OPS of his career...knowing he was going to hit free agency in a contract year. He had surgery on his throwing arm, and he's on the back 9 of his career. He really expects 8 years and 200 million? Maybe the Jay's are desperate enough...but giving him what he's looking for, would be a massive overpay.
No one is taking Yoshida and that money. We've tried for the last couple offseasons. It maybe Marcelo Mayer at 3rd next year and Kristian Campbell and 2nd so still don't need Bregman here blocking prospects.
Bregman probably shoulda just stayed put. All these players signing long-term contracts at the age of 30...they got their money, but they're going to despised by their fanbase for the last half of their career (maybe sooner), when they don't live up to the contract. Guys like Baez, Story, Stanton, Rendon...the fans can't wait for them to be gone, because they're weighing the team's payroll down, not allowing them to make winning moves.
its not going to make any difference to any team that gets old man bregman. hes not the player people think he is. what players did several years ago is utterly irrelevant now
Mets fan agree with the entire take but WTH with moving Vientos to 8 hole hitter lol, you’re like you get Pete & Vlad, and I’m like that’s cool, but Vientos not in the top 6 is insulting and that’s what I focus on ha! All Bergman news being pushed from one side only, so it’s Pete one way or another, just a matter of how the contract lines up.
Bregman isn't going to the NYM, Boras is using them for leverage to get more out of Detroit. it's already been reported by our insider Evan Petzold that Boras and Harris are in talks to get a deal done soon.
Honest question to Mets fans. Soto addition is great, great run last year but your pitching on paper will not stack up well in the playoffs. You can have all the offense you want how do you match ohtani, glasnow, snell, yamamoto with your current staff? I’m not a dodgers fan either.
@CFcosmic329 honestly I agree with you. The Mets have pitching and plenty of it but don't have a good enough rotation to go up against the Dodgers or even the braves. The Phillies do have a good rotation but didn't make it past the Mets last year. They will have to get creative is all I can think of. Maybe go 3 innings at a time or something like that
I wouldn't waste pieces trading for him when you'll have a shot at him next year. Whoever he is with at the end of this year he's going into free agency so why waste losing prospects. 🤷🏻♂️
the tigers move would be simple. trade tork. he can't hit a fastball... Keith to first (he's not great defensively at 2nd) Jung back to his natural 2nd base spot and bregman at 3rd... but no way in hell Chris illitch pays the money. most of us are afraid he's going to let Skubal, Greene and Carpenter all walk for nothing
Dude, Redsox can slot him at 2b. Mayer, Campbell and Grissom can season or 1 play UT. Hamilton is gone soon along with Gonzales and Yoshida and Sogard. Bregman will shift to 3b when Devers moves to DH. Story I gone soon. Casas is going NOWHERE! He's our 1b. We need no Outfielders like Hernandez or Santander or Gruchic, need no Outfielders with Anthony, Abreu, Rafaela, Duran, Garcia, Bleis. Absolutely 💯 dumb to sign any Outfielders with our farm...also got Refsnyder no...
Thanxs bro I'm sick of all the Red Sox youngster fans crying for Bregmen when we have so many possibilities for the middle infield it is SOOOO STUPID and CRYBABY TIRED
Glad to hear this reasoning on Bregman. Could the To tigers also look at Santader? If they want right handed outfielder. But why add to a logjam in the outfeild. Bregman at 3rd supplies this kind of clout.
Plus all you hear about is the Dodgers farm system and development but they pick up free agents for every spot. If their rookies are so good why dont they keep them? Because its all hype to make that team better than they are. MLB is propping up the west coast teams but they are all meh. It took one of the worst years in baseball this year for the Dodgers to win and they had to get 5 MVP's to do it. The Dodgers are all hype. When the Sox played them in the World Series in 18 they barely won one game.
I don’t think Bregman fits Comerica park at all. He needs atleast a neutral park to be a productive bat. It’s hard to find a good fit though….. maybe Toronto? Not many teams need a 3rd base, have money to spend and a good ballpark for Bregman. I don’t see any clear fits
If the Red Sox acquire Alex Bregman, it should be to play 3B, with Devers moving to DH. Kristian Campbell will be competing with Grissom for the 2B job. It will only be Hamilton if both bomb spring training. Roman Anthony could be the opening day LF, with Duran in CF, Abreu in RF, and Rafaela on the bench as a "10th man"... Yoshida traded or used as a platoon bat of some sort. Replacing Abreu with Santander or Hernandez would be a huge defensive downgrade. Adding Bregman replaces Yoshida's bat with Bregman's and upgrades 3B defense by a LOT. Bregman is a Gold Glove caliber 3B, and Devers is the worst defensive 3B in the league.
So Jim. You want to put Teoscar or Santander in right field? No thank you. I like good defense out there. And what about Roman Anthony? You want to block him???? Nope !
As a tigers fan, I agree with this assessment. Bregman does fit the team but not the ballpark. He could hit a lot of doubles in Comerica but he won’t hit the number of homers that he did in Houston. Even tho the fences have been moved in, it’s still not exactly a hitters park like Fenway is.
Gleyber to the Tigers on Friday morning…feels like the Tigers are moving away from an overpriced Bregman.
Of course not. Tigers are not ready financially speaking to make that kind of commitment for Bregman. They never were.
Yankees maybe still in the mix Red Sox maybe idk now
As a Red Sox fan I want nothing to do with Alex Bregman!
I think Boras has lost his edge. He’s convincing guys like Bregman that he can get them a huge contract, so the pass up solid offers through overconfidence. That said, Breggy will probably be happy in Detroit while the Astros will probably be happy with Walker and Paredes.
theres nothing special about boras or anyone like that
Boras just made like 40 million off Soto. He's doing fine.
@leam89 Being Juan Soto”s agent in 2024 is like being Michael Jordan’s agent in 1991. I could have gotten Juan Soto a $700m contract.
very well done, young man. Your analysis is very complete, and I appreciate how you place the lineups on the board, present and future, and the way you bruoght in future prospects
for each team.

