- Here's a short video on how to install and use the Sears Kenmore 6739 (and maybe also the 6736 model) buttonhole attachment. This attachment works on low shank feet. I verified through the Sears Kenmore catalogs that the 6739 is a left homing needle position. The 6736 is for center homing machines. So here's a little breakdown:
#6736 center homing
#6737 left homing
#6738 center homing
#6739 left homing
I am using it on a Sears Kenmore 158.10200 which only does straight and zigzag stitches, and is a left homing sewing machine.
Some notes on operation:
1) Stitch width control should be set to between 1 and 2.
2) Pressure regulator should be set to maximum.
3) Drop feed dogs.
4) If machine has a special stitch selector, it should be set for zigzag stitching.
Can this be used on the 1040 Kenmore too?
I'm pretty sure the 1040 is also a left homing needle, so you should be able to use the same buttonhole attachment.
@seffssweetsstitches2897 Thanks. I don't have that attachment but I've been thinking about getting one. I've seen them for sale.
I just bought a 158.14301 a few weeks ago, and I ordered this same button hole attachment and by coincidence my buttonhole attachment just arrived yesterday, but wouldn’t you know it, it doesn’t work because my zig zag bar that’s between the knob and the needle only moves when I manipulate it with my hand but not with my hand cranking, nor by using the foot peddle.
I oiled, tri-flowed, and now, today I’m spraying it with Blaster, wish me luck lol
Also, at the needle, when I push my needle post over to the right, it doesn’t spring back to the left (with it set at 4 width) like in other videos.
Well, I’ll have to see. It’s kinda early in the process.
But what a coincidence you just posted this lol
@antoniokinsey4041 Darn...I wonder if it would work on a Kenmore 158-1345? I have that one too. It's called Ultra 8 Stitch.
@@sewndebisdream6953 if it's a low shank foot and left homing needle, it'll work.