I want him on the Nationals! We make just as much sense as the Tigers. We were involved in early rumors and we can come right back into them any time.
Boras is crazy for turning down 156 mil from the Astros.
Okay Jim. Gleyber Torres has signed a 15 million dollar deal with the Tigers. Still think Bregman is going to Detroit??? I doubt it. I knew the Tigers were not paying for Bregman.
I don't think the Tigers will ante up the necessary money to sign Bregman.

they have 3 guys ready to come up. it will be interesting to see how they integrate Marcelo Mayer INF, Roman Anthony OF and Kristian Campbell INF/OF
as a Met fan I dont want him over Pete...however him AND Pete and letting Pete and Vientos share/rotate between 1st base and DH, now that would be creative (in other words let Alosno get 100 games at 1st/62 games at DH and Vientos 100 games at DH/62 at 1st base)

No Boston Red Sox for Alex Bregman
Great breakdown!
As a Sox fan if we don’t get teoscar im fine w Bregman. Move devers to dh or bregman play 2nd till Campbell moves up.
that lineup isnt anywhere near what it would be if we sign pete. end of the day i do think we just get pete alone and the lineup is

Yes but Campbell can also play SS 3b and the outfield
Exactly. Kristian Campbell is likely the 2025 2nd baseman right out of the gate. More promising than Mayer.

Definitely not. He would get zero return.

We’ve been telling you Bregman is a Red Stocking. Shoot, he could be a Blue Jay.
Reason? Logic? A better way forward!?
HE'S A WITCH! 🔱🔥

Devers is a DH waiting to happen.
Bringing Pete back puts you on the back burner for Vlad. Shouldn’t pay Pete that kind of money to be a DH. He’s not that much of an impact bat imo.
I want the Mets to trade both Mcneil and Marte to make room for the younger guys.
Bregman is the only fit position wise! That would work
Bregman probably shoulda just stayed put. All these players signing long-term contracts at the age of 30...they got their money, but they're going to despised by their fanbase for the last half of their career (maybe sooner), when they don't live up to the contract. Marcello mayer will be such a god. Bought so many of his rookie cards
some team will overpay for him.
What's going on with this slow baseball free agent market. Let's go!
Its because i watch Jbanksey
Bregman DH for the Mets after they trade Marte
its not going to make any difference to any team that gets old man bregman. hes not the player people think he is. what players did several years ago is utterly irrelevant now
Who do you root for Jim?
Makes sense
Mets fan agree with the entire take but WTH with moving Vientos to 8 hole hitter lol, you’re like you get Pete & Vlad, and I’m like that’s cool, but Vientos not in the top 6 is insulting and that’s what I focus on ha! All Bergman news being pushed from one side only, so it’s Pete one way or another, just a matter of how the contract lines up.
Because Pete Alonso wants just as much and arguably is better
Makes a lot of sense, what you laid out for the Sox. I’d sign Teo and move Duran to RF so Teo could have the easier field too. Great vlog. 👍🏾
Mets are the best leverage for Boras. Bregman is not coming to NYM. Stearns wants young players playing.
Bregman isn't going to the NYM, Boras is using them for leverage to get more out of Detroit. it's already been reported by our insider Evan Petzold that Boras and Harris are in talks to get a deal done soon.
As a Mets fan i do not want Bregman. Just trade for Vladimir Guerrero Jr
Why trade for him wasting prospects when you can wait till next year and sign him?
Honest question to Mets fans. Soto addition is great, great run last year but your pitching on paper will not stack up well in the playoffs. You can have all the offense you want how do you match ohtani, glasnow, snell, yamamoto with your current staff? I’m not a dodgers fan either.
@@petercoyne7676 I'm not worry about next year or these Mets overrated prospects.
@CFcosmic329 honestly I agree with you. The Mets have pitching and plenty of it but don't have a good enough rotation to go up against the Dodgers or even the braves. Breggy to DBacks?
Trey Sweeney wasn't as good as some the Dodgers other prospects. How is he good enough to be the starting shortstop of the Detroit Tigers?
the tigers move would be simple. trade tork. he can't hit a fastball... Keith to first (he's not great defensively at 2nd) Jung back to his natural 2nd base spot and bregman at 3rd... but no way in hell Chris illitch pays the money. most of us are afraid he's going to let Skubal, Greene and Carpenter all walk for nothing
Torkelson plus Manning for Castillo. Not enough?
@fattytaft6779 I'd do it... don't think the tigers would... but both guys need a change of scenery.
Bregman ain’t worth the money and has regressed

Trade casas for Pablo López the twins
The Twins are NOT trading Lopez for Casas.
Bregman's options are running out. The guy is from New Mexico, but options in that region are limited.
I still see the Phillies trading Bohm and getting Bregman, would be a major upgrade for them.
Yankees 1 WS in 24yrs
Dodgers 1WS in 36yrs

Bregman is trash
Mets please sign Burnes on a short term deal and Alonso then sign Tanner Scott and Yates for the pen. This pugs four huge holes
Burnes wants a long term deal
If his market does pan out by Sasaki signing he might do a 3 year deal with op outs like Snell did with the Giants.
I swear this guy always has something against the Red Sox 😭
What do you expect from a Toronto fan?
He did have Teoscar signing with the Sawks.
Blue Jays fan. Sooooo can't really hold not against him. But he can admit when they won a deal.
Cope

So Jim. You want to put Teoscar or Santander in right field? No thank you. I like good defense out there. And what about Roman Anthony? You want to block him???? Nope !

The Astros would be a good fit....oh wait, no....not anymore. 😄
